Would it not be better if that burden were not on the small businessmen?

The soldiers were British, not Canadian.

When the United Empire Loyalists left the United States and moved to Canada, the British gave every immigrant family food and provisions they required to set up a farm. But they only provided one gun for every five families. The last thing they wanted was a Canadian army.

The employee also gets a credit for the portion of wages used to pay for health insurance.

The idea that being able to keep more of what you earned is 'welfare' is one of those bizarre convoluted attempt at saying a person doesn't deserve what they earn and pay for.

Yes, the Democrat answer to everything is more government and more taxes. No thanks.

Middle-class Americans such as myself don't want or need to be subsidized. What we want are Republicans and Democrats to come together and figure out how to do all the things government-run have never done and will never do - reduce costs, expand options, and leave me in control of my own HC/HI. As it is, the federal government can't even run the VA HC system and keep its existing HC programs afloat. Giving it more power, control and responsibility is the worst idea ever.

This is nonsense. Most Americans have no desire to see healthcare providers to get rich.
    Government can raise taxes.

I've failed to go through all of the comments but I would like to make sure that everyone is made aware that if Trump does eliminate Obamacare then all of the millions of people who contract Covid-19 risk their insurance becoming impossible because there are unknown long term health effects putting them into the pre-existing category. How will that affect their employability as well if hiring them means higher premiums for their employer.
This comes at a really really bad time.

It is a welfare, yes it is a stupid welfare because you have to work to deserve that welfare.
That way corporations can keep their employers as slaves.
Slavery is what United States is based on.

If you are not subsidized you don't have a health care. NO ONE can afford to pay for health care out of pocket anywhere in the world.
That is very simple concept that Americans cannot understand unfortunately.

It does not matter whether they are rare.
The fear to use the system discourage people from accessing Health care, so they delay treatment and get sicker.
That is why all health care indicators are very low comparing to other developed nations.

They never speak out against the system that creates artificial deficit of health care resources.

This American paid for his health care out of pocket for 18 years, and it would have been MUCH less expensive for me to continue to do so for the next 20 years rather than pay for health insurance.

So much for your phony little concept...

Yes indeed! The concern in Canada is that the best and brightest will gravitate toward private clinics, leaving govt hospitals with the dregs. Silly, really. But the idea that everyone should get the same care is behind it. You will find private specialty hospitals, like the hernia clinic Rand Paul went to.

They pay less because they have a single payer that negotiates. The US pays more because they have insurance companies and hospitals paying who pass on the cost to the insured. Insurance companies and hospitals owned by big pharma and vice versa. It's win win for them.

Of course it does and people do not have to wait or get denied by government here. And comparisons with other countries are apples and oranges and usually using specious criteria like life expectancy. We have one of if not the most advanced healthcare in the world.

I believe you need to actually reread the definition of slavery, and while you are at it, welfare.

Just for S&G, if one chooses not to work because they deem it slavery, then how do they feed, clothe and shelter them and their families?

In Canada, you get basic healthcare free. Do you think people will continue paying premiums for private care if we do the same?
So, forgetting what you want, are Republicans prepared to subsidize care for lower- and middle-income or not? If they aren't, there is no deal Democrats are prepared to support.
    Do you really think this...

... is a "mistake?" It's deliberate ripping off of the public. Both parties are on the take from health insurers, drug companies, doctors, etc.
Who is going to stop the ripoff if not the government?

Indirectly, they do. Obamacare helped create record profits for the industry and most people appear to support. It doesn't seem to matter that Americans are fatter and sicker.

But the payer doesn't get more for themselves in profits like in the US system
