    This evening 76 years ago, my uncle drove a glider through the skies to Normandy.

    He was and is my hero to this day. I became a paratrooper, but the idea of flying a plane or a glider just wimps me out.

    A lot of my family was on the other side, not german soldiers, french civilian. Most of them didn't talk of that part of their history.

    A lot of what is called 'fear of heights' isn't fear, it's an ear problem with balance; you feel like you're being sucked over the edge and have no control. Many pilots have a 'fear of heights' when on a ladder or a roof, but are just fine flying a plane, since they're sitting down, not standing, and balance isn't an issue. I can fly all day long, but if I have to change a light bulb or get on the roof it takes a while to creep up and down. lol
