I am not blaming the woman in this video. I haven't been paying attention to the covid employment benefits rollout but I had assumed the way it worked was the additional 600 / week was to help people earning around $40k or more maintain their current level or lifestyle. I was obvious the previous amount of $350 / week was well below that threshold. I assume the way it would work is they would pay you UP TO an addition 600 / week BUT not to exceed your current income. That way more middle class worker could maintain their current lifestyle. From this video it seems like they are just giving EVERYONE an additional 600 / per week regardless of their previous income. I hope I am wrong but if this is true, this is exactly why I don't trust government to do anything right. Is it because math is too hard for these people to calculate how much of the 600 it takes to top up the person to their current income level?

Rich folks are making way too much and borrowing too much at zero percent but let us pick on the non-rich...

Give the government a break! They are using COBOL programming language from 40 years ago. They aren't going to make complicated calculations go through their machines. :)

You obviously misunderstood (or misinterpreted) something that you read.

    (You, obviously, "assumed" incorrectly).

Everybody was well aware that an extremely high number of people would be making MORE on Unemployment (once they added the extra $600/wk).

This was extensively discussed in Congress before the bill was even passed.

There are cases where people who made $200/wk (working part time) got well over $700/wk on unemployment.

It is slated to end by August 1st.

Definitely, a nice gravy train (while it lasts).

Yes, you are right. I didn't pay attention to this when the bill was passed. I just assumed it would be a "No Brainer" for lawmakers to not pay people make on unemployment than they do working their job.

It’s all so despicable. What a waste of money. Wish our leaders had common sense.

Problem is the huge variance n living expenses across the country.

It would have been very hard to come before the American people and say, "OK, were going to give the people living
in metropolitan areas $900 a week to cover their higher living costs and the rural areas $300 a week - there would have been riots.

So I can see why they had to settle on a middle ground, and that meant a number of people would be making more
    than the did while employed.

A perfect solution? No. An attempt during a very difficult time? Yes.

And it’s temporary, it’s not like it’s going to encourage people to not work long term.

Some Democrats were trying to get the extra $600/wk extended, but that is DOA.

I agree with the you that there could have been more nuance in how the extra money was distributed.

    That is an excellent point.

However, such calculations would have made it more difficult to get the money out (quickly) so they settled on the blanket $600 amount.

Another change was that people who had only worked for a few weeks (or had been offered a job and hadn't even started) were eligible under PUA.

And (as expected) untold millions of fraud has emerged/is emerging

Pelosi and Schumer are doing extraordinary damage to this country.

Pelosi: Stay at home, we'll pay you.
Also Pelosi: Trump is ruining the economy.

As long we we allow people like this to sit in government, the country will be in serious trouble.

Schumer voters in NY, and Pelosi's voters in her District are free to vote them out at any time.
That ALSO applies to People like TRUMP?

    Agreed.:salute:

Regardless of where the home districts are, they are doing extraordinary damage to the country. I don't care about their districts because but I do care about the thoughtless and horrible bills they are floating that affect eveythign in the country.

They are a disgrace and they are why most of the country is suffering. They are liars and inflict great destruction on the people.

Trump signed off on the unemployment benefits. I know it's fun for you to pretend that Trump isn't a part of the government, but the reality is that the buck stops with him - he could have vetoed the spending bill. He didn't.
