Oh Modern AMP......I used to have an old vacuum tube Fender to power my keyboard and don't laugh ----- accordion. Yes I am Eastern European so accordions are a birthright LOL.....
In fact, it's significant to people around the country. It's not just celebrated in Texas. It doesn't have to be a national holiday, if that's what you mean.
I lived in French Louisiana for 8 years. Got a Deluxe Reverb, Blues Deluxe and Blues Jr all tube and an old Peavey Duce transistor preamp tube power amp.
It is so pathetic that so few Americans know anything about American history. The day has zilch to do about when the slaves were freed.
Hi Arborville. I'm celebrating by binge watching African-American themed documentaries. So far I've watched : Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Mandela, Toni Morrison, Huey P. Newton.
{{{{Moriah!!}}} so happy to "see" you! I was just thinking earlier today when I was posting songs where is Moriah! I will join you in the documentary watching tomorrow, if not tonight. I was about done posting but now that you're here these next ones are for you!
I played for a while until I left for the Air Force in my uncle's dance band , dad was our drummer , cousin played bass guitar. It was cool money for a teenager. I think we had an old mechanical reverb which for dance music for weddings and anniversary parties was almost never used. We had a South American connection so during dinner at weddings we played Sambas , Boleros, Bosso Nova.... for dancing of course Foxtrots, Tangos, Cha Chas, 1950's rock and roll, waltzes and OMFG polkas for the old people..it was early to mid 1960's I spent a little time visiting friends in that area and New Orleans when I was stationed in Biloxi. I also went often to the French Quarter that still had Pete Fountains place ( was a tourist trap) and neet tourist bars such as Pat O'Briens and beer dive joints such as Your Father's Mustache. But it was best to go off onto Ponchartrain Blvd or Ave and get a little away from the tourist traps.
It is amazing how many Americans don't know American history. That is why so many troops got brainwashed by the commies during the Korean War. The dumb talking heads on tv don't have a clue and they keep repeating the lie about slavery ending on this date. It is so pathetic.
What pisses me off, and maybe others, is that so many Americans are ignorant about American history. Black American Independence Day should be celebrated on December 6, when slavery offically ended in the entire country (December 6, 1865). Blacks did not become American citizens until July 9, 1868. IMO, either one of those days would make a better holiday than Juneteenth, which has no real significance.
It has no real significance to you. If you look at the first video on this thread the woman mentions that the slaves were freed in Texas by the Union Army. It is a historical fact that the Emancipation Proclamation pertained to the slaves under Confederate authority and that ratification of the 13th Amendment was the official end of slavery in the entire country but June 19th was a momentous occasion. I'm all for historical accuracy but the facts around the emancipation date are being accurately presented on this thread. No one on the thread has said that all of the slaves were freed on Juneteenth but people can celebrate what they want and I don't see any point in getting upset about it.
I took a “History of Jazz” class in college. That’s what we were taught. Wish I remembered more of the details but I’m glad I took the class. It made me learn to appreciate music styles I previously had no interest in. When you start to appreciate the style for its history and uniqueness, you eventually learn to enjoy the music itself. That’s my experience anyway.
could be back then the white people were paid enough to be able to afford to take a day off, blacks not so much, just guessing.. or more were the essential workers, kinda like today's world during this crisis
The point in getting upset about it is to make it about themselves and distract from the day itself. Black people decided to celebrate something very important and some white people just can't accept that. Thus you have people demanding the date be changed for no other reason than to make themselves central to the discussion. Follow any discussion on race, racism & related issues & you see the same thing again & again - white folks who feel the need to shift the focus to themselves, or at the very least away from the issue. Any time a thread on such an issue starts you can just begin he countdown.
Yep out in Meterie or down Airline Highway too. Too bad what has happened in New Orleans. Love the music styles you mentioned.
