Europeans wouldn’t venture into the interior to gather slaves. That was left to the blacks and Arabs. The Europeans waited in the ports.

It is easy to see how a father without a brain can produce children even lower in the gene pool. AKA Linwood Kaine leader of Antifa in MN.

There was no America when slavery began in America, so the European nations who started the Atlantic slave trade would be your culprit, and the answer to 'Who created slavery in America?"

America fought a war to end that slavery.

Oh, and here's a fun historical question-

Did the African slave trade cease when the Atlantic slave trade was ended?

The USA was responsible. But that responsibility ended this day 1865 at Galveston.

There's a concept called supply and demand you might want to bone up on, especially the demand part.

Oh I thought the question was about slavery in AMERICA. So you are saying those who founded America were responsible for it.

So the USA stopped slavery, but NEVER paid restitution for slavery. Would that be correct?

The demand for African slaves didn't go away when the Atlantic slave trade ended, it just shifted East to the Arab slave trade, and the demand actually INCREASED.

There's a thing called a history book, you might want to crack one open.

    Paid in full in blood.

But then the Democrats got control away from Republicans and the Democrats legislated Jim Crow laws.

    A half-assed attempt was made.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty_acres_and_a_mule

But no, it's far to say that formerly-enslaved people were never really granted restitution.

The idea of restitution for slavery is moot now, because, you see, all the slaves are long gone.

Ya gotta love this place. Right now it's all the rage to talk about race. The networks have panels on it, colleges are going bonkers over it, politicians are pandering to it, Pelosi & Co had a moment of kneeling because of it, in case you missed it there was rioting, looting, arson and white people being beaten over it, Oscars will only be considered if movies are inclusive, and here is Kaine specifically talking about race. But when you guys have nothing to say you shoot the messenger, and all this messenger did was pass along Kaine's message regarding race.

Yes, the founders of America do bear some blame for slavery, and, if you happen to see any of them in your travels, you should slap their faces.

It is a perfect description of virtually every post on this thread. Given that Conservatives seem to still be pushing the 'Lost Cause'....on those days when they aren't still trying to pretend they are the 'party of Lincoln'....I'll take my chances with 'Liberals'. At least they can muster a concentration span beyond 90 seconds.

Looking at your replies you clearly couldn't manage it, or you didn't understand what Kaine was saying. Or both.

Ok, so what is the hold up for restitution for Jim Crow? Are they waiting for all the folks to die from that era as well.

I think Steve said the Africans who had been captured by African slavers were in bondage before they even left Africa.

Nevertheless, my senator's point is disingenuous at best. Slavery was brought here long before the United States of America existed, largely because Great Britain permitted it to exist throughout its Empire, including here in North America. I didn't watch Kaine's speech in its entirety, but I'm not sure he bothered to illuminate the audience about the convoluted vagaries and contradictions in British law and the court rulings pertaining to slavery that permitted the trade and practice to exist until 1807 and 1833 respectively. Of course, that doesn't take into account how Britain continued to subjugate people in places like India until they achieved their own independence a century later.

Other than a flailing and disingenuous attempt at America-bashing I don't know what point Kaine was trying to make. Of course, America is entirely responsible for the existence of slavery on our soil from the ratification of the Constitution to the end of the Civil War, but on the other hand America and every Union soldier who died in Hell holes like the Wilderness and Cold Harbor deserve all the credit for ending it. No one ended it for us.

So why weren't they freed when they came to America, since this was a nation of good God fearin folks.

Again white folks were supposed to be civilized, God fearin folks.

They were fighting against other Americans who didn't want to end it. Sorry you can't change or run from history.

There is no hold up. Affirmative Action is the restitution for Jim Crow.

If that is true, then why do WHITE women benefit the most from it. Also the majority of black folks will never benefit from it so how is it restitution.
