    It is really impossible to know just where a Confederate victory would have led.

    It is indeed possible that a European power--such as England or France--would have absorbed the Confederate states (by the 1880s, perhaps).

    But that is just speculation.

    There is a genre' of books called alternative history and there are all sorts of authors coming up with all sorts of fantasy scenarios.

    This is pretty dumb. There's a difference between "attempting to erase the past" and not celebrating the things we're not proud of. How many statues of Adolf do you think you'll find in Germany?
