Stay at home orders are a joke, here's why

The Queen got on TV and thanked everybody today, including those who're are staying at home.


When push comes to shove, even my own government's not above teaching everybody how to wash our hands and grounding us; guess the safest way to protect something is to treat it like a kid.

 

Yes - like ALL industries, there are regulations. You forgot about OSHA, equal employment, taxes, unemployment insurance, FDA, etc.

That doesn't mean that our manufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, energy and other segments aren't capitalist.

 

That’s exactly what it means. Capitalism requires a separation between the free markets and the state. not government permission to make a profit.

 

I also liked how she encouraged people to think about how we will look back at the contributions and sacrifice that led a nation through this threat - something we all need to be part of.

I was impressed by her leadership. A strong and positive message of unity and resolve.

We are a capitalist nation. And, EVERY business works under federal regulation.

No one knows whether they're 'high risk' until they get it, so every infection leads to potentially exponentially more deaths. The only way, short of a universal vaccination program, to stop it spreading is social distance. Unlike bacteria, viruses need hosts to survive. That's our weapon against them. Unfortunately we have no choice but to deprive the virus of hosts, if we want to beat it. Masks etc won't do much if crowds are still gathering, and people are still handling surfaces without observing decontamination protocols, etc.

If you'd followed those guidelines in the absence of social distancing and border control, your death toll would be even higher than it is today, and your economy might never recover. The evidence is very clear at this stage .. closing borders (including internal borders), and stringent social isolation is the key to beating this thing.

The Immorality of Government Medicine

 

Unfortunately, too many people are behaving like children.

 

A united nation is crucial to beating this. If people are working against each other, instead of the common enemy, we fail.

 

COVID response has nothing to do with Obamacare.

 

Our friend appears to be losing it. I'm seeing pronounced fear-driven denial in a lot of people (both here, and IRL). We should have expected it, but the numbers are concerning.

 

I think what we have done is an absolute disaster. I would have isolated the at risk - those over 60, those with one or more comorbidities - and gone about as normal untik a vaccine is found.

But we've taken this action now and I won't sabotage it.

 

I am not worried about Trump forcing corps to make medical equipment during a crisis

what is more concerning is corporatism controlling our government

 

now that they say cats and dogs can also catch this virus, outdoor cats may actually add to the threat if they can pass it back to humans

 

I certainly think it's within every American's constitutional right to die from Coronavirus if that's their choice. Every so often it helps to thin out the herd of idiots in this country.
