oh I did and didn't panic and project wild dumbass numbers for political purposes.

I've said Cuomo has done a good job because I'm not a partisan hack that can't praise someone whos done the right thing. I've got a different opinion on him and Newsom now and they've both praised Trump because he has done an admirable job for their states and they've done a good job for their people. Political hacks constantly distort facts and promote daily BS only to troll and create divide.

Do you have any evidence to support this claim other than your prejudice against what your dear leader would call "shithole countries?" I am going to take you seriously for a second and give you the benefit of the doubt that I am talking to a person capable of being thoughtful. Why would there be discrepancies between countries where Borat assumes people would get coronavirus easily and their actual reported numbers? First, lets start with the reasons why their numbers might actually be lower. A few things make it possible. The first is the obvious fact that the countries you mentioned have way fewer international travelers. If fewer people are traveling abroad and fewer visitors are coming in, it is actually entirely reasonable you wouldn't have as major an outbreak or at least the outbreak would hit them later. Another reasonable explanation would be that some of those countries have larger percentages of their populations living in areas where the population density is low. America's population density is actually reasonably low, but many of the countries below us on that list do have lower population density than we do. That is a benefit in times of viral spread.

Now lets assume the opposite. Those countries actually do have a much higher caseload than is being reported, what would explain that discrepancy? The answer is one simple thing. They have no testing capacity. Since they aren't testing for coronavirus, they won't show any coronavirus cases. Or if they are testing, but in very small numbers, their numbers will be much lower than they actually are. I hope so far, there is no place for partisan disagreement.

Here comes the rub. These arguments actually make the US look really really bad. Countries with lower population density should be at an advantage. We have a reasonably low population density, yet our numbers are still quite high. Even more importantly, our testing rate is quite low compared to all those "western" countries you were talking about. Which means your whole argument for why countries below us shouldn't really be below us, applies better to the countries you say we are doing better than. We don't have the testing capacity, because of catastrophic failures of political leadership, so our numbers look lower than they actually are.

Nope, you really shouldn't be commenting about any of this stuff, because you don't seem to understand the very basics. Again, all those places have either a lot of visitors, high population density, or both. All those places are large cities. If you don't understand, cities have more people, so higher population density. New Jersey is our most densely populated state. It is also next to our largest city and the city most visited by people from outside the country (and the city with the largest population of Chinese and Chinese-Americans). So, of course they have the most cases!! If Montana had the most cases, it would either be an extraordinary statistical anomaly, or we would have to assume the disease is primary spread by cattle...

That number came from an imperial college report that estimated between 50,000 and 2 million people would die in the U.S. That level of variation in a model is enormous, but it is explained by the fact that so many of the variables being used to model the disease were unknown. So for example, the 2 million people estimate was based on data about spread and morbidity coming out of China, the diamond princess cruise, and a few other places. It was also assuming no social distancing policies were put into place. So if the numbers at that early a stage on spread and morbidity were accurate, which is a big if, AND we did not practice social distancing, the projection was for 2 million deaths.

The 50,000 death estimate on the other hand was based on assumptions that we would practice very strict social distancing, the rate of spread would be lower than the data we had suggested, and the death rate would similarly be lower.

Since we have instituted social distancing dictates in many states, we have already basically guaranteed that 2 million number won't be reached. So while you may think it was wrong or dishonest to cite that number, that is not what was happening there. If you are interested, the whole paper is here. It is short enough that is reasonable for non-experts to read.

No no a couple of weeks ago many on here were touting up to 2 million in deaths and 20-30 million infected and blaming Trump.

About as 'smart' as this answer.
You've completely and intentionally mischaracterized the "two million deaths" quote.
On April 1st, Donald Trump asked a rhetorical question; “What would have happened if we did nothing?”

    He then answered his own rhetorical question;
“Think of the number — potentially 2.2 million people if we did nothing, if we didn’t do the distancing, if we didn’t do all of the things that we’re doing,” Trump said.

“I thought about it,” Trump conceded. “I said, ‘Maybe we should ride it through.’”

People here on this forum haven't "touted" that there would be 2 million deaths and 20-30 million infected -- blaming Trump. No, they did not. These are Trump's words, not ours. He literally said it aloud, that "maybe we should ride it through" meaning maybe we should go on with our business, open up the stores, take the risk of losing 2 million lives in order to save the economy.

The first case of coronavirus was identified in Washington State on January 21st. So, yes, this virus has been in the US "for months".

    Translation: You have no answer.

If you want to stop the Trump haters in their tracks just ask what could have been done.....that shuts them up every time.

Other things do need to be considered during a crisis. Panicked knee jerk responses can often cause more damage than the crisis itself.

How about you tell us what could have been done better instead of pointing while mumbling "orange man bad".

I have yet to see a coherent case laid out against Trump and the haters have the advantage of hindsight! It is much easier to criticize and say what should have been done than actually doing something.

Trump haters want to blame everything on Trump but fail to say that others have responsibilities as well. What about the WHO? CDC? Governors? Congress? Leaders of other countries?

Where is the criticism of those people?

Hahaha! I will tell you: for Trump haters everything is buried in a mountain of toxic hatred for America and the American people.

I could search for the article that goes over the police report but you would not accept it anyways.

Because it isn't his job description. The President hasn't had the power to impound since 1974, so what is allocated for supplies must be spent. If there is a problem with the emergency systems, that doesn't maintain itself, and distribute as needed, regardless of who is Commander in Chief, that is on CONGRESS.

Whether or not there is redundancy, is on CONGRESS. CONGRESS can say x amount of ventilators will be maintained, and make it a 30 year sentence if any bureaucrat fails to follow the law. CONGRESS can make a law for redundancy, so more than one contractor maintains the devices, and CONGRESS make a law to hang people by the neck until dead if they don't do their job.

Laws, those are the things that either must be violated, or followed, so unless you can show where the executive or some lower bureaucracy broke a law, then blame CONGRESS, they are the only ones with the purse, and the only ones that can make laws.

If ever there's a time that it's appropriate to have a 'knee jerk' response, it's right at the start of a global pandemic. In February, there were 15 reported cases of coronavirus in the US, today, there's over 400,000. So what transpired in those two critical months after the first cases were diagnosed? What steps were taken to prevent the spread of this virus?

Let's do some retrospection. As recent as last month, Trump reversed his claim that this virus is 'no worse than the flu' which he said in February. And, even worse, you believed that in February whereas, others chose to believe the scientists and epidemiologists. Trump hates that the economy has taken a lethal blow, as anyone does. But Trump understated and softened up this deadly virus since January when he was first given notice of this deadly virus. Yes, he could have done much more, much quicker.

Trump told governors that if they need more vital medical equipment they might be better off to get it on their own. We should all be grateful to the governors of Ohio, Illinois, New York, Washington, Michigan and other states who have shown leadership in closing schools, limiting public gatherings, and shutting down bars and restaurants to limit the spread of coronavirus. Because of their prompt actions, less people will likely get infected.

Instead of protecting the nation’s public health which demands clear, truthful, and compassionate leadership, Trump has offered exactly the opposite by publicly attacking some governors. Cuomo, Inslee and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer are being hailed and praised for displaying actual leadership while Trump is assailed for being a complete disaster and refusing to accept any responsibility at the precise time that the American people are looking for exactly that.

You are assuming that a few cases suddenly spread into 400,000. No one knows how many case were in the US at any given time so how can you make such an assumption? Answer: you cannot.

What about China's responsibility here? Why didn't China stop infected people from travelling? Why hasn't China shut down these "wet markets" that are nothing but pandemic producing cess pools?

If you are going to place blame then do it correctly.

Trump put his (very incomplete) travel ban on China (and no where else) on January 29...

What did he do after that besides play golf hold rallies and tell everyone it was no big deal...just a Dem hoax....

All any government knows is what's reported to them by local hospitals, clinics, etc. But according to the CDC, there were 15 cases in Feb, and according to the CDC there are more than 400k cases now. If you want to argue statistics with the CDC, feel free to write to them and question their reporting methods. Here's their address and toll-free telephone number:

The Trump supporters can defend the charge that Trump et al wasted months, but they will lose the argument.
