Because after the US got tired of his antics, they went in and arrested him.

Then after serving a long prison sentence in the US, he was extradited to France. Where he underwent another trial and was sentenced yet again.

Then Panama asked for him back, to face charges there. And after he was sentenced to life in prison, where he remained until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was then released to house arrest where he died 5 months later.

It is not often that an individual is sentenced in 3 different countries.

 

Well it doesn't look like the US are going to do the same with Maduro any time soon, does it? They have announced a reward for his capture. Who the hell does the US think will capture him?

 

What about the innocent people of the country? What about your counterparts, innocent people who are punished by US sanctions?

Only the US can really sanction. Washington is able to keep track of all the financial transactions through SWIFT since it uses the American dollar. What sanctioned nations do now, is conduct trade using their own currency. Either that or they use gold, but it is clumsy.

There were help wanted signs on stores saying blacks and Irish need not apply, and the KLU KLUX KLAN didn't just attack blacks, they attacked Jews, Catholics and others if they didn't conform. There was a revival of the KLAN in the 1920's, and they even passed a law to stop immigration from Southern and Eastern Europe. My father came here as an illegal because of it. It was revoked later by Jack Kennedy, whose biggest obstacle in becoming president, was his Catholic faith.

 

Is it Trump, because someone said that three separate people with inside knowledge in Washington had told him that Trump is not really in charge, and that some powers were taken away from him. Is there a coup going on that's being hidden from the American people? If so, then many of the actions being attributed to Trump might not really be his.

Yes, it's true. Those "politically illiterate masses" are of the belief that political discussions are indications of intelligence so if they can just squeeze a few words in between those who are earnest participants it will make them seem/feel intelligent. The problem is that political philosophy isn't laid out with clear & simple boundaries "this is a that" and "that is a this" which confuses them. So they eavesdrop on political discussions by high-school drop-outs at the pub so they can rush home to the computer and repeat what they overheard but pass it off as their own. When that doesn't work they try to find short-cut markers such as ...... anyone with red socks and sandals are communists, or ..... anyone who votes for Trump is a far-right nationalist and ..... "typical Democrat" or "typical Republican". Honest people judge each individual issues with square one interest and make convictions upon those issues with the best solutions in mind, not "go left" or "go right" no matter what. Maybe all of that is just too complicated for some people?

 

There are a number of standard right wing narratives - they all go along the lines of "Socialism is Communism - of the totalitarian variety" and this is what folks like Sanders mean by Democratic Socialism. This absurd idiotic and false nonsense narrative is peddled day and night on Fox and right wing talk shows ... stated defacto - as if it were true.

Note they always use examples like Cuba and Venezuela .. Stalin's Russia or Mao's China .. as this somehow represents the system that folks like Sanders want.

Yes. The further this goes the worse it gets. Feeble minds are pushing the two extremes further and further away from any logic at all. Anyone who thinks medical access to the masses is no longer called a humanitarian, a conscientious citizen, a socialist, a leftist, a communist, or even a pinko-commie. Now they are all "Marxists". I said that conservatives believe in social safety nets. We dont expect people with handicaps to starve in the street. You replied that I am only speaking in extremes and expect governemnt intervention during a catastrophe, and never other times.
