Why was the response of the Trump Regime to COVID-19 so feeble?

You don't like facts you don't like, but all of Trump's statements I have quoted are well-documented.

When I provide you with an instance of Trump's many foolish statements regarding COVID-19 (See https://www.salon.com/2020/03/10/13...irus-claims-have-gone-down-in-flames_partner/ or https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/timeline-trump-covid19-responses/), you cannot handle the truth.

On June 25, Trump played down concerns about the coronavirus in the U.S., saying the situation was "under control" and was a "problem that's going to go away." "We have very few people with it," Trump told reporters, that "the people are getting better, they're all getting better,"

His refusal to come to grips with reality in timely fashion has now made the U.S the epicenter of the pandemic.

You call it presidential when all you do is whine and blame everybody else because you were late to the game. It is not Trump's responsibility is to the nation. Cuomo's was to the state of New York where he is not doing all that well.

You really need to be blaming China, and Cuomo, whose state is the US epicenter.

isn't it Trump that is doing that

Trump promised to help, then failed to follow through, don't blame the states for trusting him

Cuomo praised Trump for promising to help, with Trump, once he has the praise, that is all he wants, no need to keep the promises anymore

Trump was late to the game....

but sounds like he is starting to get it

Desperate attempts to divert attention from Trump's failures fail.

Multiple documented instances of Trump dismissing, minimizing, and misstating the threat from COVID-19 have been presented.

Feeble response from hardcore Trumpers to the irrefutable record of ignorance, deceit, incompetence, and inability to provide national leadership:

    "Oh, yeah!
    Well, what about ...?"

Take a look at when the first case was found in Italy and compare that to the US and you might get some ideas.

    One of his many mistakes.
He should have tested them or short of that put them in quarantine. Same with Europe.

Ummm ... he did do that. Sorry you're ignorant, but there's really no excuse on this particular point. I posted earlier in this thread from this NYT article:

    That was in January.

    Pretty funny.

Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency.

    ...

Officials said any American citizen returning to the United States from the Hubei Province in China, where the outbreak is centered, would be subject to up to 14 days of mandatory quarantine. Any American returning to the country who has visited the rest of mainland China within the last 14 days will undergo proactive health screening at selective ports of entry.

The government also imposed a two-week quarantine on 195 people who were evacuated on Wednesday from Wuhan, China, to a California military base.

Over 8,000 arrived at only 3 airports when Trump's knee jerked and he shut down China without a plan.

To add insult to injury he did it again with Europe.

Your getting in such a snit over my posting documented truths that upset you does not have the slightest impact upon those truths. Your worshipful attempt at desperately-needed diversion, becoming so hysterical about the messenger, fails to confront the message.

Americans are getting it. There is a predisposition to support any POTUS in time of national crisis, but Trump continues to befoul his free ride:

As we are the peak of this media drive “Fearnado” it’s no surprise the polls show dropping support for the POTUS. As we sail clear of it and the country takes a breath, reflects on how well it has been handled and they get back to work his polls will see a huge upswing.

Americans were told repeatedly 2 million might die, looks like that be closer to 50,000. That will have a huge positive effect on the polls going into Nov.

It's far too late to stick a smiley face on the pandemic. Trump's sorry record is what it is, and desperate attempts to rewrite it or suppress it will fail if we just stick to what is irrefutable.

    See https://www.myjournalcourier.com/ne...steps-slowed-in-Trump-s-pandemic-15195229.php

On Jan. 22, Trump played down the threat posed by the respiratory virus from China:

“We have it totally under control,”
Trump said on CNBC. “It’s one person coming in from China, and we have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

11 weeks later, the coronavirus has infected more than 500,000 Americans and killed at least 20,000. It has rewritten the rules of society, isolated people in their homes, closed schools, devastated the economy and put millions out of work.

At the time Trump dismissed the threat, weeks’ worth of warning signs already had been raised. In the ensuing month, before Trum first addressed the crisis from the White House, key steps to prepare the nation for the coming pandemic were not taken.

Life-saving medical equipment was not stockpiled. Travel largely continued unabated. Vital public health data from China was not provided or was deemed untrustworthy. Urgent warnings were ignored by a president consumed by his impeachment trial and intent on protecting a robust economy that he viewed as central to his reelection chances.

On Feb. 10, Trump stood before thousands of supporters at one of his pep ralliies in New Hampshire rally and declared: “By April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away!"

The crowd roared its approval at Trump’s unproven assertion.

Trump had firmly linked his fate to Wall Street, and it took a tumble by the markets for Trump to ratchet up his response. In late February, the Dow Jones plummeted 1,000 points amid rising fears about the coronavirus.

Trump stewed about the collapse and lashed out at aides over comments made by a top CDC official, Dr. Nancy Messonnier, during a briefing the prior day, when she warned Americans that they would have to prepare for fairly severe social distancing:

“It’s not so much of a question of if this will happen anymore but
rather more of a question of exactly when this will happen.”
This was at the same time Trump was claiming he had the pandemic "under control" and that everybody was "getting better!"

On 1/14 the WHO said not to worry, their Chinese masters told them it wasn't contagious. Four days after Trump's statement, Fauci said the virus was very little threat to the US. Trump is supposed to listen to the expert, right?

Which may happen. On 2/17, Fauci was saying still our risk was minimal.

    The timeline isn't your friend.

Did you notice more studies coming out showing the Trump pill is saving lives? A good thing, right?

And FDR let Peral Harbor get bombed even though there were a number of indications in the intel that it would happen. FDR is a national hero because he lead America to victory during WWII, his mistakes early on have not tarnished that. Same thing with Lincoln and the start of the the Civil War.

Trump will be remembered as the POTUS who lead America successfully thru C19 with much much less death than predicted. That will carry positive momentum for him in Nov and afterwards.

Do you have any credible documentation for your claims? I agree that Trump was bamboozled by Xi and should not have kept praising him, He should have heeded the warning of his intelligence services. However, I can find no sources that attests to your stories.

As for Dr. Fauci, on February 16, he stated this: "The WHO wouldn't be calling this a global pandemic, but it certainly is on the verge of that happening reasonably soon unless containment is more successful than it is right now... we do not know what this particular virus is gonna do so. So we would think it would be a stretch to assume that it's going to disappear with the warm weather. We don't know that. It's completely unknown."

Trump worshipers are desperately trying to rewrite history, but there is an irrefutable record of what he said and when he said it.

    E.g.,
On March 6, Trump told reporters at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta that
    Screen Shot 2019-05-15 at 7.44.22 AM.png
“Anybody who wants a test gets a test!”

    • On March 5, Pence, had said “We don’t have enough tests today to meet what we anticipate will be the demand going forward” for coronavirus testing.

Lucky for FDR and America there weren't traitorous Republicans ankle biting him for every decision, and believe me, he made lots of wrong ones. The GOP didn't say every death was his fault.
