then open up and stop campaigning to keep the economy on hold. If you're right and people choose not to go out then you get to say "nani nani boo boo I told you so. You keep saying you won't let business open up and people go out because not enough people will go out. How about this, if it saves just one business....

Argentina? What's the stuff you're smoking?

We can cut the number of new cases without lockdowns.

Why would I do something that will kill more people and further damage the economy?
I'm not interested in proving I'm right over dead folks and a wrecked economy.
We can save many businesses Congress and LardButt are letting die by helping them through this rough patch. Some business types are likely to shrink even if we get a vaccine and/or effective treatments, and we can deal with them when we get up and running. Other businesses will spring back to life. Don't you think a lot of folks would love to dine out again? Will restaurants, clubs, bars, concerts, etc. be less popular if we get a cure or vaccine?

    This a-----e...

... only cares about getting reelected and he's trying desperately to get the economy back in gear before November. He won't succeed this way.

If there's a lot of COVID-19 around where you are, you're taking your chances.

If you were where I've chosen to ride this mess out, you could have your burger and not worry too much about getting sick.

Not worried at all, 80 deaths in my area, I avoided big cities long before this event. I visited 5 or 6 stores today, (gasp!)

I do love b.c., have made several trips there, most recently nanaimo (spelling?) And love Alberta as well. Banff and Jasper are just beautiful. Looking forward to going back next summer.

Of course, they're buying food, if they can afford it.
Take a close look at what people are willing to do...
    E96621CC-59B6-408A-990F-D7A4B892EF8F.jpeg

They're prepare to go to work and buy necessities, but not much else. Buy consumer durables? Nix on big ticket items. Buy clothes? No. Go shopping in a mall? About a third and I'd bet a lot of those who are live in communities with few new cases.

Google "British Columbia covid," "Australia covid," and "New Zealand covid" and see what those people are looking at and how they've been getting by. I'm riding this out in BC instead of Oregon because of the approach of the BC provincial and federal government in Canada.

The feds are working with the provinces who are all running their own action, just like the states here. The government of Canada is doing what only a national government can do--put enough money in the system to keep people fed, in their homes, and with a little money to spend.

Look at how few people are getting sick there--a handful per day and most are in known problem areas like food processing operations. The government moves in and tests, traces, and isolates, cutting off transmission. There is very little virus around, so I notice people are now holding back on getting grocery stores to deliver food. They go into the store and shop for themselves. Restaurants that had been delivering are opening up for dining in. Of course, everyone I know is hoping we'll get effective treatments or a vaccine. The unspoken plan is to hold on until we get a better idea of whether or not we'll all have our old lives back.

Yeah, and if your pals' docs say "Covid!" there must be a lot of weak knees. :(

You'd have to enter a supervised two-week quarantine, and at the moment the border will remain closed to all but essential.

Right now, there are no cases, day after day, on Vancouver Island, and almost none in Vancouver. Only the Fraser Valley has much going on and that's mostly in old folks' homes, prisons, food processing, and now a small outbreak at a regional hospital in Abbotsford.

All I said is that we could have more than 200,000 COVID-19 deaths. Considering we may have 100,000 or so deaths by June 1, I don't think talking about 200,000 is inflammatory.

Ah, don't think so. You and your pals are the ones who think dishonest doctors are faking death certificates.

You guys bring to mind the paranoid lefties I ran across who opposed the Vietnam War. I opposed the war, too, but I didn't go for the paranoia.

I'm not sure that would be a good idea. They were part of the Manhattan Project and have been able to make nuclear weapons since 1945. There is a lingering feeling they have nuclear weapons they haven't acknowledged.

I said we should have done it like British Columbia where there was no lockdown. All BC did was stop businesses from operating that were likely to spread the virus.

The government asked people to stay home as much as possible except to get out for exercise, or pick up items they need. The only thing police did was remind people to social distance. It was a big deal when the city government closed the municipal beaches when too many people weren't keeping their distance.

Would that be enough for you? You could go anywhere you want in British Columbia. Lots of stores were open. My meat market never missed a beat. We went to Home Depot, the garden store, and the car dealer.

The bars ("pubs" in BC) were closed. Clubs, theaters, restaurants for dining in, hair dressers, barbers, massage services, gyms... closed. Schools and universities closed briefly and then went online.

Does that come across as a lockdown? Nope.

That sounds like you copied the American system. Don't go to Home Depot but have been to Lowes a couple of times and ACE to get bird feeders and seed. Grocery stores are available but limited store occupancy. You see, all that freedom actually belongs to us, it isn't a commodity for the government to dole out if we are good little boys and girls. All businesses should be open and operating within health guidelines and their employees should be getting paid, not waiting for another govt. handout.

There is no state with a metropolitan area of 2.5m (Vancouver) that has a better record of dealing with COVID-19. Copy the US? No, hardly.
    Spare us the sermon.
You just don't get it. People aren't going to spend enough money to keep the economy going if they fear getting the virus.

BC beat down the virus without a lockdown.

An absurd claim. Canada has had a points system for more than fifty years, a model for Trump's proposed reforms.

So, Trumpkins, is Obama in jail yet?

No? And you want to avoid embarrassing questions like that, because they demonstrate how this conspiracy theory has faceplanted just as hard as every other one of your conspiracy theories?

    Imagine that.
