Been to Shreveport and was not impressed even before the covid19. It was just depressing the whole city even when it was bustling.

The strange thing is you see very few homeless people in small towns. I have seen what looks like homeless passing through they may hang around but not where they are in public view.

Poorly dressed, backpack, or roller suitcase, filthy mask, and not in a hurry for anything. They own downtown Shreveport right now. If it wasn't for utility workers and security guards it would look like an episode of The Walking Dead. I only saw 1 kid the whole week.

Working in casinos is eye opening. Security is constantly running license plates and finding criminals and stolen cars. The Horseshoe Casino has thousands of cameras and they save all footage. Its not the casino that the public sees.

WE have about 5 people who wander the streets, but being a small town and a bit more able to extend a little charity, they all have someplace to sleep, if they want it. We know all of them by name too.. makes a difference.

Bringing in casinos didn't help Shreveport. I find it depressing to hear local players talk about how they've lost their businesses, wives, homes, etc... all because they can't stay out of casinos. I remember years ago when their only draw was horse racing. The city went downhill when casinos came in.

This is the main reason we don't have casino gambling in Texas. Good for tourism, bad for locals.

Made it to Friday but it's been a tough week. Not work, but every member of my family seemed to be surrounded by drama. Digging in today and refusing to play along. I need a day off. ;)

I've worked in dozens of casinos and have never gambled a penny in any of them. I figure that those places didn't get big and nice by giving money away. If you are smart and know what you are doing, you can make money there, but the learning curve is too steep and the odds are always in favor of the house unless you can count cards with multiple decks.

Riding an elevator with a bunch of showgirls and dealers isn't as glamorous as it sounds. They looked bored out of their minds.

I got to brag to my preacher once that I shut down the Horseshoe Casino. It was the first time since the place was built that the boat was shut down. They comped me a room and we scheduled the maintenance in the middle of the night to fix the problem. Really nice rooms!

Im not big on gambling. The two times I went to a casino both turned into disasters. No kidding.
We got bored at the casino. We went for a walk on the boardwalk and I got into a full blown argument with a gypsy woman who zeroed in on me and asked me to come in her tent for a reading. She got so pissed off at me when I called her a fraud, she threw me out of her tent and put a 'curse' on me on the way out lol. Second time we went to a different casino and I was watching people at the roulette table. I started being friendly with an older man who was explaining to me how the game worked. A short time later a few security guards (3) pulled me aside and told me to leave. Like I was trying to fleece the place or something. I was politely escorted out of the place.

I've stayed there and had a great time. Not a big gambler but my mom loved it and my 93 yo dad still plays the ponies. I have friends from Dallas who moved to Vegas 20 yrs ago and they've done fine. They play, but mostly at the Horseshoe where they won a car. When me and 4 friends met them for lunch while we were there, they treated with comps. Not to mention taking advantage of cheap food!

I would be worried about Vegas coming back, but as long as there's gambling, folks will return. There is a meme going around that says,

HEY VEGAS, HOW DOES LOSING FEEL?

Tourism is not such a good thing for some states. Look what has happened when there is a big draw for people and their money. The ecology is impacted, crime goes up and the state begins to look rundown. People call it progress.

I have gambled and won a little but overall lost more. Not on my list of priorities to lose money. I went to the dog races once and I got lucky and this man came up and asked me what was my strategy. I told him I just picked them out by their name and their wins. So he asked me what dog did I have picked out in the next race I told him. You can guess the rest the dog lost big time. He learned a valuable lesson don’t ask a novice gambler about their strategy. I earned a lesson too, don’t give advice when you don’t know what you are doing.

Never been to a fortune teller. Always curious just never had the nerve. I can hear my husband, “You did what?” Lol.. He is of the belief you make your luck and fortune.

True, that. One reason Vegas is so successful is because it's in the middle of nothing but desert. Hawaii is so popular because it's in the middle of nothing but water. Casinos in the middle of medium sized cities always attract addicted (to gambling) citizens... just like a new liquor store opening next door to an alcoholic. Never a good idea.

Saddest casino I've ever been in was in St Louis. Midweek, daytime visit on a break from a conference. Pitiful, depressing crowd and it smelled like a bus station. Even the view of the mighty Mississippi couldnt help that place. Nasty. :-(

I doubt I ever get to Nevada or Hawaii so my ideas of casinos will always be not a place for me.

Yeah, Vegas is like an adult Disneyland. Esp when compared to shabby riverboat or ridiculously giant Indian casinos in Oklahoma.

Got the ac running today. 87 and high humidity. Ugh.

Have you ever been to Atlantic City? I don’t want to stereotype, but the one and only time I was there the casinos were full of New Yorkers gambling the rent money away. I’m guessing they robbed a 7-11 on the way home to recoup their losses. One creepy place. It makes Vegas look like Mayberry.

I got a handle of wild turkey 101 for Christmas one year. Talk about crazy dreams. Clowns trying to eat me and crap. I swore off wild turkey after that. Well I finished the bottle then swore it off.

The casinos in OK do get some decent concerts. I took the Mrs. to see the Doobie Brothers a few years ago.

They're not shabby, just too big. Gfs took me to Winstar for my bday awhile back and the casino was so big, we spent half our time walking and looking for each other. I like to play Pai Gow Poker and they had a table labeled for game, but told me they had discontinued it. Most casinos don't even give you credit for playing Pai Gow because there are so many pushes, the house can't rape your wallet fast enough. Grrrr
