Why was the 2009 pandemic not taken ANYWHERE NEAR as seriously as COVID-19?

In the local television stations, around here, in Oregon, have been heavily messaging preventive messages in accordance with the direction of the governor's office. The early closing of restaurants, bars, and other places where people congregate, including schools, and the promotion of social distancing have done much to prevent much of an outbreak in the state. The latest numbers seem to indicate, that even though the numbers in California and Washington are growing, here in Oregon, the curve, which was never that steep, has begun to flatline. Even though the local hospitals have geared up for it, they just haven't had that many Covid19 patients. I think the culture of the Multnomah County area, where the population is most dense, has prevented much of an outbreak. That the people quickly saw the threat, not just to ourselves, but to those around us, and acted appropriately.

It is freaky weird, not to see people out and about, the streets empty of cars. Yet it seems to be working.

Yeah, so I mean that the media wouldn't be the ones that would come up with the prevention methods idea, but obviously they would be the initial and main means of communicating the message.

So you agree you didn't and can't refute the data and graph you were given. Thank you.

No, as plainly posted in language an 8th grader can understand, I did refute and have refuted the ridiculous distortion, did so in at least two different ways in different posts... for those who actually read threads, and unlike yourself generally contribute to them in meaningful ways. I did so in print for all to see, and anyone who claims otherwise is a liar. Not surprised at that in the least given the source.

Not at all surprised at anything -you- miss on this forum or anywhere else, watching the shapes on television, the ground or even looking at the sky.

Others may simply read the thread.

Or keep telling us how Corona is somehow third in deaths caused in ever more hilariously bent, distorted hoodoo ways. Either way is fine.

Well... you said you that you left the party because of the "dogma of thinking" that they were "on the right side of history". Not because they were on the wrong one. Just because thought they were on the right one. Looks to me like you left it looking for a party that you thought was on the wrong side of history.... whatever party you're in.

On a related but different topic: no party has a "dogma" that they are "on the right side of history". It's individuals who have such dogma. All parties have a political platform. But only ideologues confuse a political platform with a "dogma" that they must follow. It's impossible for anybody to always agree with the platform of the Party they support. In fact, very often they'll disagree with particular positions. So ideologues only see two options: they either align themselves with the party, and defend the position they don't believe in to death; or they leave the Party

Ideologues in the Republican Party most often take the first option. Ideologues in the Democratic Party tend more toward the latter.

There are many reasons why HRC lost the last elections. In my opinion, the most damaging of all was that of Sanders ideologues (I was a Sanders supporter, but not an ideologue) abandoning the party, because they disagree with her. While Republicans aligned behind Trump even though they knew he was not fit to be President.

It would be interesting to hear your description of the Democrats. Maxine, Nancy, Chuck, Sleepy Joe, AOL, et al. Compared to them, the Republicans you bashed could be considered brainacs.

Also... why do you think Obama failed to act causing the death of over 11,000 Americans during H1N1? More importantly, why didn't liberals expect him to act like they expect Trump to act?

Over 2,000 Ventilators In National Stockpile Are Unusable Because Of Months-Long Contract Lapse
The contract with a company that was maintaining the machines for the government expired at the end of last summer, and a new firm didn't begin its work until January. Meanwhile, hospitals and doctors continue to think through the most humane way to ration care if the expected shortage of ventilators comes to pass.

I can't, just as you can't quote using the exact words, "the warnings of the severity of the virus [are] a Democratic hoax." By the way - "COVIDIOT Tramp" - Utterly LAUGHABLE and PATHETIC nickname! :roflol:

Shortly after the election of 2018, when the Democrats won big in the House of Representatives, Trump gave a little speech, followed by Nancy Pelosi. It was quite obvious that Nancy was considerably more intelligent than Trump. At the time, I predicted that the last two years of Trump's presidency would be a battle between smart Nancy and dumb Donald, which we have seeing. Both Clinton and Obama were achademic standouts and both are well spoken which is in stark contrast with the Republican counterparts.

Every Republican administration since Nixon has been marred by large numbers of their associates committing crimes and being sent to prison. Everyone of them riding into office on the back of a scandal.

Yet we don't see that level of corruption with Democratic presidents.

Contriving these desperate diversions is silly.

Why were bone spurs not taken anywhere as seriously as the current pandemic?

Very unlike COVID-19, the risk of serious illness resulting from the 2009 H1N1 flu was no higher than that of the yearly seasonal flu.

A contract dispute with a private company is not what you originally alleged. Nice try though.

I am not sure whether you are attempting to minimize the threat fro COVID-19 now, or exaggerate the treat from H1N1 over a decade ago,
nor whether your diversion is intended as an indictment of medical authorities then or now.

Obviously, the current threat presents the current challenge.
