I think I'll be proven right.... he's a beaten man

He said Trump's reasoning, as it stands, "simply is not sufficient."....Ohhhhh... Scary......

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/gops-grassley-says-trumps-reasoning-115001578.html

Well, why don't you "simply do something about it", as a lead member of the former GOP??

He's 86... cannot see any way he's returned to the Senate in 2022...

Yeah?? So what?? He said the same thing about Atkinson last month....

He's a paper toothless obsolete endangered tiger...

All this "Yes Mr. Trump" and "No Mr. Trump"... Sad to see somebody literally lose their self respect in front of the country...

    2. Pompeo sells arms to SA anyways.
    3. IG begins to looks into sale by Pompeo in violation of law.
    4. Pompeo asks Trump to fire IG
    5. Trump fires IG.

I was thinking about those 5 items... I thing #4 is the worst by far.. It's one thing for Trump Baby to randomly fire (ask Stormy), but it's quite another for the department head asking to get his department IG fired for no reason.

But Congress will sit back and do nothing, as usual...

That ongoing fact is partially what will put old Joe in the seat....

What would he need to pay you that for? Socialist now, are you? That didn't take long. One payment from the government in exchange for taking your freedom and you are positively card carrying!

    Let me guess... public schools?

The President is entitled to the fullest confidence in his IG's and President no longer has “the fullest confidence” in IG Linick.

The entire institution of inspector general is constitutionally suspect, to say the least. An IG works in the executive branch, and is therefore subordinate to the president, yet reports to Congress. This is a hybrid that flouts separation-of-powers principles. Predictably, it has deleterious effects. Congress has become too dependent on the in-house IG at executive departments and agencies, atrophying its oversight muscles. The existence of the IG makes it harder for department and agency leadership to deal swiftly with misconduct. And because the IG answers to dual constituencies in political minefields, IG reports often suffer from on-the-one-hand-but-on-the-other-hand syndrome.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/05/trump-removes-the-state-department-inspector-general/

The Trump administration reports that Linick was insufficiently aggressive in investigating the State Department’s role in promoting the bogus reporting of Christopher Steele, the former British spy and primary author of the Democrat-sponsored “dossier” that the Obama administration peddled to the FISA court and on Capitol Hill, while the Clinton campaign peddled it to the media.

The president’s capacity to govern has been damaged by heinous allegations that have turned out to be either baseless or greatly exaggerated; IGs have contributed to that damage.

A general lack of confidence is entirely sufficient detail to satisfy the Constitution. Article II makes the president the sole custodian of executive power. He does not need any reason to remove an executive-branch political appointee.

IG positions are politicized. They are designed that way, and the party out of power has always relied on IGs as a vehicle for addling the White House.

All of the indignation over the removal of the State Department’s IG would be much more impressive if the same pols had squawked about President Obama’s failure to appoint a State Department IG during the notoriously ethics-challenged Hillary Clinton’s tenure as secretary.

That's not the point. If you've been hired for a specific set of duties, you cannot legally be asked to do something which falls outside of that set of duties.

It's the 21stC. It's been at least 20 years since you could impose random BS on your flunkies.

    Let me guess...sibling parents?

First, I said at the outset that I don't care to debate the President's authority to fire the IG in this thread. Frankly that is going to come down to a matter of opinion. And although mine is right it will be harder for me to shame you into believing I'm right because it is ultimately subjective. The low hanging fruit here is the optics of the situation. That's why I asked about the political consequences of this action.

These facts are not in dispute. Linick was investigating Trump's Secretary of State. Trump fired him--on Pompeo's recommendation according to Fox News' source. The optics of that are terrible. And you're willing to ignore this blatant scandal on the basis that you don't like the idea of IGs to begin with. But Trump isn't doing away with IGs. Indeed, he's appointing a political ally to Linick's old post. He's only doing away with IGs that happen to do their job. He's sending a message: mess with my cabinet and I'll fire you.

That's because you don't understand that having those personal errands done for you on taxpayer dollars is illegal. Pompeo should hire a personal assistant if he's too busy to do these things.

    WE'VE GOT A WINNER!!!!

I was waiting for someone dumb to fall for this trap. Did you happen to see that the article was from Fox News? I know reading is hard, but give it a shot.

Well, it's great that you can read, now try making some sense. Shouting "FOX NEWS!" doesn't substitute for a well crafted point.

In one sentence: State your position.
