and I quote, 'Nursing homes should admit any individuals from hospitals where Covid is present,'" said Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa on Saturday during a briefing. "Not could, should ... that is President (Donald) Trump's CMS and CDC.

"There are over a dozen states that did the exact same thing, many of whom were concerned about hospital capacity. ... Obviously any death is an unfortunate death," DeRosa said, listing the totals from other states amongst New York's. "It's been a national and international tragedy that everybody has had to grapple with and it is something that we're trying to learn from every day and move forward."

There were NO recovery facilities to send them, so it was either the old folks homes, or the hospital, which would have killed MANY folks, waiting for a space that was taken by a lightly ill elderly. Cuomo had no choice. But the right wing will continue to blame it all on Govs, and leave Trump blameless. Even a federal order is NOT Trump's fault. Nothing will ever be.

Of course Andrew followed Trump's misguided instructions in the early going. So what did it take for him to finally realize Trump was leading him astray?

Cuomo can try to blame it on whoever he wants, but it was a stupid decision and he is the one who ultimately made it.

A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants. IIRC Cuomo sent hospitalized patients with COVID-19 to nursing homes, not elderly patients in a hospital where COVID-19 was present.
I can't remember, did Cuomo and Mayor deCommio actually use all of the new hospital beds (including one of the largest hospitals built in a few weeks and the Medical Navy ship) that the federal government provided? I can't remember, did they use all of the tens of thousands of ventilators that Cuomo insisted NY must have and the feds sent?

About 1/2 of Florida's deaths have been in nursing homes. I think they all did the same thing. What else would they do?
Now if you want to say the homes didn't follow the rules you might have a better argument.

No they didn't. The problem in most states was that it was already too late by the time they realized they had a problem. Especially so in most states on the coast. Covid, thanks to Beijing's lies, had almost certainly been in this country since mid December, it was mid March by the time the lock downs occurred by which time it was really too late in the game for them to have any real effect.

Only a month ago, hospitals were eager to send elderly patients back to their long-term care facilities when they were still positive but no longer needed hospitalization. The facilities fought back, resisting re-admission until the residents were healthy and leaving the seniors caught in the middle.
    -----------------------
In the last few weeks, multiple nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout the state have experienced outbreaks, as operators have begged for more testing, supplies and personal protective gear for their workers. As of Wednesday, 776 residents or workers at long-term care facilities have died.

Kristen Knapp, a spokesperson for the Florida Health Care Association, which advocates for nursing homes, said the state put its stricter protocols for handling positive cases in writing on May 5 and some facilities may be less able to meet those requirements to care for positive residents.

“Now there is more clarification," Knapp said. "We now know that residents will be transferred out of facilities that are not capable of adherence.”

Thanks for confirmation of what I said it didn't happen because people actually listened to the people running nursing homes and it was the hospitals not the government pushing it.

You seem to be cleverly avoiding that Florida was doing the same thing.

Many of the homes lacked the facilities to follow the rules. In New York they didn't even ask if they could.

In New York, the city had facilities with isolation. If the home couldn't handle it that is where they should have been sent. That might not have been on FOX News.

same with the Trump shutdown, got to love the right, Trump issues a national emergency, tells the States to shut down for 30 days, then Trump tells the States how to open.... then the Right attacks the States for doing what Trump said to do

Indeed that is where they should have been sent but we're not because the know-it-all boys assumed stuff they shouldn't have.
