I can't understand why and how people whose knowledge and critical thinking skills I admire on other topics, seem to completely lose control of said skills in certain circumstances, clinging for dear life to the Soviet-inspired image of the Zionist monster raising its Palestinians eating head.

Let's start, as the political left loves to tell their ideological opponents, with facts. Please tell me more about the Palestinians: ethnicity, culture, history, historiography, mythical heroes, acclaimed past leaders, socio-economic relations with other nations throughout history. Most of all though, I'd like very much an explanation why would a nation adopt for themselves and their country a name given by foreigners, a name they're not able to pronounce.

Do you deny Lloyd George and Balfour were antisemites?
Do you deny Christian Zionists are antisemetic since they believe that Jews will either convert or die when their god returns?
Do you deny that it was christian antisemitism which has existed for 2000 years which contributed to the terrible genocide that was the Holocaust?

That is partly partly partly true.. so are many other countries .. Egypt, even UNRWA and the Palestinians recieved US handouts.

 

Well if it was, you would need to say why. Otherwise your words are maningless.

However I will grant that to you personally it may be that it is creating 'God's' will. Then it would be that the Palestinians have had to pay for 'God's will' with their lives and homeland.

There are unproven premises in the post I replied to. The rest is irrelevant unless you can prove those premises.

The Jewish state survived despite an American embargo on arms exports to the Middle East in 1948 (at the request of Her Majesty's wonderful government, you know, the mandatory power that was supposed to help Jews settle in Palestine), while the Arabs were being armed, trained, and led by the British. The US didn't see Israel as a friend and ally until the beginning of the 70s, when Israel was the only country in the world to help Jordan against the PLO and Syria at the request of the US. Israel survived nevertheless.

Thank you for not arguing that Israel survives on US handouts, what Isreal did to survive prior to 1970 was not part of the discussion. Nor are your inaccuracies in the above.

 

What matters is what american politicians get from supporting Israel and they get elected. The american public overwhelmingly supports Israel and very few people could get elected unless they were seen to be supporting Israel. The largest, most powerful supporters of Isreal in the US are the evangelical Christians who for the reasons I have already stated are anti semetic.

 

I remind you your post:

Unproven premise number one: a non-Jewish Palestinian nation existed at the time of the advent of Zionism.

Unproven premise number two: Christian Zionists played a significant role in the advent of Zionism and the establishment of Israel.

There is of course a third implied unproven premise: Jews wouldn't have thought to return to Palestine if a bunch of antisemites wouldn't have thought of it for them, which is of course completely false. And a fourth, now that I think of it, that only European Jews wished to live in Palestine.

 

There's no point in bickering over the bigger picture until the finer details are well known. It's quite clear from your post that the finer details are still a mystery to you.

Israel survived in a more hostile world without American help, that was my point. We could probably go on surviving without it.
