Donald Trump admitted on Monday that making it easier to vote in America would hurt the Republican party.

The president made the comments as he dismissed a Democratic-led push for reforms such as vote-by-mail, same-day registration and early voting as states seek to safely run elections amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Democrats had proposed the measures as part of the coronavirus stimulus. They ultimately were not included in the $2.2tn final package, which included only $400m to states to help them run elections.

“The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

Well, to quote that ancient bard Billie Eilish, Duh...

Trump certainly knows what he's up against here. The voting American public.

However, while I'm obviously for any legal means to grant all eligible voters multiple capabilities of voting, the CoronaVirus Bill was not the place to make that happen.

But that's sort of beside the point. Early Voting and Mail-in balloting are perfectly legal means of ensuring an accurate vote happens. And as the PINO points out, an accurate vote ensures Republicans would be accurately represented in all areas of government, instead of what we have today.

    Thoughts?

He was actually honest for a moment, that is more surprising than anything.

Study after study shows this to be true, if voter turnout was the same in all age groups we would have a Democratic House, Senate and Presidency.

Then, after CoronaVirus finally dies out, ensuring an accurate, meddling-free election in November becomes the most important thing to do in the summer/fall of 2020...

Steps need to be taken to ensure the minority Trump low information voter doesn't get to determine more than they did in 2016.

I hope the 2018 midterms were the first signs of reversal/accuracy..

Trump (and his supporters) are going to be in for a long (and frustrating) night on Nov. 3rd.

    I can see it now:

    1) Kellyanne will spend all afternoon going over the Exit Poll Data

    2) Kellyanne will realize that Trump is getting soundly defeated in the Swing States

    3) By 5 PM, Kellyanne will be on Faux News screaming "voter fraud".

Like Clockwork, you can already see that coming.

And, of course,Trump will be screaming on Twitter Parroting Conspiracy Theories.

    All too predictable.

And then the Biden administration is going to have to figure out how to physically remove Trump from the WH in January 2021 without causing damage to the property or person, cause he ain't leaving...

    May I suggest:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tranquillizer_gun

(Pro tip - Use the Brown Bear dosage)

Funny thing about ole Kellyanne, other than family, will anybody else have spent the entire 4 years with Trump in a public facing role?? Can't think of another one off the top of my head...

    Not many.

Everybody else that was even remotely competent (i.e., Any of the "Adults in the Room") have long since abandoned Trump's Sinking Ship.

    And, as far as Kellyanne?

From what I have seen, her main "purpose" in the Administration is assuming provocative positions in the Oval Office (Daring to be Upskirted).

    Sad.:smh:

Not sure what Trump was getting at here...but the evidence doesn't support higher turnout would benefit the Dems exclusively: https://www.businessinsider.com/tru...g-voting-access-would-hurt-republicans-2020-3

    "
In the status quo, 38 states have some form of early voting, 35 allow voters to request an absentee ballot without a documented excuse, and five states (Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Utah, and Hawaii), conduct all their elections almost entirely by mail.

All those states, however, including the ones that exclusively vote by mail, still elect Republicans in nearly every level of government. Utah especially has long been a Republican stronghold despite relying on vote by mail. "

    "
But so far, the available evidence about non-voters doesn't support Trump's assertion that higher voter turnout would automatically benefit Democrats.

A 2019 New York Times meta-analysis of voter file, census, and polling data from registered voters in swing districts found that the prevalent assumptions that non-voters would back Democrats if they turned out to vote may not hold in 2020, partly because of college-educated voters swinging to Democrats and white, non-college educated voters overwhelmingly backing Trump.

The Times said that while Democrats saw the upper limits of how an increase in voter turnout could benefit them in the 2018 midterms, white, working-class voters who did not vote in 2018 are "likeliest to return to the electorate in 2020, and it could set back Democrats in crucial battleground states."

"But The Times' polling of voters in 2018 battleground districts and estimates based on voter file data found that Trump's approval ratings were nearly the same among voters and non-voters, suggesting that non-voters aren't necessarily more anti-Trump than those who did cast ballots. "

    "
Non-voters indicated that if they did vote in 2020, they would back Trump by a margin of eight percentage points in Pennsylvania and five percentage points in Florida, two states Trump carried in 2020.

And in the context of the coronavirus crisis, expanding early voting and vote-by-mail would greatly benefit older voters over the age of 65, who the CDC say are most vulnerable to contracting COVID-19, lean more Republican than younger generations, and backed Trump 53% to 45% the 2016 election."

Not if it was easier to vote, if it was easier to cheat.

Everyone should be given plenty of time to vote, and hopefully not, but if the crisis continues that long, mail entry voting would be mandatory.

    No... easier to vote...

Everybody knows if you want to cheat in an election, all you have to do is change clothes in the parking lot...

Given his comment was made in the context of the Democrats' continued efforts to make it easier for them to cheat, he only stated the obvious.

Really?? what did "lefties" want shut down in particular?? Be specific...

    SNIP
A survey released by the Pew Research Center on Monday showed that roughly 9 in 10 Americans believe that restrictions on international travel, cancellation of sporting and entertainment events, school closures and limits on gatherings of 10 or more people were necessary responses to the pandemic.

The national election will not, of course, be postponed... It's just a question of how it's going to be done...

Sorry, the only proven effort of organized cheating in 2016 was for the GOP in the NC 9th district... resulting in a completely new election (hilariously, still won by the cheaters)

    Tiresome deflection effort...

    Gun stores.
    Churches.
And the Democrats/liberals were happy to label the travel ban from China as racist.

Nothing here changes the -obvious- fact Trump's comment was made in the context of the Democrats' continued efforts to make it easier for them to cheat, and nothing else.

As such, you're not sure what point you think you're trying to make here.

I'm making the point that Trump is fully aware that if every vote in this country were to be counted, Republicans would hold no branches of National Government, and many fewer positions in many state governments.

As @Cubed said in Post #2, a very rare moment of honesty... that they need to fight at all costs.. very understandable...

Nothing in Trump's statement supports this, because Trump's statement was made in the context of "easier voting" means easier cheating by Democrats.

You only think you have a point here because you refuse to admit you know you've taken Trump's statement out of the context in which it was made.

Yes we must ignore what trump says, and instead find a hidden meaning that makes him sound less like an idiot. So we’ve been told for years now.

If by voting public you mean voter fraud then sure you are correct.

In the Bill Pelosi wanted was same day registeration without any form of ID nor even a formal signature.. Aka anyone could mail in a ballot for anyone or hell make one up.
