Should they defund police? And what rules need to be implemented?

So I feel that in most cities will take a lot of that funding and spread it to other areas. I guess that means less police jobs. How do you feel about that? Also what rules will be best to make them abide by? No chokes? Deescelation training? Reporting other bad cops? Please share.

    2 questions.

    1. How will the unions destroy the politicians?
    2. The politicians will keep getting voted out then and this will stay on their resume. Their political career will be over no matter which way they turn.

Yep. But the unions wont support them. And after the election, it will all calm down unit 2024 anyways.

No, don't defund the police. If an average citizen had done to Floyd what the police did that citizen would have been in jail immediately. Why the disconnect? We need justice and laws to be enforced equally for all citizens. I thought that was what "equal justice under the law'" meant.

What does union support have to do with it? The union doesn't decide everything. Or are you saying unions dictate what the people want?

And cops tend to vote republican so it doesn't matter if the dnc goes against the unions anyway. And in the past it would have looked bad but now it will be politically acceptable to go against the union for the citizens rights and what they want.

Liberals govern by feelings, not logic.

Defunding the police sounds good and feels good to people who are left of center.

I say: trust your feelings. Go for it.

The use of “defund” is as in-artful as one could get and the term will be exploited. Reallocate is better.

First, we’re relying on our police to perform tasks they have no business performing. For instance their presence in our school systems: decrease police presence, increase the presence of mental health professionals. The latter should be handling those ticky/tacky issues anyways. Same funding different emphasis.

A lot of our issues are rooted in economic insecurity that we allow to fester: jobs, education, housing, healthcare. Stop band-aiding over the systemic economic issues and depending on the our police departments to clean up the mess it creates. Or simply, stop ****ing our police officers.

Define issues to their root and resolve them at the root. We dump on our law enforcement system it’s not a catch-all but apparently we’ve expected it to be.

Redefine their role and take the load off their backs.

    Thoughts from Hotep:

Poor folks need subsidies so that that can hire the private armed security that rich folks enjoy.

We didn't move to police forces so much to protect citizens from criminals, as to protect criminals from informal law enforcement at the hands of citizens.

I'm just asking the question. I don't know what the answer is. I just know it can't and won't continue how it's always been done. So please share what you think about law enforcement going forward.

According to CNN this has been done before.

    (CNN)
Last week, Minneapolis officials confirmed they were considering a fairly rare course of action: disbanding the city police department.

It's not the first locale to break up a department, but no cities as populous have ever attempted it. Minneapolis City Council members haven't specified what or who will replace it if the department disbands.

Camden, New Jersey, may be the closest thing to a case study they can get

The city, home to a population about 17% of Minneapolis' size, dissolved its police department in 2012 and replaced it with an entirely new one after corruption rendered the existing agency unfixable.

Now, seven years after the old department was booted (though around 100 officers were rehired), the city's crime has dropped by close to half. Officers host outdoor parties for residents and knock on doors to introduce themselves. It's a radically different Camden than it was even a decade ago. Here's how they did it.

I appreciate your serious interest, but asking serious questions about insane, inane and irrational ideas is pretty much a waste of time. The only rule that would be required is a government decree that disallows crime.

They replaced the police with police. They restructured how funds were spent and how police were trained and how they interacted with the community. Less for armored vehicles and confrontation more for cooperation and community outreach.

Why exactly do you think cops exist in our school system?

Dramatic details emerge in capture of Air Force sergeant accused of killing Santa Cruz sheriff’s deputy.

“U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Steven Carrillo, who allegedly killed a Santa Cruz deputy and wounded two others with gunfire and improvised explosives in a weekend ambush in the Santa Cruz Mountains, was captured by a local resident who wrestled him to the ground and disarmed him of an AR-15, pipe bomb and pistol in a life-or-death confrontation, CBS San Francisco Bay Area reports.”

I think professional police forces were a good idea, because a victim in on the apprehension is probably not thinking as dispassionately as a professional detached policeman. We just have some Blue City police departments that may need complete overhauls in order to return them to the level of professionalism that is called for in this position.

But hell yes, remove our police forces and Americans don't suddenly turn into a herd of sheep. It's just not who we are.

    Clownish post.

Every intelligence department in the world (UK, France, Israel, etc.) said WMD’s existed.
