To a large extent you replied as though I wrote the article. I didn't, so I'm not prepared to defend every word. My apologies for that. I do want to acknowledge your admirable efforts in replying and your apparent willingness to actually read the piece completely.

The other comment I wanted to make was that I find your reference to Dems as being comparable to Mao as ridiculous as it is indefensible. Mainstream Dem proposals like a system of healthcare closer to a nationalized system, similar to ones proposed by Nixon and implemented by Romney in MA, does not put us on the same plain as a dictator like Mao.

The gist of the article is not to compare Trump to Hitler but rather to point out how the beliefs adopted by the POT are factually unfounded. And, how dangerous it is for that circumstance to have been normalized.

You didn't write it... well thats dissapointing. I recomend using "_"s.

I don't think the left is Mao any more than the right is Hitler. I was merely relaying the comparison as it was told to me. I don't think they thought either was Mao or Hitler either, but those are the two most commonly recognizable figures that illustrate the general point- a lot of folks think both are bad but get railed on just for picking a side.

It's possible to lump all the whataboutisms and deflections away from Don's endless failures and corruption in to one category. One I'll call BHS..............But Hillary Syndrome. It could as easily be called BOS.

The overriding goal being, never admit a mistake, never accept responsibility for failure, never acknowledge the facts, never compromise, view all criticism.......no matter its validity.......as an attack.

Your source of this nuttiness about Fox viewers believing Bill Gates is trying to microchip them is a YouGov poll, which...is not a poll, it's an online survey which is, shall we say, self selected. Sorry but online "polls" just are not legitimate polls.

But...let's say it really was a real poll. Wouldn't the next step be to count how many Fox News stories actually said that Gates was intending to microchip folks? If they ran even ONE story stating that, I would think that would be big news in itself.

In other words, this BS as usual.

I usually do. I assumed that would be evident when reading the article since the passage I quoted was a few paragraphs in.

May I ask what collectivist hell you were referring to when writing........"express elevator to veiled-collectivist hell that the left has been representing lately."

Wait, never mind. Once I go down that road the thread will get hopelessly off topic. Perhaps another time.

Correction: Being a "Republican" does not require belief in any conspiracies. Being a Trumpinista requires such belief.

Started 60 years ago when Republicans implemented their Southern Strategy. As we moved into the 80s Republican leadership realized that the new recruits weren't all that bright and would believe almost anything and incorporate it into their ideology as long as the information came from a "trusted source." This not only allowed the party to build an ideological following among those who shared absolutely no Republican ideology but allowed for the recruitment of others who fell outside the Southern Strategy but could still be trusted to vote R as long as the Rs made sure these people had their seat at the table.

Of course, these people had no seats at any table.

Then the recruits reached critical mass in many locations. This started, of course, with McCain's ill advised selection of Sarah Palin as his VP candidate. The nuts finally got their seat at the table. The Kochs figured they could take advantage of Obama's election by secretly creating and financing the Tea Party movement. What the Koch's didn't take into account was that the fringes had figured out the primaries. It's just math.

Need 50%+ 1 to win the general and generally about 65% vote there.
Need 50%+1 to win the primary where about 1/3 of the people vote.
In heavily Republican districts, made more so following redistricting, it soon became possible to win a congressional seat with only about 6% of actual voter support.

    1/3 of people are Republicans
1/3 of people vote in Primaries
    1/2 of general to win.
    1/3 * 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/18 = <6%.

All they had to do was primary the incumbent in heavily Republican districts.

So Republicans, conservative or not, were primaried out. Those who were left learned to toe the line or be primaried out.

Look at everyone who, say, uses the term "Rino" to describe a Republican who will not toe the line. To a person you will find they have a issue that drives them: guns, abortion, immigration, race...and on to the conspiracy nuts, the anti-vaxers, the Soros haters, One World Order, and on and on.

These people not only have their seat at the table, they're running the show.

Unfortunately, a conspiracy theory is not a replacement for policy. These people have no concept of how to govern and no idea who should govern. So, in their confusion, they turn to a fellow nut whose sole qualification is a twitter account and his time on tv.

Not to put words in his mouth, but I assume the point the author was making is Faux tends to have a viewership that's prone to believing in baseless conspiracy theories. Not necessarily that Faux was the source for this one.

Is Bill Gates linked to the outbreak?
In connection with the Pirbright Insitute conspiracy, some people have attempted to link the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the outbreak, due to a multi-million dollar grant given to the research group by the foundation.
However, this is what Teresa Maughan, a spokesperson for Pirbright, told Buzzfeed News when asked about the connection:
“The patented work cited in the conspiracy theories involved infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) only, and we made four changes in the gene responsible for replicating the virus’s genetic material.
“This has weakened the virus so it is no longer able to cause disease and has potential to be used as a vaccine, but has not yet been developed.
“The patented work was completed in 2015 and is not funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.”
The funding does nothing to prove, or even suggest, that the Gates Foundation knew about the coronavirus outbreak in advance or played a role in causing it.

The author gave plenty of other examples of beliefs with no factual basis. Please don't pretend you can discount them all because you refuse to accept the result of a poll you prefer to call a survey. That would be disingenuous. Something I know you wish to avoid because I'm sure you posted on this thread with the intent of making an informed, respectful argument.

    So........to all you Trump fans..........please.........someone...........begin.

IMO, the only reason the choice of $arah Paylin was possible was because the seeds for allowing cult-like behavior had been planted years before. She was a stepping stone to the full out batshyte craziness of Trump.

Just go to the search function here at PoliticalForum and enter “Gates”. You will be greeted with a list of threads detailing just such things. All begun by conservative posters about a month ago.

As I said, this isn't a poll. As far as an actual poll regarding a conspiracy theory...

More than half of Democrats believed Bush knew

"How likely is it that people in the federal government either assisted in the 9/11 attacks or took no action to stop the attacks because they wanted the United States to go to war in the Middle East?" the poll asked.

A full 22.6% of Democrats said it was "very likely." Another 28.2% called it "somewhat likely."

That is: More than half of Democrats, according to a neutral survey, said they believed Bush was complicit in the 9/11 terror attacks.

Now that was poll ( real one, not an online survey) that makes half of the Democrats in the country look like full fledged loons.

    Now are they?

I would say no, due to the particularities of the way (in the US anyway) conspiracy theories seem to work.

If your intention is to show that most Republicans believe that Bill Gates wants to implant microchips in us, you are going to need to do better than this. For such a conspiracy theory to be widespread in the GOP you would think there would be someone actually talking about it. So...which Republican in the House or Senate is advocating this? Which GOP governor? Which Fox host? Hell, which OAN host? I mean if you believe that the this online survey represents reality, you would think we would see more evidence outside this survey.

I actually did that, and failed to find it.

So, since you apparently did find posts by conservative posters detailing how Bill Gates was going to microchip us, could you show a few?

I find it particular interesting that news stations like CNN, NBC and CBS has over 90% negative coverage on Trump when he has accomplished this. Just before this virus, we had more people working than at anytime in our history. Blacks and Hispanics had the lowest unemployment in their history. Stock market was the highest in it's history. He ended the longest war in our history. Brought back manufacturing when Obama and economist said they were gone and not coming back. Rose wages higher in his first year than Obama had in all of his eight years in office. Fixed the VA when Obama and Bush couldn't. But according to the clueless Left, and bias news, he did nothing.

Lets talk about climate change. Most Republicans believe the climate is getting hotter. What many don't believe is that it's mostly human fault instead of natural climate change. Holes drilled deep into the earth and ice has shown that the climate on earth has changed constantly over the years. Earth look much different years ago than it does now. We have found dinosaur bones in the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico. They have found sea shells in the deserts of Egypt. So we know of climate change. We believe it's happening, we just don't know what is causing it. Even so, we haven't given up fighting it. We still are building solar power plants, solar homes. We still are building wind, water nuclear power. All the auto makers are building electric cars. GM is converting all their vehicles to electric. We even test flighted an electric plane. But no matter what we do it will be for not if other nations don't follow suit. Pollution recognizes no borders and China is building hundreds of coal power plants all over the globe. Going crazy trying to fight it by ruining our economy doesn't make a bit of sense. Scientist have said one of the best and easiest ways to fight climate change is planting millions of trees.

We know that tens of thousands of people have invaded our border. Caravan after caravan has come up. Pictures have been shown of people coming up. Hardly any of them are carrying cloths, suitcases. We see busses bringing thousands up and food trucks following these people. Who is paying for this? Most of these people are flat broke so someone is financing it. We know that Liberal George Soros is pushing more people here and in Europe. But it's crazy to think that someone isn't pushing it. Why are the Democrats all of a sudden wanting to open our borders to illegals? Before Trump, every one of the leaders of the Democratic Party was saying this was bad. Illegals take away jobs from our blue collar workers. The hold down wages and put a strain on our welfare. Now Joe Biden says if he gets elected, he will bring in two million people. We have a lot of Blue cities and states given sanctuary to illegal criminals and want to do away with ICE, who are catching these criminals along with thousands of gang members.

We own 46 acres of woods. There is no more room for any more trees. We are doomed for sure.
