John Bolton Says Reelection Is 'Only Thing That Mattered' To Trump

Former national security adviser John Bolton claims in his forthcoming book that every decision President Donald Trump has made in office has been “driven by reelection calculations.”

“I am hard-pressed to identify any significant Trump decision during my tenure that wasn’t driven by reelection calculations,” Bolton writes, saying he was often “astonished” by Trump’s singular motivation.

Bolton, one of the most controversial figures in American foreign policy, described Trump as a “president for whom getting reelected was the only thing that mattered, even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation.”

It practically goes without saying, but it's good of Bolton to step up and tell us anyway.

So he wants Trump to make decisions that piss off the electorate and make them vote for the other guy?

Of course he makes decisions that will make the electorate happy and vote for him.

This should be common sense and it shows that Trump is listening to what the people want.

Isn't that what a president should be doing?

We didn't need Bolton to tell us that, did we? Trump has not been a governing president at all. He has been about messaging and image. Its almost as though he thought he was getting a marketing job.

Do you really believe that any president actually runs the government. Trump has been just as active as most presidents, if not more so.

Do you think Alzheimer's Joe Biden is currently capable of running anything? If Biden is elected, the reality will become more than clear.

The U.S. President is a figure head. It is a marketing job.

I am shocked I tell you, shocked beyond belief, do you mean to tell me that a sitting president concerned himself with reelection? What is the world coming to?

A president should have policies - Trump has none. Compare Trump's website to Bidens...its apples and oranges.

I sure wish Bolton would have testified at the impeachment trial, and that Senate Republicans hadn't kept all testimony and new evidence out of it just to protect Dear Leader and protect their Trump-and-Us-First party.

Where are his health policies, promised in 2016? What about gun legislation which he promised - on stage - to the students of Florida? What about his policies on infrastructure? I find he talks a lot, but not a lot gets done - with respect to policies.

And yes, I read your ballotpedia - not all included are 'policies'...they are merely stances.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe he was a bit distracted for the first 3 years with "Russia! Russia! Russia!", then with impeachment, then with the deadliest virus to hit the world in 100 years, then with lockdowns held over for too long crushing the economy, and now with the race riots which were seeded during Obama's racially-divisive administration.

Now, people want to make like what John Bolton thinks is some "big deal". Must be a slow week for news, if we're talking about Bolton. LOL

A few accomplishments, which you may prefer to see as failures...if you are aware of them.

    Reshaping the federal judiciary
    Space Force
    Tax reform
    First Step Act
    Defeating ISIS's caliphate

A longer list (if you actually care):

You left out "Irreparably divided the nation and has brought us to the brink of civil war."

At this point the only solution is to end the country. Support the right of secession. We want nothing to do with the trump wing. Red states and Blue States will not find reconciliation. The South never accepted their loss. And a peaceful end is far better than another long bitter war, don't you think?

And I'm not even a liberal or a Democrat. Imagine how THEY feel!

I've been listening to red staters whine about the liberal west blah blah blah for as long as I can remember, So no more whining. Support the right of secession. We don't want the same country and we never will. End the nightmare and get the hell out of my life. We will never accept another one of your little tyrants again. Trump is not our president.

You left out the "reparable" divided nation which Obama created.

I'm not a Republican or Democrat, but I still have optimism that this nation can be unified and healed, but perhaps only by the grace of God.

A peaceful end to the biased media on both sides, which acts as the tempest in a teapot, is far better than a long bitter war. There is still much goodness in this country and there are far more kind hearts than hearts filled with evil and hate. The "news" and much of the internet only amplifies the dramatic negatives.

Really? Trump is off the hook for doing very little for 3 years because of 'Russia Russia Russia'? What did he do that filled his days with respect to that issue? Other than going out of his way to comment on it via Twitter and stand in the way of subpoenas?

I'm happy for you that you are happy with his performance. Unfortunately, I don't feel the same way. He has been a lazy president.

Because they are not suing the publisher - only Bolton - it would appear that they are trying to intimidate Bolton...

Look at what Trump says about all the people he fires. Mattis goes from greatest General ever "Maddog " Mattis to"loser worst General in the history of mankind just for telling the truth."

Except that they don't betray our country to foreign powers (like when Trump sided with Putin in Helsinki, tried to coerce the Ukrainian president into announcing a sham investigation of Biden and begged the Chinese to import more US produce to help him win midwestern states while ******** all over our national values by okaying concentration camps for eeeevil Muslims in China), or get hundreds of thousands of Americans killed by a pandemic out of an unspeakably ignorant and self-centered effort to fool some the people all of the time into believing that the virus has magically gone away as he so stupidly promised it would.

Trump is unspeakably evil and disgusting, and there is no comparing him to past presidents or other elected officials. Not even the lowest of his Republican ass-smoochers operate as he does, because even they are not sociopathic and narcissistic cretins with no sense of duty to their country. They did wipe their asses with the Constitution when they voted not to hear testimony or admit further evidence and voted to acquit Trump, and that's hard to overlook or forgive, but even then they were not quite down at Trump's scum-sucking level.
