I acknowledge my White Privlege. How do we deal with it?

I live in a city where there the population is 76% African-American. I have lived on streets where I am the only white within blocks. I have had shoot out happen right in front of my house. I have been mugged on my own front porch. I have had people challenge me just for walking down my own street. To claim that this only happens to blacks in a white neighborhood is completely unrealistic. So, obviously, I have not had the benefit of white privilege. I survived because I am not a racist. Eventually, I earned the respect of some of my neighborhood, and even the respect of the local gang members. As it became apparent that I was not a racist, I was becoming more accepted. Yet, that still did not keep me from being run out of the neighborhood.

I heard a noise on my porch one night, and I went out to see what it was. There were some Drug dealers that had chosen to peddle their wears on my porch. When I asked them to leave they refused. Eventually, I had to threaten to call the police. They left, but the next morning I found a swastika painted on my front door. I moved me and my wife out that day. Two days later, the house was burned down. I guess they thought we still lived there. Where was my white privilege then?

These are all excellent books. Ask for them at your local library.

White privilege is still a real thing. White lives have more value in this country. That has been true since colonial times when this society was first founded. If you don't believe me Google: Slave laws in colonial Virginia.

A load of BS that the left-wing media has fed you. Further, laws from several hundred years ago for an institution that ended more then a century ago does not reflect current understanding. Whites do not have any additional privilege in this country. On the contrary, it is the minorities that have the privilege. This is ensured by racist programs such as Affirmative Action, racial quotas and Judicial Activists that use a person's race as a mitigating factor in sentencing. Until whites have Equal Opportunity laws apply into their favor will privilege against whites be errased.

Again, you can not use laws from centuries ago for an institution that ended more then a century ago to explain the lies of today!!!!

Reparations from people who did not violate anyone's rights to people whose rights were not violated is not economic or any other kind of justice, sorry. Since the end of slavery, American blacks have certainly been the disproportionate victims of actual privileges, like land titles, bank licenses and IP monopolies (not to mention Jim Crow, redlining, etc.), which have almost exclusively benefited whites. But that doesn't mean whiteness itself is a privilege, because underprivileged whites are also the victims of privilege. Sure, it is an advantage to be white in America, like being unusually attractive, talented, or industrious in other countries, but that is not the same as a privilege, which must by definition be legal, not merely social or cultural. Unlike privilege, advantage does not deprive anyone else of anything they would otherwise have. If American blacks want justice, they are going to have to oppose privilege, not whites, make common cause with whites who also oppose the injustice of privilege, and be content that as the disproportionate victims of privilege, they have that much more to gain, on average, from its abolition than whites. Black anger specifically at whites is understandable, but not helpful. They will only get justice by demanding justice, and justice is colorblind.

 

Your books selling an agenda don't impress me. I'm a history buff and have read more books on the civil war and the antebellum era than you have likely read on all subjects combined. I know exactly why the war was fought and exactly why the north won. The south with its agriculture based on slavery economy had been left in the dust by the free state industrialized north.

 

I don't speak for every white person on earth but i certainly don't hold myself above anyone else, and the world damn sure treats me with same cold indifference it does to everyone else. Ill let you know when i feel an ounce of privilege in my life thank you.

OK. So, why do unarmed Black men die at the hands of police so often? Remember when Dylan Roof was arrested for killing those nine Black people in their church? When the police arrested him they didn't even draw their guns. And they took him to Burger King on the way to the police station.
Anybody want to bet a Black guy who killed nine White people would be treated the same way.

Reading a book and understanding it are two different things. The worth of all enslaved people in 1860 was 4 billion dollars; more than all businesses, banks and railroads at the time. Most of those enslaved persons were in the South.
So, how did the industrialized North have more wealth than the South?

 

Slaves were worth nothing in the north so their so called worth is a meaningless statistic. Slaves were not a tangible asset anywhere outside the slave states so their worth was in essence zero.

Police act the way they do because they learned their lessons the hard way. They know in what neighborhoods they are more likely to face violent criminals, and when they detain people they can tell when an arrest is going to be difficult or not. They are out on those streets every day. It's like when I would be on missions in Mosul or Baghdad, we knew which areas were infested with insurgents, and which ones were safe. WE knew what categories of people we could deal with safely, and which ones we had to force to comply at gunpoint. It's no different for police in rough neighborhoods. If those neighborhoods happen to be black, then maybe the people living there need to do a little soul searching and turn their communities around.

Sure, black people had a hard time at first, but that's way in the past. By clinging to that **** and pointing the fingers at others for your shortcomings, you are keeping yourselves down. You have all the rights and freedoms that everyone else has. If cops treat you differently, it's not because they are racist, it's because they want to get home to their families alive each night. Granted, there are some bad apples, but the vast majority are good hard working people who want to protect and serve their communities.

 

So, why was Dylan Roof treated so kindly when he was arrested?
