What do you think you are actually accomplishing so as not to "endanger" them?

Can you demonstrate that it is saving any lives?

Perhaps masses of starving unemployed civilians, once the dead are buried, will help unendanger lives?

Tens of thousands? When did that happen? And here you were moments ago talking about reality. Seems you could use a dose...

You are obviously not a WaPo reader. :)

"When Olfert Landt heard about the novel coronavirus, he got busy.
Founder of a small Berlin-based company, the ponytailed 54-year-old first raced to help German researchers come up with a diagnostic test and then spurred his company to produce and ship more than 1.4 million tests by the end of February for the World Health Organization.

“My wife and I have been working 16 hours a day, seven days a week, ever since,” Landt said by phone about 1 a.m. Friday, Berlin time. “Our days are full.”
By contrast, over the same critical period, U.S. efforts to distribute tests ground nearly to a halt, and the country’s inability to produce them left public health officials with limited means to determine where and how fast the virus was spreading. From mid-January until Feb. 28, fewer than 4,000 tests from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were used out of more 160,000 produced."

Is that a requirement for you to believing some one? You must know them? Must people judge the source of the information. Based on the credentials of the people giving me the information. Again unless there is evidence to believe the contrary I will accept the credentials of Trump's doctors and scientist on his covid committee.

If your requirement to believe something is tied to you knowing them it totally limits the amount of information you would ever accept. How can you trust any book, statistics, journal new articles unless you know them. That totally limits your world of available information to digest and believe.

Thanks for making the point H1N1 is, to date, more deadlier than COVID-19 and the world wasn't overreacting so badly. Good work.

Again this is getting circular. I accept, (believe), the numbers because I accept, (believe), Trump's doctors that were presenting the numbers. Unless you have some evidence why I should not believe the numbers I tend to go with the fact that these are the people we elected and put in charge. They may not do everything 100% like how I would like but I trust they are presenting information that is accurate. Do you believe they are being fraudulent or do you think they are just erroneous? It has to be one or the other, either they are lying or they a wrong.

Yep. They are 'from the government - they are here to help'.

"First, the CDC moved too slowly to tap into the expertise of academia and private companies such as Landt’s, experts said. For example, it wasn’t until last week that large companies such as Roche and Thermo Fisher won approval from the Food and Drug Administration to produce their own tests."

You know what the biggest problem with the opinions represented on this forum are? They are always extremes. Black and white.

If we can't completely stop the virus, then we're should do nothing. If we desire to stop the virus, then nobody can leave their homes for 4 months.

It serves no purpose and provides no discussion when perspectives are represented from extremes.

The goal of non essential shut down was to slow down the spread. Not stop it. Not cure it. Simply to slow it.

Dont worry, the gov will crush the economy for us too, and give bankers trillion$ so they dont have to suffer the consequences of their poor market decisions, then decry the pitfalls of free market.

Oh for God's sake, there is no conspiracy to tank the economy to try and get Trump. None of Donald's Trump's enemies win with this either. Certainly not the Democrats.

While it's silly to give more than a mediocre amount of credit to Trump, or any president, for the economy in the first place, I doubt anyone is going to be fooled into thinking Donald Trump is bad because the economy tanked after a GLOBAL PANDEMIC. If anything it gives Trump a chance to shine. Trump would have more realistic motive to do this than the Democrats for that exact reason. And the Republicans largely led the charge for the stimulus packages which again only benefits Trump.

Do I think Trump actually did that? Not even slightly.

This is purely stupid conspiracy theory and it belongs in the appropriate sub-forum.

No but he did drag his feet, trivialized the threat, called it like the flu, said it will magically go away, called the genuine concern by Dems a hoax, cited his fantasies [aspirations ] instead of preparing the public, told Governors they are on their own to find equipment, the Federal Governments isn't a shipping company, and it led millions of his followers to treat this as nothing more than a cold or the flu. Even now there are people posting that crap.

Trump may not be responsible for tanking the economy but he will be guilty of killing tens of thousands of people because of his arrogance and stupidity. And it was bound to happen sooner or later. How else could a travesty like trump end except with tens of thousands of dead bodies?

Fox, Limbaugh et al will be sued out of existence for their part in killing their followers.

You can't yell "There is no fire!" in a burning theater.

Good Morning America announced this morning more people have died then on 9/11. The flu also kills far more every year than 9/11 but we never hear about it and no one makes a big stink.
