  1. Every two years

  2. Every four years

  3. LESS than every two years

Yeah, so then I can't make sense of why a state would allow gun carry but not knife.

@TOG 6, perhaps you have some insight into this. (Post directly above this one.)

I have it absolutely correct that some leftists in the Ann Arbor area openly wanted cops dead, and approved of across the counter sales. (You may recall John Sinclair's bunch for just one clown show of commies. If not, know this. Some very dangerous socialists and racists live in Michigan, including Louis Farrakhan and his ranch on the state's southwest side...formerly owned by Al Capone sideman Louis Campagna, if that matters.)

Teflon coating penetrates ballistic vests. I often heard gun-grabbing leftists say they'd love nothing more than strip weapons rights away from all gun owners...except theirs. They have often whined about "Murica" owning too many bundles of trespassers' joy.

Giving up guns is as lame and unlikely to happen as Biden escaping becoming totally unable to function.

It is written into the Heller, McDonald and Caetano rulings by the united state supreme court.

    Correct.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZO.html

    Held:
    1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Pp. 2–53.

I'm not seeing a definition of "firearm" in that. "Firearms commonly used for traditionally legal purposes" on the other hand IS defining "firearm."

    It IS the law.

    1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

    (f) None of the Court’s precedents forecloses the Court’s interpretation. Neither United States v. Cruikshank, 92 U. S. 542 , nor Presser v. Illinois, 116 U. S. 252 , refutes the individual-rights interpretation. United States v. Miller, 307 U. S. 174 , does not limit the right to keep and bear arms to militia purposes, but rather limits the type of weapon to which the right applies to those used by the militia, i.e., those in common use for lawful purposes

At the time of our founding as a nation, people had jobs, and a life. Dedicating two years of public service was deemed a sacrifice or personal time. Back then, citizens were not going into politics as a career. Being a US House member was not a career choice, there was no money to be made by being elected to Congress.

Now, between the opulent pensions, high pay, and translating a Congressional seat into lucrative job as a lobbyist, people get filthy rich after being elected to the US House of Representatives.

So is there a list of "those in common use for lawful purposes?"

    In essence.

    https://www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/07-290.ZO.html

Some have made the argument, bordering on the frivolous, that only those arms in existence in the 18th century are protected by the Second Amendment . We do not interpret constitutional rights that way. Just as the First Amendment protects modern forms of communications, e.g., Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union, 521 U. S. 844, 849 (1997) , and the Fourth Amendment applies to modern forms of search, e.g., Kyllo v. United States, 533 U. S. 27, 35–36 (2001) , the Second Amendment extends, prima facie,to all instruments that constitute bearable arms, even those that were not in existence at the time of the founding.

To one who is interested in honesty, the above would mean the second amendment covers every firearm that is available for ownership on the private market. But politicians are never interested in honesty, so they continue to ignore such in favor of their own biased, dishonest opinions on the subject, and will continue fighting for as long as possible to force others to live as they see fit, no matter how wrong or illegal their positions may be.

    Does there need to be?
Are handguns in common use for legal purposes?
Yes - the cases revolved around it.

Are rifles in common use for legal purposes?
Are shotguns in common use for legal purposes?
Are shoulder-fired SAMs in common use for legal purposes?
Are grenade launcher in common use for legal purposes?
Are LAW/ATGMs in common use for legal purposes?

Firsthand anecdotal. I put up with similar garbage a lot from A-squared people moving my way to escape high home prices. And speaking of escape, the corrected sentence below should hopefully correct a hasty draft.

Giving up guns is as lame an idea and as unlikely to happen as Biden NOT becoming totally unable to function.

I assume that it was a long time ago though.

Wouldn't a better draft still be, as unlikely to happen as Biden becoming able to function?

Well probably not, but I would expect that rifles and shotguns would be included in the Second Amendment! I would be STUNNED if you argue that they're not!

Don't some people argue that guns which are NOT available for ownership on the private market - due to government business restrictions - is an infringement on the right to bear arms?

Sounds to me like the pay rise is the biggest factor! Why the hell did it go up?

Yes, but for example, fully automatics are banned aren't they?

Congress decides and votes on their own pay, though a current congress can change pay only for future congresses, and the president has to sign. Why did it go up? Because it seemed like a good idea to congress to pay themselves more in a completely bipartisan manner.

No, they are not banned outright although very highly restricted through extensive federal licensing and approval requirements, which SCOTUS has agreed is constitutional. There is considerable disagreement with that ruling, however. This gets a little back to the main thrust of your OP because it points out how congress passing laws is slowly getting eroded by 9 men and women appointed for life and wearing black robes now declaring the law of the land in some cases. This is addressed by one of the most important amendments, IMO, proposed in the Convention of the States movement, and that is the authority of the states, with some restrictions, to overturn SCOTUS rulings with a 3/5 vote of the states' legislatures.

Custom accessories that turn a semi-automatic into the equivalent of an automatic, like bump stocks, are legal although that is changing in the states since the Las Vegas shooting. It is anybody's guess but I don't think things like bump stocks would fall under 2nd amendment rights.
