I think most of us would just laugh. Most guns are in the closet in our homes, and they'd need warrants to enter homes.

I'm not sure that they can't get to the same place by banning ammo instead. Then I guess you'd have little smelters pop up in the country and make bullets under the radar. By the time the nonsense worked it's way through the courts, we'd have legally purchased ammo up to the ceilings.

But I can't even imagine Sotomayor finding such legislation constitutional.

And I should have said above that the 2nd amendment is repealed, though they'd need to repeal the 4th as well to be able to enter homes and start confiscating guns.

Because blacks, who only represent less than 13% of our total population, commit 52% of the total murder in our country.

Islamophobic rhetoric is a common deflection from talk of US gun deaths as is the very small increase in drug gang-related fatal stabbings in London.
Since our handgun ban, it has been perfectly safe to send our children to school and we haven't had a school shooting in over 20 years. I wish you could say the same.

You really call all these teenagers and barely 20 year olds that shoot up schools and shopping malls White Nationalist? Hell, the majority of them can’t even spell white nationalist. I call them rejected youngsters with little to no self worth who think becoming an internet sensation by shooting up schools and shopping malls is the way. Social media made it so important to have likes, followers, retweets, thumbs up etc. You can place 100% of the blame on the ever declining importance of family values.​

 

No, we have a criminal violence problem. The minute any person commits a crime with a gun, they are a criminal regardless of color. Singling out criminals by skin color is a small minded method. Acknowledging that those who use guns to instigate a crime is a criminal is the fact of the matter.

 

On the plus side no one here gets murdered with a sword in broad daylight like the UK.

I was going to remind him that we Americans revolted against his government when they tried to take our firearms, firing the shot heard round the world, and then resoundly defeated them. That a militia, the private citizenry prepared to bear arms in the face of a threat, being necessary to a free state thing it is necessary and vital that the citizens be privately armed and training in those arms should be not only be urged but I would make the case subsidized by the state governments. I don't think he has much standing nor ground on which to take make on this subject.

I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt thinking he was just being ignorant of the PF rules. I understand why the Aussies come here, i.e., every day is a slow day down under, but one would think the Brits would actually have their own political issues to focus on.

 

To my mind it is irrelevant whether it is deaths by suicide, accident or homicide. All will be dramatically reduced. if guns are not available.

The Bill of Rights was written at a time before the US had an organized police force and when wild animals posed a far greater threat.

The Connecticut primary school massacre in which 20 kids were not just shot, but blown apart by a high velocity semi automatic rifle owned by the 20yr old shooters mother, a teacher at the school beggars belief. No doubt she was persuaded that her best defence against crime was to hold a mass of lethal weapons. Fat lot of good it did her.
