The face mask bashing has begun. Soon to be physical bashing of elderly and vulnerables.

They don't even need to go to the media or government website to get the information. I can't count the number of posts here at PF that have explained the purpose of the mask - to protect others and not one's self. But I suppose it is further proof that people only read or listen to that which supports their narrative. So, carry on!

Well, we can look forward to a packed GOP convention, where attendees wearing face masks will be ridiculed. Survival of the fittest. Let's see how fit these GOP Senators really are. We can sort out the Darwin awards later.

    So, I read this thread.

    That was a mistake.

Some of the saddest, most stupid commentary I have ever read can be found on this sad thread. This kind of commentary is not going to be blowing the bell curve.

Hey, ya'll, think of all those truly stupid, stupid, stupid dumbassed American soldiers in WWI who were stupid because THEY WORE MASKS, right?

Damn, a number of people here need to get a grip. By ridiculing this stuff, you are also trashing OUR OWN MILITARY. Hope you are proud of yourselves.

Wearing a mask is not a 100% guarantee that you won't get a virus, but it does slow the transmission of air particles, especially the particles coming out of the mouth of the mask-wearer, including the microscopic aerosoles, thus reducing the chances of transmission. People who think that mask-wearers are somehow now leftist whackos really, really, really need to reach deep down into their souls and realize how ****ing stupid this premise is. And you know, the person who ends up saving your life from a deadly disease will probably be wearing - A MASK.

For those who hit ding-ding-ding up to the 1000th-percentile on the moron-scale, a helpful message: wearing a mask during a pandemic is NOT a political thing, it's not a 1st amendment thing (you do NOT have the right to endanger other people, so screw that right there), it's a public health thing.

This has to be repeated a 1000 times over.

I think the time for respectful discussion is over. It is time to call out the morons for the morons they are. And that starts with the top moron in the WH. I never thought I would say this, but Tillerson called it early on.

    Probably not.

I live in a Red area of Purple Virginia and the Righties in these parts don't care if you wear a mask or not - it's your decision.

It's Lefties who have been Nazis about this, and I've noticed that some of them have been phony, sanctimonious hypocrites on top of that, too:

Yes, the tiny micron size particle and aerosol size particles.

From research I've seen, bandana's stop next to nothing. Large visible particles, that's about it. Most of the viral particles are not visible to the naked eye. From what I've read.

    You have data stating otherwise?

I am no where close to a supporter of tRUMP.
The homemade cloth masks and bandana's, do next to nothing to stop virus particles.

I've said this countless times in a few threads. No one has said any different to me yet.
If you have data showing the protective measures of cloth masks that state they are effective, post the data.

I think if you read my post again, I was talking about the purpose of the mask - not the efficacy.

Tillerson, for all of his weird faults, was right no target about this.

These articles do not support your claim of mask bashing and soon to be physical bashing. one article talks about a joke that Trump told about wearing an individual wearing a mask, but the joke was misrepresented by the Intercept. The joke was that the person called up on stage had a "Trump 2020" mask that he had shown the President before the dog and pony show started. He was asking this person to show the mask to those present. This had nothing to do with why the VP and the President has chosen the not to wear masks in public. The other two articles had to do with a tweet by Brett Hume. These did not reflect articles did not reflect a single comment that could reasonably be considered bashing, and definately has nothing to do with physical assaults. Additionally, they do not claim that the President has called anyone a coward or that they are scared if they choose to wear a mask. His reasoning, as stated in one of the articles, for not wearing a mask is that it did not look Presidential, and would hurt him on the campaign trail.

We also have to remember that there has been multiple statements be the health organizations. Originally, the WHO and the CDC, has said that wearing a mask in public was not recommended. They later changed their recommendation, but still has not presented any evidence that masks will keep a healthy, uninfected, person from getting COVID-19. The WHO is standing by their recommendation that masks should be reserved for those that are sick, or are caring for a sick person.

The state of Virginia has instituted a policy that everyone wear a mask in public places unless you are eating. Frankly, I have been doing this since March. This is because me and my wife are in the groups that are at a higher risk of the virus. So, I take the precautions that might protect us. I wear a mask in public or congested areas, and I practice social distancing. I do not do this because I am order to. I do it to protect my wife. So far, neither of us has shown any signs of contracting the virus. So, I will keep following those practices as long as I feel it is necessary. But, not all those around me are following my example. I know that, as long as I am doing what I have been doing, that their lack of safety measures do not put me at risk. My measures protect me and my wife from being put at risk by their actions.

The only thing I do about them, is to ensure that they are more then 6 feet from me. This has caused some near physical confrontations from individuals that do not want to back up. I have seen some customers verbally attack cashiers that attempt to enforce social distance policies within their lines. If there is going to be any physical attacks, they are going to be by those that refuse to do social distancing. Not those on the other side of the arguement.

As opposed to the mask Nazis who shame people who do not wear them ?

At best, face masks are 99% political correctness, and 1% preventive. In fact, masks may actually put people at a greater risk because of the false security people think they have by wearing them. Masks let much of the virus pass through, and collect much of the virus that doesn't get through. Sort of a lose lose for those wearing them.

Face masks redirect airflow. That's why they are much more effective in preventing spread from a covid positive person, because the virus-containing droplets don't extend as far out from the source. In essence, when you refuse to wear a face mask you are telling the world: I don't care if I pass the virus on to you.

    These countries say differently:
    ,
    Venezuela 11 deaths 0.4/m
    Vietnam 0 deaths 0/m
    Czech 317 deaths 30/M
    Slovakia 28 deaths 5/m
    Bosnia 151 deaths 46/m
    Colombia 776 deaths 15/m
    UAE 255 deaths 26/m
    Cuba 85 deaths 7/m

    Japan 846 deaths 7/m
    South Korea 269 deaths 5/m

    Perhaps you can explain why?

    How about a comparison:
    UK 37,460 deaths 552/m
    US 101,470 deaths 307/m

Is it just a coincidence that those other countries in the previous post have compulsory mask wearing, or in Japan and South Korea case, mask wearing is habit?

So do you have any other reasons for the huge difference in death rates

The thing is that the virus is very, very rarely aerosolized. It generally spreads while part of the saliva or muccus excreted while talking, coughing, or sneezing.

So while technically true that the masks do not stop the particles of the virus, if moving by itself, the masks do stop most of the saliva or muccus that is actually carrying the virus.

"Masks let much of the virus pass through" is inaccurate when it comes to spreading the virus outward. These masks are designed to limit your ability to spread the virus, not so much as to prevent you from getting the virus.

If you have the virus you shouldn't be out at all.
