I had a pretty good idea. The question will be if these far left wingers who live at home still, will leave the far left if they move out and get jobs. Or will they fail and end up homeless? This issue lays bare the fact that conservatives and liberals live in alternate universes. (The reason we cannot have rational conversations.). The OP creator took a story of a specific group in Berlin Germany. Saying 92% still live with their parents is not really the insult the OP author envisioned. It does not take a lot of research to see that most protestors tend to be young. A lot of high school and college aged people. Age groups that typically live with their parents. Thus the OP can take a group of “students protesting” and turn it into “people who live with their parents protesting”. While factually correct, it is highly deceptive. Especially to those who don’t think about it much. It works also, because that has long been one of those memes that get passed around from conservative to conservative, something that Ring wing talking heads push on a somewhat regular basis. That liberals live in their parents basement, play video games, and live off of the public dole. Kind of goes along with the one that says college graduates end up working in coffee shops. The OP then takes the meme assisted deceptive story line and conflates it with Portland. Portland has been a favorite target since the elder Bush’s presidency, when he referred to Portland as Little Beirut for protesting against his war on Iraq. But then Portland is a public participatory kind of place. The people tend to be highly politically attuned and publicly vocal. After Trump was elected president, a few violent right wing groups began to harass and attack iconic liberal strongholds. The larger attacks were against Berkeley. There was one such group, Patriot Prayer, who hailed from Camas Washington, who made it their mission to make Portland look like a violent dysfunctional place. Patriot Prayer describes themselves as Christian Nationalists. Most of their members have criminal records. Their leader, Joey Bishop, had gone to prison for armed robbery. Mostly they held rallies intent on provoking locals to violence. When Patriot Prayer held their first big rally, thousands of Portlanders showed up to counter protest, many of them shouting the slogan, “Hate, not in our town!” But the right wing media only talked about the anti fascists who scuffled with Patriot Prayer. It soon became one of those conservative memes, violent left wing antifa violently stopping free speech, or something like that. It got to be a regular occurrence, violent right wing groups, led by Patriot Prayer, and often Including the Poor Boys, and those who wave Confederate and Nazi flags. It was after one of the violent right wing members attacked and killed two men on the mass transit train, that things began to change. The police began to pick up counter protestors on minor misdemeanor and violation charges, leading many to accuse the police of right wing bias. Yet the police knew who the real trouble makers were and soon enough members of Patriot Prayer were being arrested and charged with felonies. Soon enough and the violence ended. Fact of the matter is, Portland is a rather peaceful place, with a low crime rate, with the murder rate like a tenth of the national average. Yet through a series of deceptive memes there are conservatives on the far side of the country who talk as if they are convinced that Portland is much worse than the place they live. (Note that there are very few trailer parks in the Portland area. There are more homeless in Oklahoma City and Pensacola Florida.
