This seems crazy. Would you do something like this? I don't see how you could avoid the police driving this fast:

These reckless scumbags broadcast their intentions to put peoples lives at risk and then they live stream the proof. I don't understand why law enforcement hasn't taken them down. Given what they're doing the charges should go well beyond speeding and be something more like a single count of attempted murder for each car they pass at high speed given the callous premeditate endangerment. I also don't understand why social media allows their videos.

I've never participated in the race, but I've participated in the party at the finish line. Redondo Beach, CA is my home town.

I'm guessing, and I remember rumors ... the State Police in several of the states they go through are very aware of the run and unless one is seriously nuts and reckless, they look the other way. It would not surprise me if many of the participants are police themselves.

I do have just the car for it ... small, powerful, not the best straight line speed but I lose them in the mountains, no problem. Negative camber, corners like it's on rails. Really fun to drive!

Okay, Debbie Downer, point taken. But going really fast is fun, and you can't spell fun without F U !!!

And btw, before you ask, my driving record is clean and I've never caused an accident in the decades (since 1968) that I've been driving. Been hit, but never did the hitting.

Maybe my idea of fun is starting fires. Can I come start some fires that would endanger you or the people you love? C'mon man, you wouldn't want to be a Debbie Downer now would you? Real racers, car enthusiasts and alike, take it to the track. Wannabe punks who've seen F&F too many times tear ass down public roads risking lives and sometimes taking them. **** these people and anyone else who drives like they do.

I'm with you if we can also apply that to drunk drivers.

    I'm guessing alcohol is involved.

I've never put anyone's life in danger. Not even my own.

Reckless drivers do, everyday. They are a greater threat to anyone than violent crime, by and large if not outright. Especially pedestrians, cyclist and motorcyclist.

I don't know about that. Check these cannonball type people out on youtube they aren't just your average heavy footed punk they're talented drivers with teams of mechanics and support people racing in highly modified cars. I saw a video tour of this one dudes car and it had enough GPS and counter-detection tech in there to rival a military vehicle. Which is why this boggles my mind. These people aren't just hobbyists they're professionals with sponsors that operate their teams as actual businesses. If anything they should be even easier to catch and shut down than some solo rando.

If I read the article about the million mile battery correctly only 200,000 miles are actually achieved in a Tesla the reminder is as a part of a battery block which will be used to power offices and residences as an alternative to conventional polluting power generation??? How that adds to miles baffles me.

Pretty sad that cops would be involved in something so hazardous to public safety, but not entirely surprising.

There's a history here, and it does not include deadly accidents. The current event is not sponsored as the early 70s races were.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannonball_Baker_Sea-To-Shining-Sea_Memorial_Trophy_Dash#Legacy

    Under "C2C Express Event" --

"Amongst the final event was a team of police officers in a 49 Pontiac ..."

No deaths, and no accidents or injuries to non-participants.

"... in 1972 an all-female team of Peggy Niemcek, Judy Stropus, and SCCA racer Donna Mae Mims ("The Pink Lady") suffered a crash near El Paso, Texas, resulting in a DNF (Did Not Finish). Mims explains that their Cadillac stretch limousine veered off the road and rolled over after the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Although the car was destroyed and she suffered a broken arm, no other vehicles were involved in the crash. This was the only serious accident in the official Cannonball races."

I once averaged about 120 mph going from Sacramento to Long Beach, Ca, [about 500 miles] but that was in the dead of night and mostly on a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair, warm smell of colitas rising up through the air...

Thank goodness I never got pulled over. The colitas was a dead bust.

Racing should only be done on a closed course. Having raced motorcycles, I couldn't imagine racing on public roads.
