"Came from" does not necessarily mean the last location or the first location. It is however it is used at the time.

I am not sure what argument you are trying to win, but the virus came from China. It might have passed trough other locations before it got to wherever it is, but at some time it came from China. It possibly came from somewhere else to China depending on whether they consider mutations of the virus to be the same virus since we are seeing mutations of Covic-19 in the US.
