Using the military against Americans is exactly what a dictator would do, and if he is allowed to start, he will do it again in November.

    Ret. Admiral Mike Mullen:

"It sickened me yesterday to see security personnel—including members of the National Guard—forcibly and violently clear a path through Lafayette Square to accommodate the president's visit outside St. John's Church. I have to date been reticent to speak out on issues surrounding President Trump's leadership, but we are at an inflection point, and the events of the past few weeks have made it impossible to remain silent.

I remain confident in the professionalism of our men and women in uniform. They will serve with skill and with compassion. They will obey lawful orders. But I am less confident in the soundness of the orders they will be given by this commander in chief, and I am not convinced that the conditions on our streets, as bad as they are, have risen to the level that justifies a heavy reliance on military troops. Certainly, we have not crossed the threshold that would make it appropriate to invoke the provisions of the Insurrection Act.

Furthermore, I am deeply worried that as they execute their orders, the members of our military will be co-opted for political purposes.

Even in the midst of the carnage we are witnessing, we must endeavor to see American cities and towns as our homes and our neighborhoods. They are not “battle spaces” to be dominated, and must never become so."

You are a dollar short and an hour too late and light years wrong about Gen. Mattis. Mattis has already written books. Mattis left the Sec of Def post on Dec 31, 2018 so he has had all kinds of time to apply for a commentator's job at CNN.

The haters Gen. Mattis and the lovers of Gen. Bonespurs appears to be grasping at straws trying to support their Boy.

Thank you, Gen. Mattis, for speaking out about the Orange Fraud.

But I must ask, where have you been? You, other former Trump admin officials, members of what was the GOP, it is way past time for you to take a principled stand against this abomination. It's time for all Americans who care about what the country stands for the say they will no longer be a part of this horrible mistake gone horribly wrong.

Regardless of how you feel about Trump, what he said in his speech Monday was spot on. It is absolutely his responsibility and the responsibility of our local and state government to protect the citizens. We can not allow people to run wild through the streets burning, looting, and murdering.

Our government at every level has completely failed by allowing this to continue this long. Our police and National Guard are the only thing keeping us from falling into complete anarchy right now, and how many of them have been killed and injured? If this continues Trump is going to have to step in, it really is one of his primary functions.

I wish Trump would stop playing around and go ahead and suppress ALL the Anti-American BS.
Sick of it. Sick of all the people wanting to put illegals ahead of Americans here at home.
Sick of people wanting anarchy and violence.
Sick of people violating Constitutional Rights.
    Enough!

    You don't understand.....
Their goal IS TO BURN DOWN America. At ALL costs.
They use EVERY crisis to promote the anarchy.

Oh I agree. You can always tell an anarchist by their lack of direction, they just want to destroy everything. No plans for rebuilding, no solutions for current problems, just tear everything down and let anarchy rein.

There is a right way and a wrong way for him to fulfill that responsibility. He chose the wrong way.

I agree, this sh*t should have ended before it got this bad. Monday was way to late to come out of the bunker.

The local, state, and federal response to terrorism in our streets has been almost non existent. We should have secured the safety of the American public immediately by all means available.

Out government has become so entrenched in political BS it can not even perform its primary functions.

I am grateful for the men and women on the front lines, it is not their fault they answer to a bunch of incompetent political hacks.

This boils down to a real difference in policy. Mattis wanted to expand forces overseas and in Syria/Iraq/Afghan. and Trump wanted the exact opposite. Neither of these men should have voiced displeasure and even after Mattis came out with his Op Ed, President Trump should have just ignored it.

But really, the establishment in DC and in many departments are not used to the way Trump operates and at the speed he wants to accomplish things. It causes hard feelings and pain.

Trump wants the Gov. to work for the people while the establishment wants the people to feed the system and to be quiet.

It's effectively bull riding, right now.

Of course. Partisans only acknowledge it when the other team does it, though. That was more my point.

Trump is the entitled whiny little bitch. Mattis is simply a son-of-bitch combat commander who rose from a ROTC commission to a 4 star general. Not many folks attain such a rank at all, and even fewer that didn't graduate from Annapolis, West Point or Colorado Springs.

Curious how you square your disdain for Mattis with your adoration of the man that made him SecDef?

Trump wants to bring our troops home? Home from where? What's stopping him? Why are they still there? He's the only one that can solve it, right? He gets **** done, right?

Mattis doesn't. It is as simple as that. Hardly. Mattis, unlike Trump, believes in maintaining relationships with our NATO allies, rather than Trump's buffoonery toward them. Mattis holds a more traditional view that Russia under Putin is not an ally, unlike Trump who obviously is compromised by Putin and his Oligarchs.

Mattis provides a succinct account of his disagreements with Trump in his resignation letter,

No no no Facts show that Trump wants the government to work for one guy him. Well maybe close family and big contributors.

Mattis kept still for a year and a half. Mattis unlike Trump bring a man who wants what is best for his country and who not only swore to uphold the Constitution finally had enough of the tin horn banana republic dictator wannabe and opened and leg loose and his thoughts.

Trump also swore to uphold the Constitution but for Trump those are just words he had to acknowledge hearing.

Of course would not ignore any opinion that does not kiss his behind so he attacked Mattis and Trump reused an old attack line b,ecause Trump is not capable of measured thinking..

You see the diference is that Mattis is a good man good solidier and a great American. Trump! Well con man just about covers it.

The pretzel logic that so many members of Team T like to toss off is really disappointing. There's little reward in having conversations with many of them. To argue that signing up and serving = dodging the draft and never serving is just about the epitome of the so called false equivalency....
