Why was the response of the Trump Regime to COVID-19 so feeble?

Here's one for Fauci worshippers, Trump was also bamboozled by him, from 2/17:

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...inuscule-skip-mask-and-wash-hands/4787209002/
"Fauci doesn't want people to worry about coronavirus, the danger of which is "just minuscule." But he does want them to take precautions against the "influenza outbreak, which is having its second wave."

"We have more kids dying of flu this year at this time than in the last decade or more," he said. "At the same time people are worrying about going to a Chinese restaurant. The threat is (we have) a pretty bad influenza season, particularly dangerous for our children."

Fauci offered advice for people who want to protect against the "real and present danger" of seasonal flu, which also would protect against the hypothetical danger of coronavirus."

He also said in the US, there was absolutely no reason for anyone to wear a mask.

Wasn't Trump supposed to listen to the 'experts'? Bear in mind this was over two weeks after Trump wisely restricted China travel, over the objections of Democrats.

Even the media was responsible back then. Unlike the ”attention whores” in the media today.

CNN is in full blown crisis now attacking Trump today On their website. It’s comical to read, sounds like ranting children who are not getting their way.

In your desperate attempt to exonerate Trump for all his fake statements that are well-documented, and relieve Trump of all responsibility, you pretended that Dr Fauci had said "the virus was very little threat to the US," that "our risk was minimal."

In fact, responsible, knowledgeable public servants like Fauci have consistently offered tentative, guarded assessments as understanding has accrued, in stark contrast to Trump's irresponsible, ignorant ravings from the git-go that have proven false.

You have been impotent in showing where Fauci had ever said what you claimed he said.

Fauci needs to learn to make a damn judgement and quit saying “we don’t know for sure” or “I can not guarantee that” to every question. If you are going to lead you have to make judgments calls at times. I’m not seeing where he is willing to do that. He is not the sinner or the saint some on each side paints
Him as but he is too vague with his answers to be a leader.

Why was the response so feeble?

Because it was an inside job?

Because the Trump administration is run by incompetents?

As of today, Britain has got a little more than half as many infected as does Italy and yet nearly two thirds as many deaths. Any comment in regards to how and why Britain so thoroughly screwed up and is mishandling the Coronavirus catastrophe in comparison to how Trump is actually doing a good job?

Can Democrats please explain why countries with UHC have a worse death/millions than we do? If Trump is doing so horrible and is so incompetent what does that say for most of EU?

Cmon kids. Be more consist with the hypocrisy please. Seems Trump has done quite an admirable job compared to just about everyone. Just look at the numbers that can’t possibly include everyone that has it, never tested and never needed to.

Maybe not as efficient as Japan or S.Korea, but they deal with these sorts of things on a far more regular basis and the society is set up so that they can be easily ordered to obey or face harsh punishments. A lot less freedom there.

Nice try, but asking the inherently irrational to be rational is never going to work. That's why I don't bother replying to generally hysterical or simply irrational leftists most of the time. They are going to rant and clutch their latest crop of political bullet points to their chest like precious pearls and never realize that most of the time their latest BELIEF runs counter to what they believed in only the week or month before.

Trump was way ahead, restricting travel from China in January.
Pelosi was inviting huge crowds to China Town on Feb 24
NYC was saying "Ride the Subways, Join the Crowds!" at the same time.

Anthony Fauci March 9: Sure, Go On A Cruise!

“Speaking at a White House press conference tonight to provide updates on the COVID-19 Coronavirus situation, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told reporters if you are healthy, there is no reason to eschew cruise vacations. ‘If you are a healthy young person, there is no reason if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship.'”

Watching the Fake News Folks, Some folks on the Left and some anti-Trumpers try to rewrite 60 day old "history" in the age of google demonstrates that they aren't very bright and that folks are wise not to trust them.
    • Spain is at 380 deaths per million
    • Belgium at 337
    • Italy at 338
    • France at 229
    • UK at 167
    • Netherlands at 165
    • US is at 71.

Yeap he should have forced the country in to self quarantine in early January and sent the senators home during the impeachment trial, that's what was going on. You guys crack me up can you imagine if he would have shut the government down will the dems were screaming impeach impeach, I'm certain you guys would have understood. Boy the dems sure want to forget early January for some reason. Reminds me of you guys ignoring the Biden's Ukraine timeline.

Are you unable to click a link? Feb. 17 Fauci said all those things. Sorry, you don't get to hold Trump accountable for his statements early in this fast changing crises while at the same time NOT holding the 'experts' Trump relied on for their early wrong statements. It doesn't work that way.

It is obvious why Trump's response was so feeble at the beginning: His 'gut feeling' was that the virus wasn't going to a big deal in the US; his focus was on making sure he could land political punches against his Democratic rivals, while keeping the stock market and economy from going down, to help with his reelection chances. Much of the rest of the arguments here are -- at least from my perspective --- either partisan sugar-coating and deflection in favor of Trump, or part of the partisan blame game against him.

    'Feeble'...

Try cautious. Shutting the economy down isn't a small thing. It leads to death and suffering as much as a virus does.
