It's time for the GOP to replace Donald Trump with Tom "Picky" Cotton as the candidate for the presidential election this year. :xd:

"I think it’s natural to underestimate a threat like this when the world hasn’t faced a threat this severe in probably 100 years -- since the Spanish influenza,” Cotton said.

Cotton, however, needs to be reminded that the Spanish influenza should be called the American influenza or Kansas Virus as it originated in Kansas in 1918, otherwise he would turn out to be a bit of a letdown like Trump when he becomes the president next time.

    1. The private sector made the first moves to restrict certain travel from China

    2. It was the very same doctors who were warning that an outbreak in the US was inevitable who were advising to impose more government restrictions

    3. Contrary to what the president claimed at the time, we didn't outright ban travel from China, as Ron Klain said during the house subcommittee hearing for the coronavirus in early Feburary

“We don’t have a travel ban. We have a travel Band-Aid right now. First, before it was imposed, 300,000 people came here from China in the previous month. So, the horse is out of the barn. There’s no restriction on Americans going back and forth. There are warnings. People should abide by those warnings. But today, 30 planes will land in Los Angeles that either originated in Beijing or came here on one-stops, 30 in San Francisco, 25 in New York City. Okay? So, unless we think that the color of the passport someone carries is a meaningful public health restriction, we have not placed a meaningful public health restriction”

    4. Characterizing this as supposed opposition to the travel restriction that were implemented is disingenuous. That was never the issue

    5. Italy implemented their travel restrictions from China before the US did -> https://www.forbes.com/sites/davekeating/2020/03/12/italy-banned-flights-from-china-before-americait-didnt-work/#49ecc9b3481b

    6. The US already has way more confirmed cases than Italy, and currently is on pace to more than double the number of confirmed cases that Italy has https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Contrary to what the president tried to claim, we did not stop the virus from spreading in the US

It is quite possible for the Americans themselves to bring the disease into the country when the US contracted with a transporter to evacuate about three dozen diplomats and their families from the US consulate in Wuhan. At least one of the evacuees could be the carrier of the disease to the US.
