He can not defend the belief that Professors should not be allowed to push their own political agendas, so instead he derails the thread and goes into a thousand other things in the hopes that the idea is lost. I realized that and basically do not even bother anymore.

Sounds to me like he has fallen into the Conspiracy Theory well. Going on and on about things that have nothing to do with the topic, but might in some convoluted way be applicable. If only in his own mind. But among all that babble I did see this gem:

A few years ago a Professor was fired after going on a long rant in class about the President. The thing is, that professor was teaching WWII history. There was absolutely no reason to bring up the President or anything else like that when teaching a class about history 70 years ago. We have had cases like this over and over again, and ultimately all those that defend those actions share those beliefs and believe they should be taught in schools.

However, being a "Militant Moderate", I believe that such should never be taught, ever, period. Unless it is part of an approved curriculum. And I do not give a damn who the President or politician is. President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, or President Trump. Instructors, teachers, and professors should never be going on about contemporary topics unless they relate directly to the material at hand, and even then only in a neutral manner presenting both sides of the issue.

Fine, a Professor teaching the US Constitution might even be free to go into how President Obama might not be eligible under the "Natural Born Citizen" clause because some say he was born in another country. That can apply. But that same "birther" nutcase Professor had also better discuss why such a case does not apply to Senator McCain, Senator Goldwater, Senator Cruze, and a great many other US citizens that had run for President and also not been born in the US. And be able to justify why it applies in some cases, but not in others.

Myself, I personally do not give a damn where he was born. Never have. His mother was a US citizen, she and her son returned to the US where he spent most of his life. But unless the class was in the Constitution, a Professor should never even bring this kind of thing up, as it does not apply.

I simply used one that i knew would interest you... ;)

How is that a "fact"? Come on now, let's see you use statistical significance and all that wonderful education your wife has.

You can't see how science needs statistical significance? No wonder why the definition of a fact eludes this discussion.

Sure explain statistical significance and how there are more then two genders ( your claim)

Go for it... The floor is yours.. I suggest you use factual data and not opinion or propaganda or you would be proving the point of this thread..

Do your best and you might get a cookie at the end.

Can you show me where in this thread I said that? Go on, I can wait. Or do you feel your desperation kicking in while you realize just how little you actually know? It would explain how you've argued this thread. Focus on one or two narrow points at the exclusion of the overarching argument. Can't respond to the argument so nitpick the details. A smart strategy, but one you can lose if the opponent knows what she is talking about.

You throw around statistical significance to sound important and educated but when called upon to provide any information to prove your point whatsoever you go into slur mode..

Your gender ( one of two) is moot.

    Thanks for the laughs..

You can ask politely for things. You didn't ask for proof, but I'll give it to you anyways.

That's what I'm talking about, I know this because I had to read and respond to it last semester for class on how to do science. If you need a good laugh, look at your argument. What have you accomplished? Showing you can't respond to an argument from analogy or understand statistics, how about being unable to back up your own claim when asked about it? You try to push your onus onto me like you got caught lying and have no clue what's going on. I suppose if you laugh, it's because you see your argument in a mirror reflecting your actions today. Nice try again.

When have i ever stated that not being able to reproduce data/results was not an issue...

See you see yourself standing on a throne talking down to people..

    Things like

"Showing you can't respond to an argument from analogy or understand statistics,"

Are meant to put me on the defensive instead of debunking your points.. Not going to happen sorry.

    About five minutes ago?

You haven't debunked any of my points, but you have accused me of being off topic because I asked someone to define what a fact was. Turns out saying 'I just want professors to report the facts' might be a bit of a loaded statement. If I'm talking down on you, it's because you have tried multiple times of getting the upper hand by arguing details. Your first response to me in this thread was saying I had made a typo, and when asked to engage with my argument you fled. I'm showing you what happens when someone applies your methods on you. Don't like it? Take the arguments I post seriously. You can, all you have to do is agree to take the arguments seriously. What say you?

Quote me saying repeatable data/results was not important to science.. Knock yourself out doing so...

Yes ranting about Nazis is off topic .. Ranting about Galieo when speaking about 2020 is... off topic..

You claimed political parties does not have anything to do with political violence.. I asked you about Brown Shirts and you never replied to that.. Then you claim i "fled"? How about not constantly moving the goal posts and you could keep up with yourself nevermind others.

Did I ever make that claim about you? Or are you still trying to push your onus onto me? I asked you to show how you prove that, because that's the core of the thread about professors making opinions in class.

So you mentioned Nazis first is what you're saying? Or do you need to think about how political institutions can affect research and what "opinions/facts" can be shared? Which then gets to the next point.

Did I claim that, or did I say my professor claimed that? And I did respond to you. I asked you whether or not that was her opinion or a fact. You then dodged and asked about the Catholic Church. Look at the thread again.

Music works different. You can be sued for being overly "derivative" of other artist's work. It's considered like copying.

You really don't argue in good faith do you? How do I know? You ignored 4/5 (being generous) of the post responding to you to move the goal posts. Did I bring up the Nazis first, or did you?

Fine. But I notice you said nothing on the simple fact that any instructor should not be injecting their own personal or political beliefs into the classroom.

I can only assume that since you said nothing, either you completely agree with that statement, or have nothing to say in reply. So instead you go off onto something completely different.

    Nope.

Actually, it has long ago been determined that anybody can copy anybody, it is perfectly legal. Copy, steal the lyrics or music, none of it matters, the original artist can not stop it in any way.

What Mr. Ice got in trouble for was stealing the music, then claiming it was an original work and not paying royalties. Queen was entitled to royalties, and they got them.

And it can even get more convoluted, especially in the case of Mr. Yankovic, because he is insistent that he not only gets permission, but pays all royalties. That is why 1/4 of a song he made based on a Dire Straits hit go to Sting, because he was co-writer and sang a line on the original. And for the much maligned "Amish Paradise", a quarter of those royalties do not even go to Coolio, they go to the artist that he stole the music from. Stevie Wonder.

I already said my piece and yet you wrote “Professors should not be allowed to push their own political agendas, so instead (s)he derails the thread and goes into a thousand other things in the hopes that the idea is lost. I realized that and basically do not even bother anymore.”

Yet you bothered to respond so if you actually want a serious discussion, you need to engage with what I’m saying. Or you can insult me. Either or but the ball is in your court. Recording professors because they don’t talk about “facts” is a terrible argument. Go.
