As soon as a riot begins peaceful protest is over.
Anyone who remains in a violent mob is a rioter.

Baloney, Trump's base of support includes Democrats, Independents and radical thinking Leftists. As you can see on this forum almost all if not all of them support the prosecution of crooked cops. Many support prosecutions for 1st degree murder for every cop involved in the murder of Floyd.

Beyond that the traditional knee jerk support for police among conservatives no longer exists. IMO, the professional PD model of law enforcement is a monumental failure and should be abolished.

 

Yeah I agree, but as far as we know, these protestors were not rioting - their only crime as far as I can tell was blocking a road, and presumably they were only engaged by authorities when they refused to move on.

The police had a duty to clear the road. The protesters had a duty to obey orders to clear the road. Arresting them for even passive resistance would be appropriate.
Beating the snot out of them or severe punishment for passive resistance is never appropriate.

It would be better if professional police departments were not tasked with dealing with protestors

 

The DPs Big Blue Wall was not breached by Republicans. Democrats and Independents had to vote for Trump to achieve those victories.
Many Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein supporters voted for Trump.

As you probably know I like the idea of independent elected local sheriffs with a few professional deputies and thousands trained volunteer deputies recruited from the local community. Let the people regulate their own communities and neighborhoods. Cheap effective law enforcement is possible.

 

There is apparently a new poll indicating that over 70% of Americans support using troops to deal with the protests. If accurate Trump favors far more restraint than a super majority of Americans.

I always favor the use of minimum effective use of force to maintain law and order.
These riots could have been easily suppressed with little damage or injury if there had been any inclination toward such an approach.

 

Maximum force immediately is better. Fewer people have to be hurt because it works so quickly.

 

Anti-DNC votes from Sanders supports I assume, after they raped Sanders.
