Was the firing at the request of the Sec of State who was under investigation by said IG?

 

The IG himself was under investigation previously for mishandling information and Obama didn’t even have an IG in that position for four years.

In 2014, 47 of the nation's 73 inspector generals signed a letter that Obama had stonewalled their "ability to conduct our work thoroughly, independently, and in a timely manner.

The Silencing of the Inspectors General

The frustrated nonpartisan auditors cited systematic Obama administration refusals to turn over incriminating documents that were central to their investigations.

The administration had purportedly tried to sidetrack an IG investigation into possible misconduct by then-Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson. In addition, the Obama administration reportedly thwarted IG investigations of Amtrak, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Troubled Asset Relief Program and the Office of Management and Budget.

Despite the campaign against these independent federal auditors, a number of inspectors general still managed to issue damning indictments of unethical behavior.

In 2012, Horowitz recommended that 14 Justice Department and ATF officials be disciplined for their conduct in the "Fast and Furious" gun-walking scandal.

A 2013 IG audit found that the IRS had targeted conservative groups for special scrutiny prior to the 2012 Obama re-election effort.

In 2014, an internal audit revealed that CIA officials had hacked the Senate Intelligence Committee's computers while compiling a report on enhanced interrogation techniques. CIA Director John Brennan had claimed that his agents were not improperly monitoring Senate staff computer files. He was forced to retract his denials and apologize for his prevarication.

In 2016, the State Department's inspector general found that Hillary Clinton had never sought approval for her reckless and illegal use of an unsecured private email server. The IG also found that staffers who were worried about national security being compromised by the unsecured server were silenced by other Clinton aides.

Obama ran one of the most corrupt administrations since Nixon. No one made a peep. If you argued with Obama on policy or called him out on skirting around the rule of law multiple times, then "racist".

 

So lots of findings by IGs that the Obama administration didn’t follow the rules. Good for those IGs.
But many on this thread - including you? - seem to think it’s ok for Trump to get rid of any IGs that criticise his administration. Can you imagine what would have happened if half the federal IGs signed a letter like they did under Obama? Trump would call them deep state and his supporters would call for them to be fired.

Three days later, Tim Morrison, former senior director for counterproliferation and biodefense on the NSC, wrote in another Washington Post Op-Ed, “It is true that the Trump administration has seen fit to shrink the NSC staff. But the bloat that occurred under the previous administration clearly needed a correction. … One such move at the NSC was to create the counterproliferation and biodefense directorate, which was the result of consolidating three directorates into one, given the obvious overlap between arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. It is this reorganization that critics have misconstrued or intentionally misrepresented. If anything, the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled” ( here ).

On March 14, 2020, John Bolton described the changes made to the team as streamlining. He tweeted: “Claims that streamlining NSC structures impaired our nation's bio defense are false. Global health remained a top NSC priority, and its expert team was critical to effectively handling the 2018-19 Africa Ebola crisis. The angry Left just can't stop attacking, even in a crisis.”

 

No corruption in the Obama administration. The trump administration is MORE corrupt than Nixon and not a peep out of Republicans.

The rationale given for Walpin’s firing was particularly vicious. Obama officials accused Walpin of senility, stating the former I.G. was “confused” and “disoriented” at a meeting the month prior to his firing.
