Does white privilege really exist?

I can attest to that being untrue. I've seen it hundreds of times.

 

No you haven't. I know exactly how it works and it's how I described above. No way can there be any racial descrimination except in your mind. If someone's debt to income ratio is too high, credit score isn't high enough, job history, etc doesn't meet the criteria, they will not be approved, no matter what race the are.

No, actually I didn't. I stated mandatory guidelines and how approvals and denials work. There is nothing to disagree with. It is fact.

If the actions of the individual are wrong that does indicate the system is wrong. Systematic racism was legal, it’s not and has not been for a very long time. If some knuckleheads are basing loan approvals on race they are at fault not the system. I would guess some loan officers of all creeds and colors are guilty of it still though.

My mom was a loan officers for years in Houston, in the 1980s she dealt with a lot of middle eastern men who treated her like crap because they did not want to deal with a woman in business. She messed with more than a few of their loans

The last five years I have gotten two car loans and a mortgage. All over the phone or computer. Never met anyone in person. Even signed documents and sent those via the computer.

 

There is nothing to disapprove of. I've stated facts and you don't like it because it doesn't fit your "everything is racist" agenda. Almost as bad as when we learned that National Parks were racist because of the trees and trees reminded black people of hanging. That was the explanation of why fewer black people visit national parks.

I believe white privilege does exist in some places and some situations. I do not believe it is something that is universal in white majority countries. I think I've experienced white privilege while living overseas, although much of that could have just been exotic foreigner privilege. I've also experienced the other side of the coin, such as racial profiling and being discriminated against because of it, so I have a lot of empathy for minorities of all backgrounds who've experienced that in this country.

 

Thank you for sharing and your honesty. It's nice to know there are others that don't bury their heads to other people's plights. We've all faced discrimination in some form or the other. It's a secondary pain to have others outright deny the existence of something real.

 

Or when Spielberg was filming his slavery scene in Amistad as would not let allow whites to put the fake bounds on black actors before the scenes so as to not cause them stress. Was he afraid they would unwilling channel their ancestors? It’s a insult to the actors playing slaves, to assume they are that weak willed they can’t deal with something that simple. It’s a prop....

 

He was trying to be culturally sensitive, I imagine. It might have been better served to simply ask them if it would be a problem or not. Much of the division, especially in race relations, is that people won't talk to one another.

I agree, from the story I read it was Spielberg who made that call for all the actors. The white guilt effect, same reason people kiss other peoples feet.

 

As a white man I have the privilege of shopping without being tailed by the store security and treated like a potential thief everywhere I go. I have a friend who worked in a restaurant in N.C. Being a good liberal he quit when a party of 6 black patrons were told to leave because of Covid-19 restrictions while at the same time a white party of nine was seated with no problem. Most of the rest of the staff also quit on the spot. I'm not sure how much their actions had to do with social justice and how much with the flaunting of social distancing rules at the owner's pleasure.

 

I remember when he got some backlash for "The Color Purple" because the people were dressed in really nice clothing. Purists were upset saying that black people didn't have matching suits and coordinated dresses, shoes, etc. Really? It's a movie, not a documentary. Much of this could be resolved if people would stop thinking tv/movies are "real life".

Further, we claim to be CIVILIZED, but, won't openly talk to one another. It's not about who is right and who is wrong. There are varying degrees of that on ALL sides. What can we do NOW, as a people, to combat this division? We are the UNITED states of America. Let's let that mean something other than plots of connected land.
