    Not cops!

    Courts. Civil not criminal.

I used "cops" meaning "the law", "the courts", "the authorities".

My point is that the courts don't care about students breaking college rules, so that would go nowhere in court.

Lawyer representing the college: "Your honor, this student secretly recorded his professor's lecture in flagrant violation of the rules of our esteemed university!"

Judge: "So? Expel the doofus. What do I care? Case dismissed."

I am surprised you took a position so easily defeated. I am equally surprised you believe a broadcast video couldn't be leaked anonymously. I am not surprised that you are protecting theft of professors using tax and tuition to push their beliefs. One of my sons professors was as liberal as it gets, but encouraged students to disagree and explain why.

It is 100% intellectual property. Not even sure why you are arguing against it.

Also it’s owned by the University.

You can repeat it 10 times, you're still wrong. Wise men argue opinion; only the fool argues fact. Please cite a case of intellectual property theft by a student recording a professor.

Hollywood movies are also 100% intellectual property owned by the megabucks studios, but I'm allowed to snatch clips of them and make dumb YouTube videos goofing on the clips all day long, and even all the millions of dollars the studios have can't win a lawsuit against me for 'copyright infringement' or 'theft of intellectual property' or whatever.

    "Fair use". Look it up.

If I took a clip of a secretly-recorded professor's lecture, and I put up a video of me goofing on the lecture clip on muh YouToobz, it would be considered "transformative", and I'd be golden grahams.

    Muh freeze peach!

    First Amendment FTW!

Typically, intellectual theft is defined as profiting off of another's intellectual property. If these 'tricksters' buy or sell the videos, there will be a case for theft.

It doesn't appear they've done so.

Yes, if you sold the lecture in its original form, just took the exact lecture, and made money off the professor's exact "intellectual property", then that you could be sued for that.

Now, If I did a video of me goofing on the lecture like "Look at this barking moonbat smelly hippie telling his students that men have vaginas too!" and then I went and sold that, I'd be good to go.

I'm covered legally because I "transformed" the professor's work by adding my own unique value to it, and thus I've made it my own unique work.

That's free speech. How cool is that?

Does shooting up the GOP baseball team count as a death threat?

Chinese-linked Zoom Admits Some Calls Were ‘Mistakenly’ Routed Through China. I wouldn’t use Zoom for anything even vaguely sensitive, at this point. And at this point, if I’d been smart enough to buy Zoom stock two or three months ago, I’d be thinking about selling it as more and more bad news keeps coming out.

College/University courses on every subject imaginable are already available to anyone interested. I don’t know why it would be a big deal to have a couple more lectures out there. Nobody cares.

This isn't a freedom of speech issue, this is a copyright issue. The ideas expressed by the professor is their ideas, and unauthorized recording is copyright infringement. People might be worried about academia, but a political slant isn't enough to justify any crimes being committed. Illegally recording is that, it's illegally recording.

A math professor might not want to be secretly recorded for personal reasons, but I can't imagine they'd be upset about the subject matter they're teaching being revealed. What's controversial about the Pythagorean Theorum? It's been around for thousands of years, and it's not exactly a secret.

The leftist professors are absolutely upset about having their wacky progressive indoctrination being exposed.

How? Aren't they supposed to be teaching what's in accredited text books? Text books that are available to anyone so long as they pay for it? What are they teaching outside of those textbooks?

I think Yulee has pretty much given up on this one. The reality of the situation just isn't on his side.

Professors aren't supposed to be teaching their ideas. They're supposed to be teaching facts.

I encourage all students to record their professors. Its good for studying AND if they say something outrageous it can be brought forward to the public.

As long as its in one party consent states then its not illegally recording. And copyright has already been explained in this thread so I'll skip it.
