Goldman Sachs did the math and a national mask mandate to slow the spread of coronavirus would save

A team of economists lead by Jan Hatzius, chief economist at Goldman, makes the case that a national face-mask mandate could partially substitute for renewed lockdowns, as COVID-19 inflections flare up in a number of southern and western states in the U.S., that would “otherwise subtract 5% from gross domestic product.” (See attached chart):

This is Goldman Sachs saying if there was a national plan to encourage masks it would help the US GDP by a $trillion. Yet Trump still refuses. Is his goal as many bankruptcies as possible because there's money to be made from them? Something more neferious? His administration is seeking the supreme court's aid in ending Obama care at a time it's most needed. Having had covid-19 can be considered a pre-existing condition to raise premiums because there may be long term problems
He doesn't listen to science will he listen to Goldman Sachs?

    No.

What is national plan to encourage mask wearing anyways? Trump wearing one? I know the lefties think that he is some type of idol and that if he does everyone will fall into line. That’s incredibly untrue and simplistic ideology. Unless you advocate a national mandate then there is little to nothing he can do regarding masks. And no sane person would advocate a national mandate.

    WEARING A MASK - PROS
    • Reduces the rate of infections.
    • Saves lives.
    • Sets an example for others, inspires personal responsibility.
    • Helps to preserve the economy via limiting the need for shutdowns and COVID related spending.
    • Strengthens the country against a foreign plague.
    • Protects your family and your community.
    • Serves God through serving your fellow man.

    WEARING A MASK - CONS

    • You get to fap yourself silly over an ignorant, arrogant, and selfish sense of "muh rights" and "muh freedoms" believing yourself to be metaphorically storming the beaches of Normandy as you crusade against a "tyranny" when in reality you're simply being asked to practice what you preach with regards to safeguarding America.

If I may simplify. And BTW, I hate having to wear a mask but do it just to try to keep everyone else well.

    WEARING A MASK - PROS
Your a considerate human being looking out for not only yourself but the people around you

    WEARING A MASK - CONS

Your a self absorbed, narcissistic POS who would do everyone else a big favor by staying home until a vaccine is produced or 'herd' immunity takes over.

Don't you want the economy to remain open?

Don't you think wearing a mask would be a small price to pay?

What do you think will happen in Florida, Texas, Arizona, if the daily new cases double again? Quadruple? My view: Even the most hardened covid and mask deniers will take notice and either wear a mask or stay at home.

Unfortunately, encourage won't work. Too many self-absorbed, 'I'm the center of the universe' a.holes out there.

AND the government should provide these free of charge to those who cannot afford them.

I never wanted the economy to close.

As the new numbers are proving this was overblown from day one. Infection rates up to 25x times higher than thought, hospitals were not over run. Thus the hyper freak out about that was never a true threat.

Infection rates up to 25x higher than thought, thus death rate very low, i.e. the lethal aspect of this vastly overblown.

Mistakes that were made, can’t be reversed now. But can we learn from them and not make them again?

Meanwhile the layoffs are starting again..

There would have to be some medical exceptions but I would hope people with an exception would limit possible exposure to or from others. Ie, if they kill a family member that's on them, just don't kill one of mine.

Not at all you want national mandates over a .26% mortality rate.

IF that what it takes to settle everyone down and get things moving again, then yes. BTW, I would hate this but I'm willing to give a little for society as a whole.

No one is forcing you to get within 6 feet of anyone not wearing a mask. Your reference to god in interesting. If god existed, we wouldn't need masks!

Can you guys just wear the damn masks? I promise you its not "defiance against Trump". I'm still voting for him and wear mine all the time when in public or in a store! If you do happen to idolize Trump, this might be one thing you shouldn't follow him on. He's tested frequently and has access to doctors at the snap of a finger, most people don't! 6 feet is NOT enough if someone sneezes. This is a microscopic, invisible killer and should be taken seriously!
