I support voting by phone or video conference. Not the inane '1 senator voting for 10 others' they're trying to do. I also only support it in emergency situations like a pandemic. not as a normal process. As another poster pointed out, the in-person debates are important.
I didn't say I think they would. I said I do. Have 'McCarthy and crew' shot down voting by video conference yet? I prefer to let folks voice their opinion, not presume it for them...
because they electronically transmitted their vote and they need someone to do the manual part, same that Trump previously supported this is only during the Pandemic, IE during a national emergency
I fail to see the distinction.... Even Fox doesn't seem to see any issue with this... other than a few stupid paragraphs, this is a very good summary of the process (yeah, I'm shocked too).. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-test-new-proxy-voting-system-set GOP opposition to this will be seen as a 3 year old stomping their feet for no reason..
You still don't get it do you. People who let other people vote for them by proxy are absent. Not there either remotely, by computer or in person. They're absent. With The Democrats large edge in the House, it doesn't mean much if anything. Only that those who allow others to vote by proxy for them are in themselves absent and not present via computer, teleconferences, remotely or whatever. I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.
'Debate' Trump? You mean flail his arms around and yell at the clouds?(Biden is one of the worst political candidates for president in modern history. At least Hillary didn't look like her memory and cognitive awareness wasn't failing her. Sure, other things appeared to be, not so well but with Hillary at least we could be assured she'd make it through the term. Biden, not so much.)
I continue to laugh at the moronic comments by McCarthy.. I stumble over them (as he does) in various articles through the day... SNIP He called out the 46 Democrats in the California delegation, noting that “19 million people in California will not have a voice. It will be lent to somebody else.” ENDSNIP Of course they have a voice... The 46 in California all voted yes for the Chinese Sanctions and the PPP revisions.... they just had somebody else cast it for them. It's not like those 46 contacted 46 people in DC and said 'Meh... can't be bothered..... vote however you want in my name' I agree that McCarthy is not the worst R in the House, but he's still a dumb ass...
get with the times, I am present for meetings all the time without being physically present in a room with people
Yes, you can be present with a computer, with teleconferencing and a host of other ways electronically. But if you aren't present in the room or communicating the the room via any numerous electronic deivices which conferences you into the room, you're absent. You are not in communications with them which means your absent from the room, both physically and remotely. If I give you a piece of paper stating you're going to vote for me, a proxy vote. Then head off to Timbuktu, I'm not present either physically or electronically or in communications with that room. I can't answer a quorum call because I'm not there physically or remotely or electronically. We're talking about proxy voting, not voting remotely. That something you fail to understand. So be it. I have no problem with people tuning in remotely, electronically, but with proxy voting when that person is absent. If you are connected via electronically, you are present, if you're in Timbuktu without any electronic means to communicate, you're absent. Even if someone has a piece of paper to cast your vote. The solution, just have everyone teleconference in and forget proxy voting.
Maybe the GOP should get to work on the second round of stimulus aid we need (we being citizens not business) instead of wasting time of nonsense like this. This lawsuit is about as dumb as the Democrat's bill's to officially label "china virus" as racist. Get to work on real stuff, Congressional slackers.
Good call.... Just following up, as a judge tossed this obvious nuisance suit .. Also good of you to notice the GOP wasn't working on the 2nd round of stimulus back in May, and barely are today... Most posts on here don't age well... This one did... https://www.yahoo.com/news/judge-dismisses-gop-lawsuit-over-000202178.html Of course, Kevin McCarthy will reportedly appeal.... because losing once is never satisfying enough....
