The County Sheriff is yet another check built in to the system to allow The People to avoid the tyranny of Mob Rule Democracy by faraway and disconnected urban centers.

The attempt to equate not mandating masks with opposition to wearing masks is "TOTALLY childish." No one is being prevented from wearing masks.

 

So Inslee thinks that he has more power than he actually has?

 

Nah. He learned precisely the limits of his power in 2018. Now he's just doing w/e is popular in Seattle and Olympia.

 

What happened in 2018?

 

3/4 of WA county Sheriffs declared refusal to enforce I-1639, a gun control bill that Seattle imposed on the rest of the state with its overwhelming population advantage.

 

Try applying that to speed limits or any other legal requirement that is present in order to protect others.

 

The law upgraded background checks for semiautomatic rifles, raised the minimum age for such weapons to 21 and added penalties for unsafe storage.

In other words, it affected almost nobody and was opposed for NO justification other than making it a political issue.

It was purely a political maneuver that represented nothing but the partisan divide between the right wing, small town desert east and south west logging communities and the major population centers that have a SERIOUSLY legitimate concern about lethal weapons.

Having fun killing prarrie dogs is one thing, I guess. Whatever.

Within the cities, prarrie dogs are not the prey, and weapons used in crimes are coming from guns that are stolen from those who exhibt zero interest in security.

But why would a sheriff know squat about people being killed when there is partisan BS opportunity.

25,000 reported cases of human poop on the streets...how many people call in to report poop? So we can safely assume the real poop count is what 50,000, 75,000 a 100,000?

True - this virus isn't going to go away.

The idea is to use public health methods to keep it under control until vaccines and better treatments become available.

Europe is doing a good job of that. China is too, but their tactics aren't acceptable.

The situationis far worse than simply that this virus will continue to survive, mutate, etc.

The Wuhan lab group includes searching out SARS iruses that bats carry.

Their research shows that there are LARGE numbers of SARS variants carried by bats. Those variants just haven't moved into the human population.

Wuhan is studying how these viruses move to the human population - what virus mutations are required, what characteristis of humans help deter that ransmission, etc.

The same issues apply to the pandemics that have come from the ME and Africa.

 

Vaccines? We don’t even have a consensus that a human contracting and recovering from covid is immune from catching it again. If that isn’t happening, there will be no vaccine.

First, we don't know for sure if it comes from bat-spit. That is one direction in which scientists are thinking and indeed, I find it very possible. But wearing masks is not there to affect bats, or not. You are totally missing the point.

Second, what we do know is that if you rob the virus of the possibility of infecting human hosts, then there, in the area where it finds no new hosts, it dies on surfaces and on the air within days.

Third, since the wearing of masks drastically reduces transmission, then the wearing of said masks contributes greatly to robbing the virus of new hosts to infect.

It's really a very simple, cost-effective and plain old effective way to stem the tide of any airborn virus. Only full-idiots would fight against wearing masks in the middle of a pandemic. Our soldiers wore those masks in WWI (and in some places, in WWII). Americans were willing to wear masks for a while in 1918 until they got tired of it in some corners, and that's when the second wave hit and killed millions.

So, end-answer: it doesn't ****ing matter "if the source is still alive". It does matter that we block transmission to/at our end. Lordy, using your warped logic, scientists should never tried to get us into space because geewhiz, we can't kill the sun's radiation at the source..... but lookie, lookie, they were smart enough to build shielding to BLOCK TRANSMISSION of said deadly rays from the sun to inside their space-ships. Wow, what a novel idea....

Why don't you try to be a thinking adult instead of a grumbling adult? Who knows, you may even like it.

I have dear friends from Parkersburg, WV, a state that is red as red gets. They are big Trumpers, but I forgive them for it and still love them all the same. One big difference: they (then entire family, from grandpa down to the little ones) are wearing masks, because they are smart enough to know that this is a medical issue, not a political issue.

That's a bad comparison. It would be akin to banning people from breathing. What we're being asked to do is wear a mask and keep some distance, akin to wearing a seat belt and following speed limits.
