To be fair, we criticized him for those statements at the time that he made them too. They were objectively dumb ****ing statements or outright lies, even then.

Really? I didn't hear that, but may have missed it.

What I have heard is him pushing back against criticism of the federal response, that is, of the team. Just standing up for his guys.

I'm having trouble believing that. The flu kills 20-50,000 people every year in the US. But in Italy, it has already killed 10,000, and Italy is a much smaller country, and much fewer of them have been infected than the flu. Covid also appears to be a lot more contageous than the flu with no vaccine or natural immunity, so it will kill more people by infecting more. Only a vaccine or efforts to slow its spread will reduce mortality.

    Mortality of what?

Do you mean the virus itself dies as quickly as does the influenza virus when expelled and lying on a countertop, or do you mean that the same percentage of people who contract influenza die as di people who contract Corona?

If you mean, the latter, it's 3.5% versus .1 percent. Corona is much deadlier than influenza.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sc...the-flu-but-they-have-one-big-thing-in-common

The flu in 1918 was even more deadly, I think, but most of those deaths were from secondary bacterial infections.

You're absolutely right. The US has 331M people.

Italy had it's first case on Jan 29 and today it's death rate is 178/M.

If the US had that death rate, we would have already have nearly 60,000 dead in 60 days? Yeah, I don't remember a flu season like that, ever. This NOT the flu.

We've all had the flu, we have vaccines for the flu.

Current estimates are that it's 20 times deadlier than the flu.

The Ro for the flu is 1.3 so 30 infected persons will infect 40.

The Ro for COVID is probably 2.5 so 16 infected persons will infect 40.

The safe money is that it's quite a bit deadlier and more infectious. It's also not a gentle killer, it slowly strangles it's victims.

I may have "paraphrased" a bit, BUT, the "gist" was there.

    Here was the context:

You have to put that in. It said in there, FEMA it says Army Corps of Engineers because when they disrespect me, they are disrespecting our government. You know what -- I don't mind if I am disrespected but they can't disrespect the Army Corps of Engineers and FEMA.

That's your evidence that he said: "If you Disrespect Me, you Disrespect Our Country"?

You seriously consider that to be a fair paraphrase of his defense of the Corps of Engineers?

    NO. You obviously MIS-Read it.

    I paraphrased THIS:

Actual: "when they disrespect me, they are disrespecting our government".

Paraphrase :"If you Disrespect Me, you Disrespect Our Country"

    ^I would say that is a FAIR.Paraphrase/Characterization.

Okay then, "our government" = "our country."

    In your view.

It was not aspirational. Anyone looking at the numbers - and I know you are - knew that it was not going to happen the moment he said it. It was ridiculous.

Setting unrealistic goals is not helpful. It is the opposite. Giving an honest assessment is much better.

Pretty defensible point of view considering the government has the only legal means to use physical force and that power is granted by the country as a whole.

And the opening post is Fake News. Trump repeatedly said he would consult first with his Health Care Experts before making a final decision. The claim that he "promised" an Easter Opening is yet another Fake News Lie.

And there have been a lot of them.

Why was early coronavirus coverage so lazy? The media’s insatiable thirst for political correctness:

President Trump’s order to halt all travel from China on January 31, for example, was met with hollers of xenophobia from the loudest corners of mainstream media. Those cries have since been memory-holed — quite literally, in some cases (Vox) — but it’s worth revisiting where the worst actors in media stood when this pandemic started. In fact, it was the very next day after Trump’s executive order that mainstream media outlets published stories downplaying the threat as merely another xenophobic reaction to foreigners, just like they’ve done with Trump’s position on immigration at the southern border.

The night that President Trump issued his order, Vox tweeted, ‘Is this going to be a deadly pandemic? No.’ That tweet was then deleted with a correction earlier this week. Lenny Bernstein at the Washington Post wrote on January 31, ‘Get a grippe [sic], America. The flu is a much bigger threat than Coronavirus, for now.’ The next day, the Washington Post published an op-ed titled, ‘Past epidemics prove fighting coronavirus with travel bans is a mistake.’ In what appeared to be a full court press against the president’s order, the paper published another piece on January 31, ‘How our brains make coronavirus seem scarier than it is.’ On February 3, they hit us with another op-ed headlined, ‘Why we should be wary of an aggressive government response to coronavirus’, arguing it would lead to more stigmatization of marginalized populations.

Small wonder The Pesidents high marks for handling this challenge are accompanied with negative remarks for The Fake News Media that was parroting Chinese Communist party propaganda as "news".

In other words you cherry picked and took the phrase out of context in order to shed a negative light on Trump. That's called SPIN. Among other things....

    Yes.

Because Trump takes everything so personally, and makes it all about him.

you never know with Trump, thankfully he has now backed off that one

    https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/miriamelder/coronavirus-trump-easter-covid-19-economy

"Trump stuck to his guns.”I think it’s possible — why isn’t it?” he asked, referring to the Easter deadline. He doubled down on his theory that the number of people who would die by suicide in a recession or depression would outnumber those who could die of the virus."
