When did Fauci say masks “didn’t do squat”?

He said didn't say that verbatim but in an interview given February 14th with Spectrum News DC “There is no reason for anyone right now in the United States, with regard to coronavirus, to wear a mask.”

Then again told 60 Minutes, March 8, “There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask,” Fauci told 60 Minutes on CBS, “when you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is. And, often, there are unintended consequences—people keep fiddling with the mask and they keep touching their face.”

Said because at that point in early March, the CDC recommended conserving face masks, which were in short supply, for health care workers and those who had COVID-19 and were showing symptoms. So, Fauci gave an answer that was in line with CDC recommendations at that time.
I don’t see what the big deal is with wearing one. Yeah, it’s annoying but if it can help mitigate spreading in any way then so be it.

You didn't ask why Fauci said it, you asked when...just answered your question

Also, he went on to name the consequences of wearing a mask, do those consequences suddenly not exist?

But he didn’t actually say they were useless which you even admitted to.
People fiddle with their face regardless of a mask. He didn’t say fiddling with the mask would be far worse than not wearing one.

He said "There is NO REASON to be walking around with a mask...." and went on to say it doesn't offer the protection people think it does, it wasn't JUST fiddling with the mask and touching your face.

I took my family out to eat and there were a dozen people in the entryway and not a single mask.

Right, because of the need to conserve masks for health care workers at that time. Context is everything. Clearly they think it offers some protection otherwise why would health care workers wear them?

That was one reason, but here is the clip you seem to be ignoring the other parts...

The last part of him saying health care workers need them. Why would they need them if they don’t work???

One, they are trained in how to wear a mask properly whereas most people do not wear them properly or use proper mask hygiene. Also, the main mask type was N95's as they are the most effective and there was a shortage of those masks. Btw healthcare workers wear masks and several still got the virus!

Nice deflection by the way, why can't you just admit he said it? Lol I acknowledged he said that about healthcare workers, why can't you acknowledge the other parts of the clip? He friggin said it...

I did admit he said it but the context was in regards to saving masks for health care workers. If they don’t work why is Abbott making masks mandatory?

Good question! I am wondering that myself...if masks are so effective why lockdown? Why stand 6 ft apart? We could ask these questions all day...

And no it wasn't just in the context of healthcare workers it was in addition to that statement, but you're entitled to your interpretation even if its wrong.. ;)

Why lockdown? Because apparently there are too many ignorant aholes who won’t wear one.
The bottom line is that since April the CDC has recommended that everyone wear cloth masks in public to help slow the spread of COVID-19. That recommendation changed because of studies that found even people without coronavirus symptoms, but who may still have the disease, could transmit the virus through close interactions with others, especially through speaking, coughing, and sneezing.
Fauci also clarified in a June interview that masks are helpful “… but it’s masks plus physical separation.” This is in line with the CDC guideline that, “The cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing.”

Lol...ya that's why we're locking down...okay. Just because people aren't wearing their masks, you really buy that crap?

Yet Fauci even said it may protect from a droplet, however when one sneezes or coughs the droplets become aerosolized into tiny particles. A cloth mask is 10,000 nanometers while Covid-19 is 100 nanometers. 100 viral particles can get into just a single pore of a cloth mask. Not to mention even if one consistently wears a mask, if they are not utilizing it properly and using proper hygiene it's hazardous to the wearers overall health. According to OSHA surgical and cloth masks are not actual PPE, they do protect against LARGE droplets yes but not small ones that are aerosolized. People put too much faith in masks...

Wow such a contradiction from his 60 Minutes interview, no wonder people are confused by the conflicting information of our "experts."

Buy that crap? Um no. That was my own opinion :D

Well sure...there are clearly lots of morons who struggle with wearing a mask correctly. That can’t be helped. But clearly wearing one gives an amount of protection that not wearing one doesn’t. You may be confused by the experts but many of us aren’t confused at all.

I think the experts themselves are confused, but glad you got it figured out for us! :applause:;)

Then that kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it?

Hey, you're entitled to your opinion...even if it's wrong ;):D
