Not to mention the use of 'we' and 'them'. There's no point.

Exactly! It is the heart of the very reason there are protests!

It is pure nihilism on several levels.

First there is the nihilism of the individuals who are into destruction for destruction's sake.

Second, there is the nihilism of the radical Leftist groups (predominantly Marxist, Marxist-Leninist, Maoist and Anarcho-Marxist) whose members are involved in the current rounding of rioting as they have been involved in the rioting associated with past protest movements. Those groups want to destroy America and everything associated with it (free market capitalism, individual freedom, etc.) and replace it with the alternative that destroyed the lives of hundreds of millions of human beings behind the Iron and Bamboo Curtains during the 20th Century. Once again, destruction for destruction's sake.

I'm familiar with this alphabet soup of extremist groups (ANSWER, WWP, PSL, Antifa, etc.) because I have demonstrated against them in the past. They're easy to identify and you'll usually see their signage in the crowds if you look hard enough.

That's what I thought, too. I'm disturbed by how many are discounting the protests and focusing only on the riots. Or combining the two and vilifying them. I just can't understand the willful ignoring of the bigger picture. Or, at least, a vital piece of the puzzle!

Yup, and the character of the Joker is the perfect embodiment of nihilism. In fact, Nihilism was a reoccurring theme in that trilogy of movies, particularly the last two.

Because that is what demagogues do! Trump has fashioned himself a puedo religious cult.

These riots are deliberate and in some cases premeditated events.

First of all, many of the rioters are white - what excuse do you want to make for them?

Secondly, no one has presented any evidence that the policemen involved in George Floyd's death were racists and killed him because he was black. Even if they were racists and they killed Mr. Floyd out of racial animus, that doesn't excuse the actions of the rioters. Most of the black protesters have conducted themselves in a peaceful and lawful manner, so it's an insult to lump them in with the elements associated with the violence and looting.

So you deny that America has spent trillions of dollars in welfare assistance to blacks since we passed the Great Society and War on Poverty programs of the 1960s? You deny that America has outlawed institutional and other forms of discrimination against blacks? You deny the existence of the Affirmative Action program that has helped blacks get jobs and an education and that this program has resulted in many cases of reverse discrimination?

If so, you are either in denial or in need of an education yourself.

Of course peaceful protests work. It certainly worked for MLK. And the protests weren't even necessary the cop that inadvertently or not killed George Lloyd is going to jail. The only question is how long. That was going to happen with or without the protests. Violence begets violence. 70 years ago the riots would not have spread and would have been over in a heart beat. After the first or second looter got his ass shot off.

You seem to be operating under the presumption the rioters and the protesters are one and the same. They are not.

Really? I've lived through 3 prior racial riots, not including this one. I'm assuming you're talking about the race riots in '68? Yeah, maybe you can't remember, but there were no easy solutions back then either and your false bravado is pure fantasy.

Bullshit. You lumped the rioters in with the peaceful protesters, not me.

Why are you lumping the rioters in with the peaceful protesters?

Nonsense 68 was a smidge more than fifty years ago. And I never said it was easy. Since the rise of the progressives following WWII we've gotten worse and worse at dealing with rioters.

It is the rise of toxic conservatism that has created this mess.

I'm sure you will disagree, but I have no desire for the typical tit for tat responses from you.

Oh bullshit it is the rise of the welfare state and too many kids who grew up without a father in the home.

    1) Slavery
    2) Jim Crow laws
    3) Lynchings
    4) Church bombings and burnings
    5) Home bombings and burnings
    6) Second class citizenship
    7) Barred from certain neighborhoods, jobs and schools.

All of the above things rob a person's dignity.

And for some irony, many of those minority owned businesses that have been damaged will likely never reopen. There is no money.

Most of the space is rented from the building owner, if the building is old it may not be worth rebuilding, the owner will pocket the ins. check and sell or hand the property to the city. The city will annouce an urban renewal project and sell the property to corporate developers. The new buildings will be leased to corporate chain stores as the former inhabitants can't afford the new rent.

This is Downtown Business Gentrification, it happens all the time.
