Possessing a weapon doesn't put anyone's life in danger. Open carry wouldn't be legal if that were true. He was running off because he was drunk and didn't want to be arrested. He asked the cops to let him walk to his sister's house, which was a few blocks away. A third grader could figure it out. Let him go, and meet him at his sister's.
You don't get to shoot somebody because a drunk manhandled two cops and grabbed a taser. Get new cops. Stronger ones and smarter ones. Life and death situations require a level of expertise, and in this case, normal male physical ability.

Safe from being shot? Yes, I do want that. Safe from prosecution? Of course not. If you're dumb enough to run, you deserve the weight the extra charges will bring. We don't execute people for resisting. We try them in a court of law.

It sounds like "Mom" doesn't have a general principle then, just a personal opinion on this specific case that is being spun up in to something deeper and more meaningful.

So much 20-20 hindsight from those who have never walked a mile in a cop's shoes. I still say Mom was right, it was all the actions Brooks took that put him in the grave. Yep, he brought it on himself. Lots of advice for the cops so I got several for any future Brooks out there -- don't drive drunk, don't fall asleep in a business' drive-thru, don't resist being cuffed when you fail a breathalyzer test, don't hit a cop, when alone don't start a fight with 2 people, don't take a cop's taser, don't run from a cop, don't fire a taser at a cop. Best advice of all -- never take a taser to a gun fight.

The actions taken by Brooks should have put him in jail, not the grave.

Two things will happen when this police officer is found not guilty

    1. His life will still be ruined and he will be unemployable
    2. Atlanta and other cities will have major rioting/looting/burning issues

The person was a career criminals who already demonstrated that he was not opposed to violence.
You expect a cop to be able to win in a fight against all comers? Get real.
He was safe from being shot until he chose to violently resist.

Shudda, wouldda, couldda. Here's my reply to you and the others who tell cops how to do their jobs while setting in your La-Z-Boys -- there is an old saying that goes like this, "Too bad we were not given our neighbor's kids because they are the only ones we know how to raise".

Not even their twenty twenty hindsight makes any sense.

You was a career criminal. He has already demonstrated his willingness to be violent and they want him to just be able to run away with a potentially deadly weapon.

How do you figure? He couldnt have TRIED HARDER to get shot. What does it take for a justified police shooting? 1 dead cop? 2? What would have happened if he had hit the officer with the taser and got his gun? We'd likely have 2 dead cops and a suspect at large. Luckily the officer shot the piece of human garbage wife beater and child abuser before he could kill them. Good riddance.

What are you trying to say? That cops are free to behave as they wish?

I expect the same professionalism from police as I do a surgeon. If a surgeon amputates the wrong limb, I don't give a damn whose kid he is. Same with cops. If two cops can't deescalate such a situation, they aren't qualified. This wasn't a gangland shooting. It was a hungry drunk who fell asleep. Let's keep things in perspective here.

Lmao. Kill them with a taser while running away drunk. That's quite a fantasy you got going there. Get real.

Why in the hell would someone who asked to be allowed to walk to his sister's house want to kill two cops? Come down to earth, please.

Stop with the potentially deadly weapon nonsense. It was a taser. What was he gonna do? Use it on his sister?

Point a weapon at the police and get shot. End of story.

Which the state of Georgia classifies as a deadly weapon.

The police allow a taser to be used on them. They are healthy young people just standing there. They are not people with heart problems or other problems which might result in their death. In addition, they are just standing there. They are not doing something which could get them killed if they are immobilized with a taser.

The prosecuting attorney said a taser was a deadly weapon a couple of years ago. Now he claims it is not a deadly weapon. I guess it is only a deadly weapon when a policeman uses it, but not when someone else uses it.

Not sure what your point is. You seem to be supporting my point; that cops are healthy, and their lives aren't endangered by a taser.

Death by taser is so rare as to exclude it from being deadly in general discussion.

That's a legal classification, because it can kill. That doesn't mean it poses the same threat as a firearm. And that is key in this case.

It doesn't matter how the state classifies weapons. What matters is imminent threat of life or limb to the cops or others. Arguing that Brooks presented a threat will be hard to justify.

As he was shooting at officers. Hes dead because of his own actions. He made bad choices and got rewarded with a dirt nap.

Stupid question. But you do seem to be saying Brooks was free to do as he wished.
The cops were professional, did you see the video? Check who started the fight.
I can tell you have never been attacked. By the way 2 bullets deesculated the situation. Tough for the criminal Brooks. But he won't be attacking any cops, or anyone else ever again.
Boy did you leave out a lot of perspective. You seem to be saying a hungry drunk fell asleep and then a cop shot him in the back. That's like saying Jeffry Dahmer should not have been sent to prison because he was just hungry. You do remember Dahmer killed, cooked, and ate innocent people? You should take 101 on fact finding. Ever hear of "the big picture"? Well it applies to the Brooks case.

    Let see.

The DA previously said it was a deadly weapon

The state of Georgia says it is a deadly weapon.

I can kill people with pre-existing conditions or children

It can result in the death of someone who happens to be doling something which could result in death, if capacitated, like driving.

It could have resulted in the death of the policeman if he had became incapacitated and he took away his gun and used it on the policeman. A real possibility since he had already demonstrated a willingness to be violent.

The policeman was supposed to sort all of this through his mind in a second or less and came to the same conclusion as someone who thought about it for several days and still got it wrong.

It was a taser. If it were a firearm he took, shoot him on the spot. He was fleeing with a taser. He didn't threaten anyone. He was escaping...to his sister's house. He shouldn't have died.

So brooks just gets to walk away with what Georgia considers a deadly weapon after drunk driving, resisting arrest and assaulting police? Dream on. Your argument is laughable.
