This is in addition to crippling sanctions and stealing the oil, all to cause pain for ordinary Syrians.

In 2012, the US and the Gulf states attacked Syria with a terrorist army, leading to the deaths of over 500,000 people and over a million refugees. A series a false flag chemical attacks were blamed on the Syrian government to draw the US deeper into the conflict.

Trump said he would end the war but instead he's just shifted the strategy to applying "maximum pressure" on the people.

    Um no. That article says:
"The report titled Confirmed Trump Ordered Syria's Wheat Crop Burning During Pandemic claimed that the US forces were carrying out the orders that were sanctioned by The White House. President Donald Trump had signed the orders for the burning of agriculture lands in Syria." Your article is reporting from another source. The source its reporting from, the report 'Confirmed Trump Ordered Syria's Wheat Crop Burning During Pandemic' aka https://veterans.dfns.net/2020/05/2...red-syrias-wheat-crop-burned-during-pandemic/
doesnt seem to go anywhere and 'won't load.' Which can be caused by a simple server problem that hopefully is corrected soon... but is also commonly caused by FAKE NEWS.

So you have one person(Richard Medhurst) saying it was caused by American Forces. Yet there is no evidence supplied. You have a claim w/o evidence to back up the clam saying it was Apaches. You click on some links, and find this "SANA reporter quoted civil sources SANA reporter quoted civil sources as saying that a US Apache helicopter on Sunday morning dropped a number of thermal balloons while flying close to the ground, setting a number of fires and burning more than 200 dunums of wheat fields in Adla village, in Shaddadi countryside, south of Hasaka. What sources? It dosn't say, and again no evidence other then a statment. This screams fake news.

    I found another source:
    http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-05/17/c_139064494.htm

Even ignoring the miraculous transformation of one U.S. aircraft in the Chinese source to several Apache helicopters in IBTimes, one very big question remains: when did thermal balloons become a weapon?
    https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/surgery/thermal-balloon-endometrial-ablation

Crops had been set on fire in rebel held areas in Syria by the Syrian army last year.
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...-using-food-as-weapon-of-war-un-idUSKCN1T51AZ

There are still ISIS cells in the region, too, and they've burned crops before.

Why would Americans burn crops in rebel held areas?

Hardly a reliable source. The article quotes a SANA article that can not even get their story straight. First it was a US plane, then it was Apache Helicopters. The last paragraph of the article called the US presence in Syria an illegal occupation. The only thing being occupied by the US forces are a few forward bases that are providing logistical support for insurgents fighting against extremists radical Muslim Jihadists. This works in favor of the Syrian Government by pitting insurgents against each other.

Yes, and now that it is, I can see its not only lacking your linked article's claims 'that the US forces were carrying out the orders that were sanctioned by The White House. President Donald Trump had signed the orders for the burning of agriculture lands in Syria" (for which no evidence or source is provided), but is basing the claim that the fires were started by US forces in the first place simply on the report that the helicopters were AH-64 Apaches. It fails to mention that Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia also use Apache helicopters and Turkey recently started using an Apache clone that they not only manufacture themselves but sell to other nations/groups in the region.

So, to recsp, all this is based on some folks in Syria who claim to have seen helicopters that looked like Apaches burning their wheat. Doesn't mean it was the US, and if it was, doesn't mean Trump ordered or even sanctioned it.

But the real kicker here is that veterenstodaynetwork.com is basing its report on this one: http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2020-05/17/c_139064494.htm

According to https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/xinhua-news-agency/ Xinhua news agency:
-"...is the official state owned news agency in the People’s Republic of China."
-"...Cai Mingzhao is the president. Cai Mingzhao is also a member of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China"
-Xinhua is owned by the People’s Republic of China"
-When it comes to factual reporting we rate them Mixed due to a
lack of linked sourcing and promotion of pro-Chinese government propaganda."

So, congratulations! Your thread has been upgraded from FAKE NEWS to CHINESE COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA.

Why would Americans even be in Syria? Has Syria attacked us? We've commandeered their oil, what principle would mean we would not burn their wheat?

We serve in Syria at Israel's pleasure.

Just what are we doing with their oil then? You have to pay someone to take it these days.

What do you mean no better ? Just because the "network" holds political views you don't like does not make the information wrong or false.

Prove your claim that they are "anti-veteran" - now you are just making stuff up.

"The only Source they quote is Assad" - aside from being complete BS - obviously they have more sources - What is wrong with quoting Assad - did you never hear of getting both sides of the story - or are you so used to the once sided State Sponsored propaganda (SSP) kool-aid that you forgot about objectivity ?

You probably don't have the faintest clue about what went down in Syria if all you listen to is the SSP.

An excellent point, and I don't live there so I don't know how or if things have changed after Covid.

But before Covid, we were guarding the oil fields in the northeast so that "our guys" could move it.

The civil war has turned Syria into fertile ground for proliferation of unwanted manifestations of human misery, some so extreme that the whole world is threatened. What happens today in Syria won't stay in Syria unless the world makes it stay in Syria.

Politics is not about moral choices, you know. It's about protecting short and long term interests of the country. Anything else is empty rhetoric. The debate around the American presence in Syria shouldn't be about Syrian or regional interests, but about American interests. The question must be: does American presence in Syria serve the interests of the US?

Nobody would burn the crops of their allies, unless they're mentally ill.

Washington's long term plan is to split Syria, and grab the oil and gas rich Syrian lands east of the Euphrates for a Kurd homeland. That way it would put a wedge between Syria and Iran. Problem is, that most of the land belongs to the Arabs not to the Kurds. The Kurd homeland is in Turkey, not in Syria. So in order to establish a Kurd nation, the US has to ethnically cleanse the original inhabitants, therefore it's not far fetched that the Americans might burn their crops to force the Arabs to leave.

As for ISIS, the Syrian army has eliminated them throughout Syria, except for the area east of the Euphrates occupied by the Americans. If the Americans were to eliminate ISIS, then Washington would not have and excuse to be in Syria. This would mean the oil and gas rich lands would go back to the Syrian people and they would be able to rebuild their country.

When the Syrian army tried to free the country east of the Euphrates from ISIS last year, they were attacked by American jets, under the excuse that the Syrians were attacking the Kurds and not the terrorists.

    Oh well what else new?

It is not now and never was a civil war in Syria.

What's happening there is military aggression by Israel by its puppy dog the US government. They think Syria and the rest of the Mideast belongs to them, under something like our Monroe Doctrine, they call Greater Israel.

Pres. Assad in the past years has proven his credibility, while our government and its propaganda networks, have done the exact opposite - so why shouldn't they quote Assad?

aye - State Sponsored Propaganda has really increased in general .. especially with respect to "The Enemy" du jour.

The Military Industrial Complex is a 1.2 Trillion dollar per year gravy train. Its hard to justify that spend if there is no enemy - and if there isn't one .. you better make one up quick.

Just remember - The Reason for War is to Make you Less Free.
