A person who does not have a reserve built up - yet spends money on the items listed - won't get much sympathy from me. It is wise to be frugal and make sacrifices so that one may build up a financial reserve to see himself through hard times. It is a real shame that people are so short-sighted. Dave Ramsey and anyone wise enough to put future goals ahead of short term goals would agree with me 100 percent. Hell, I can actually afford all of those things if I wanted them, but I don't do any of that stuff myself. That a person with no financial reserves would do any of that is idiotic. (okay, I do eat at a restaurant on rare occasions, and every night isn't beans and taters)

Wasting money on frivolous things has no racial component. That you would see it as a racial thing is, well, I'm not sure what it is. So, let me put it like this - that race card of yours only has so many plays in it before it wears out - would be wise to conserve those plays for when it is really warranted.

Where I come from we feed a person that is hungry. We don't ask for references or judge.

Easy... I deal with plenty of youngsters on a weekly basis. 4 years of trade school/college and those youngsters are making from 50k to 80k per year.

How would you determine if they are hungry?

It's your business if you want to express yourself in such negative way, but any message of frugality or practicality is lost in your self-righteous indignation. You might have some positive in sights to share, but no one will care with that tone.

not everyone makes 50 to 80k a year
or has parents that can help them financially, ect....

do not disagree that learning a trade is wise right now though

I got lucky, I grew up poor, but computers were new and I could learn fast, that was all that was required, but we are sending those jobs to India now, so trade is a young persons best bet, those jobs can not be outsourced yet

people do not want to admit it, but life is partially luck, you can improve your odds, but not everyone will make it to that 50 to 80k job - in fact the majority of Americans make less than that, they are not all failures, not all lazy

raising the min wage would help the poorer working class as well as society as a whole - the min wage has not kept up with inflation

I blame Trump for his handing of it

sort of like when Benghazi was attacked, the right blamed Obama because they felt he did not handle it right

One way to rise above one's "class" is to not spend money on stupid stuff. Anyone who does spend money on stupid stuff deserves to stay in whatever class they are in.

So, it isn't classicism. It is: Being frugal versus wasting money and complaining that you don't have any emergency money.

The above from the guy who posted "your racism is showing"...

Look, there are no poor people posting here to absorb any advice anyway. Because if there are any poor people on here, they are wasting valuable time that could be used to better their lives instead of listening to a bunch of partisan hacks and well-to-do jack asses wasting our time spouting our opinions into the depths of oblivion.

the mistake Trump made is thinking the lefts concern over Corona was a hoax, and then not being able to admit he was wrong, probably long after he knew they were right

Trump's fragile ego is his biggest flaw

Side jobs. I did all sorts of odd jobs in my early 20’s, fresh out of the army, going to school nights, working days, supporting my pregnant wife and two kids. I cut, split, hauled, and sold a lot of firewood. Odd jobs for cash or worked off the rent. I hooked up with a landscaper that hired me to build patio covers. My wife and I would work dawn to dusk on a Saturday, and dawn to noon on Sunday finishing the patio for around $2000.
Not bad for a weekend. Usually did two a month, and this was after 40 hours on a regular job, and two 4 hour nights at night school.
It can be done, it just takes a will to achieve.

yes, you can point to the worst case and say everyone poor is like that

we can point to greedy rich people like Trump and say every rich person is like that

also true is that consumerism is what keeps the economy going, if everyone stopped spending, the economy would crash

Assuming people are wasting their money instead of dealing with the reality that moving up is becoming increasingly difficult as we abandoned the mechanisms that allow a middle class is classicism, or ignorance. Or, I suppose, classest ignorance.

Also, your anecdotal life story is just that, an anecdote.

Its true, I remember I was something of a keyboard jockey here during the lean times. It helped me develop communication skills and empathy for other peoples point of view/ way of thinking. Can you believe that! There are worse ways to spend an odd hour or 2.

I care, I feel exactly the same way.

Here's a good example. an acquaintance of mine lost his job due to the virus just bought a brand new grill, not a craigslist grill, a $600 weber at home depot.

he had about a 6 week cushion and just spent 1/4 of it on a friggen grill. he mentioned that hes pre-spending his stimulus check. (not to mention a 2018 car. new phone upgrades, 65" tv, all the stupid other purchases)

and I'm expected to have sympathy?

I hope his family does, but there are too many idiots for me to handle.

yes yes there are legit cases of poverty out there and I feel for them and I'm glad they are getting help but I dont lose sleep over the fools with holes in their pockets.

phone payments don't = moving up.

    they = holding down.

I hope the sympathy you have for foolish spenders runs deep and strong because a few million if them are about to come out of the woodwork like cockroaches.

the legit cases will be enough of a strain on the system and they deserve the help, but the idiots will be pulling resources away from them.

No, you're not expected to have sympathy. Your government will provide all the sympathy any citizen needs. It is going to send him enough money one of these days to pay a month's expenses.

Sympathy is just a word in the dictionary.

His post could be about anyone of any race or color. How did you read race into that post? I think I know how. You are jumping to a conclusion that he is talking about one race based on your own racists stereotypes. Your post is akin to Biden when he said, “We should challenge students in these school and have advanced placement programs in these schools,” Biden said. “We have this notion that somehow if you’re poor, you cannot do it. Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” It's kinda fun to watch a person expose their own prejudices while accusing someone else of the same racist prejudice without any reason. It was good for a chuckle. Thanks.
