I did some work for NREL in Colorado, back around 1992, I think it was. Solar energy stuff. Sure hydrogen is compelling but when compared to alternatives, it tends to come up short. But then everyone does remember the Hindenburg, don’t they?

I grew up on a farm in northeastern Ohio. I have a lot of memories of people’s houses, garages, and barns going up in flames due to faulty gas or oil connections. I even remember a good chunk of a small town being wiped out in Colorado due to a gas leak.

It was in doing energy calculations that convinced me electricity was the way to go. Why bother with intermediating processes? Plus electricity has the advantage of universality. One can always create electric charge. With an electric car and a photo voltaic cell, one could essentially drive for free. Free clean energy. In Colorado I heated my house and water via solar radiation and used a windmill for some of my electricity. Free clean energy.


In any case, hydrogen cell cars haven’t planned out, have they? Is that not what Bush was promising?

 

I guess you don’t remember the election of 2018 when the Democrats took back the house in dramatic fashion which lead to the impeachment of Trump. Who by the way is desperately trying to prevent John Bolton from releasing his book, which is likely to outline quite a few more reasons why Trump should be removed from office.

Batteries and electrical grid switching and transmission hardware "intermediating processes" are both environment-damaging nightmares, and both solar and wind make extensive use of both. Those are just a few of the hidden pitfalls of of solar and wind. See Michael Moore's most recent documentary that has the greenies calling for his head on a silver matter if you'd like to know more about the dirty little secrets of wind and solar energy.

Hydrogen has the advantage of being incredibly non-toxic, and non-harmful to the environment. The only "emissions" associated with hydrogen as fuel is water vapor, and hydrogen eliminates most of the electrical transmission and switching hardware, and about all of the batteries.

Yes, hydrogen is 'fraught with danger', as they say, and difficult to handle, transport, and utilize, and that's part of the the technical hurdles that they're finding difficult to overcome.

But maybe it's worth the time and effort to develop a hydrogen energy system based upon the solid fact that it's amazingly environmentally friendly, right?

Me? I say forget all that hippie crap, and go nuke.
