I know facts are inconvenient and not sexy in this environment for the past 11 years, but after three months, if there are only 46,000 deaths world wide, this is not a pandemic. Look it up yourself. 100,000 deaths will never happen in the U.S. The target is the economy. There has been no reason to shut down anything. It is not any worse than the swine flu where 20,000 deaths were reported under President Obama. A national emergency was not declared until 1000 deaths reported. No flights or states were shut down. This report also shows the number of people that have recovered,193,000 have recovered. This question is never asked at the corona virus updates. Nothing like this has ever happened before because we have never had a President Trump before who bucks the establishment.

Would are you ignoring the exponential growth of this virus?

The 1918 Spanish flu killed 50 million people.

One aspect of this whole thing has been overlooked. This became a rich persons flu. Wuhan is business hub with many foreign companies doing business there. You have business men and woman who visited the province and where in and out before any symptoms showed up. Soon it was cruise ship passengers, overseas air travelers, overseas conventioneers who started coming down with it. Then the celebrities started shown up on the radar screen and FEAR grips the nation. Tom Hanks, Joe Diffee, Idris Elba, Mano DiBango, Placido Domingo, Jackson Browne and many athletes Sean Payton and Kevin Durant. Even Royalty like Maria Teresa who died from it were not spared. Many politicians have it. You can check out this website for a known list as of now.

What are you trying to say? Do you think the 100,000 to 240,000 deaths estimated released at the press conference yesterday is too high? Do you think that shutting down flights, schools and business are the wrong move? Do you think we should be reacting like the swine flu? What do you think the death total will be from the virus if these precautions are not taken?

Precisely why this social distancing is junk science.
Especially since millions of "essential" workers are interactin with millions every day and coming home to their families who go out and interact with millions of other "essential" workers

What do you think millions of essential workers interacting with millions of other essential workers, who all go home to their families, who then go interact with millions of other essential workers on a daily basis has accomplished?

What happens when 'essential' people decide it's not worth the risk? That's what these shutdowns are pushing us towards, especially with all the fearmongering...

If we really wanted to stop it, healthcare workers should stay home.
But everybody sure wants millions of them leaving their homes every day

I'm sorry...but what does that mean to you? As it relates to exponential growth?

    Quantify exponential growth.
    What is the exponent?
    What is the base?

A lack of penicillin or a basic understanding of microbiology is another difference between today and A HUNDRED ****ING YEARS AGO.

The flu still kills tens of thousands every year. Do you have a point or are petty profane rants your limit?

The precise numbers change. But this is the graphical version of that exponential growth.

    upload_2020-4-1_16-4-26.png

One month ago, there were 3050 deaths. Twenty days ago, there were 4628 deaths. Ten days ago, there were 13011 deaths.

As of yesterday, there were 42309 deaths.

Here is my point: Covid-19 is objectively much more lethal and spreads much easier than the seasonal flu, so STOP ****ING COMPARING THE TWO.

I think what is has accomplished is lead to the estimate of 100,000 to 240,000 estimated deaths that the white house released yesterday. I am not second guessing the white house numbers. What I am asking is what does the op think the numbers would be if the administration took an approach similar to that taken with H1N1? Do they think the numbers will be similar to the 20,000 death mentioned in the op.

Are you saying that this is some sort of conspiracy? That Italy, Spain, China et al have all shut down their countrues entirely to, what, make Trump look bad? Why do you think every country after resisting, has decide to do full shut ins? We all looked at China as if it could not touch us. Then Italy happened. I am in France, and a week before the **** really hit the fan in Italy it seemed like it was in another part of the world. The English did the same when it finally hit France, and belatedly the US is now facing the reality.
you really think that all these countries are taking this massive economic hit because it might make some politicians look bad. When all is said and done, I do beleive that we will keep it down to 200 000 world wide BECAUSE these massive steps were undertaken.
Or let's spin it another way, do you think Trump is so weak that some external pressure is causing him to crash the whole US economy.
I don't know the medical part of things, but I find it strange that every country that is dealing with this is undergoing massive measures. Do you think they ALL ar wrong?

Do you think what we currently are doing is accomplishing anything?

And if you get sick are you going to stay home or go expose others to your illness?
