I think that your speculation may be justified. I regularly read science journals and this is a subject that comes up from time to time. It has long been noticed that liberalism seems to be exclusive to Northern Europe, and that liberal reforms don't seem to take hold in places like the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

Here in the US there are 5 cities that I have heard refered to as America's five liberal jewels. The Bay Area, Portland, Seattle, Denver-Boulder, and the Twin Cities. Sometimes Boston gets thrown in too. Interestingly enough all five cities have a rather large Nordic population. An interesting pattern with Scandinavian immigration to the US was that groups tended to migrate together, allowing them to create thriving settlements with little to no "starving time". There were sizable settlements in the vicinities of all 5 of the cities. Portland began as a merger between three towns, one of which began as a Swedish settlement. My ancestors, on my mother's side, came from a Swedish settlement in the Boulder-Longmont area in Colorado.

Brain studies have shown that liberals tend to process new information in different parts of the brain than other people, and that certain liberal traits begin to emerge in one's childhood. That it is genetic can be seen in twin studies, where identical twins raised separately, tend to hold almost identical political and social views.

Even though John Locke is said to be the father of liberalism, it seems that much of his ideas, and of other early liberal writers, had Nordic roots going back to prehistoric times, where ideas like a trial by jury and leaders being selected and held accountable to the people were practiced. Even women's rights has roots in ancient Nordic society.

Scandinavian holidays like the Midsummer festivals are celebrated in places like the Pacific Northwest and Minnesota.

 

Yeah, there absolutely no valid scientific studies on how brains process information, determined by political affiliation.

The local and state are no more hurt than are the Feds, THEY aren't the business owners.

Conservatives apparently want to have old fashioned riots like in the early 1900's and 1890's, when actual individuals chased down and killed other individuals of both races but the businesses are left alone. A lot more people die but nobody's taxes go up.

 

Let the local and state, only, make the business owners whole.
