I wrote this for Christians only, which should be obvious.
    Circular reasoning?
    Yeah sure it is.
    Well no. Not really.
    Why not?
Because we Bible believing Christians are already convinced that the Bible
is the word of God and we're not looking for arguments to support our
    faith beliefs.

    Note to atheists:
Atheists know a lot about the Bible.
They really do. I know it.
Here below are 16 Bible verses that many Christians have marked in their
Bibles. You can learn something here.
Plus you can post some "astute snide unfriendly hostile" remarks
    if you want to.
    I won't mind.
    Enjoy.

    Says Mr. Rong-Rong-Wrong Jr:

“The Bible is not the word of God but the words of men who claim they
were inspired by God to write the Biblical books.”____Mr. Rong-Rong Wrong Jr.

That up there is False, Mr. Rong-Rong Wrong Jr.
The Bible is the word of God.
Here below are some Bible verses that teach that the Bible is the word of God.

    1 Peter 1:23-25
"For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable,
through the living and enduring word of God. For, “All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the
flowers fall, but the word of the LORD endures forever.” And this is the
word that was preached to you."

JAG Note: Here Peter says that the word that was preached to his listeners
{and perhaps readers} was the word of the LORD.

    _______________

    1 Thessalonians 2:13
"And we also thank God continually because, when you received the
word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human
word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in
    you who believe."

JAG Note: This is a clear and bold affirmation from the Apostle Paul that
the message of the Apostles is the word of God.

    __________

    2 Peter 3:16
"He {Paul} writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these
matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand,
which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures,
    to their own destruction."

JAG Note: Here Peter seems to be thinking of Paul's writings as also being
the Holy "Scriptures." And now we KNOW that they are.

    ___________

    Acts 17:11
"Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than
those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with
great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to
see if what Paul said was true."

JAG Note: The writer of Acts views the Scriptures as having
authority to settle questions about doctrinal issues.

    ____________

    Colossians 3:16
"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach
and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms,
hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude
    in your hearts."

JAG Note: The “message of Christ” is found in God’s word the
Bible and especially found in the New testament.

    __________

    Hebrews 4:12
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged
    sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow;
it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."

    ________

    Isaiah 55:11
"So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."

    ________

    John 5:39-40
"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have
eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse
to come to me to have life."

JAG Note: Here the Lord Jesus says that the Old Testament Scriptures testify
    about Him.

    ___________

    John 17:17
"Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth."

    ___________

    Luke 11:28
"He replied, Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

    ________

    Luke 24:44-49
"He said to them, This is what I told you while I was still with you:
Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law
of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms. Then he opened their
minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them,
This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the
dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins
will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my
Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed
    with power from on high."

    JAG Note:
{1} The Lord Jesus here presents the Scriptures as having authority.
{2} Also notice "the forgiveness of sins will preached in his name to all nations"
So? So you can connect Luke 24:44-49 with the Lord Jesus' Great Commission
in Matthew 28:16-20 "go and make disciples of all nations"

    ___________

    Matthew 4: 4
"Jesus answered, It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

JAG Note: See the whole passage Matthew 4:1 -11 for 2
more references to "it is written" that is, written in the Holy Scriptures.
    _______

    Revelation 1: 1- 3
"The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his
servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending
his angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw—that
is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. Blessed is the one
who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who
hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."

    _______

    Romans 10:17
"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and
the message is heard through the word of Christ."

    ________

    James 1: 22-25
"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.
Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not
do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a
mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately
forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the
perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting
what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what
    they do."

    ________

    2 Timothy 3:14-17
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have
become convinced of, because you know those from whom
you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy
Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work."

    JAG Note:
Note the particulars from 2 Timothy 3:14-17
{1} Timothy knew the Scriptures when he was young
    {2} the Scriptures were Holy
{3} they were able to make Timothy wise
    {4} wise for salvation
{5} salvation through faith in Christ Jesus
    {6} the Scriptures are God-breathed
    {7} all of them are God-breathed {not just some of them}
{8} the Scriptures are useful for:
    ~ teaching
    ~ rebuking
    ~ correcting
    ~ training in righteousness
    {9} so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped {100%}
    {10} for every good work {not just some good work}

    ___________

    Also consider these:
    * Job 23:12 "I have treasured the words of His mouth"
    * John 1:1 {The Living Word speaks God’s word}
    * Mathew 1:1-11 {Jesus used the Holy Scriptures to resist Satan.}
    * Psalm 12:6 "the words of the Lord are flawless"

    Note to Christians:
Can you think of other Bible verses to add to the above?
    If so, please post them
Can you think of a theological point that would add to this subject.
If so, please post that point.
Your effort might be a blessing to some future reader.
    Many thanks.

If god exists then he would inspire man to write down what is true and good.

If man could observe the golden rule it would change the world for the better.

But only a small percentage live by that golden rule.

    * Thanks for your comments.
    * Yah. If men lived by the Golden Rule we wouldn't even need locks
    on our doors.
    * True, not many do.

Just curious...why would an ALL-KNOWING, ALL-LOVING god write (via mortal men) a book that cannot be accurately interpreted? Wouldn't he (her, it) KNOW that people would struggle with the language and transcription?

Which means you have presented 16 circular arguments.

X is true because of Y.
Y is true because of X.

The Bible is the Word of God because God tells us it is... in the Bible.
All newspapers are true because this mornings' paper reported it is true.

Word? What do you mean by the "word" of God?
And.... more to the point which Bible is the "word" of god as there have been so many Bibles written and printed over the years in so many languages with so many inconsistencies and spelling mistakes so which Bible is The Bible from which one can actually derive the Word of God?

Rimmer: I never agreed with my parents’ religion but I wouldn’t dream of knocking it.
    Lister: What were they?
Rimmer: Seventh Day Advent Hoppists. They believed that every Sunday should be spent hopping. They would hop to church, hop through the service and hop back home again.
Lister: What’s the idea behind that then?
Rimmer: Well, they took the Bible literally. Adam and Eve, the snake and the apple, everything. Took it word for word. Unfortunately their version had a misprint. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13, where it says “faith, hop and charity, and the greatest of these is hop.” So that’s what they did every seventh day. I tell you, Sunday lunchtimes were a nightmare. Hopping around the table serving soup. We all had to wear sou’esters and asbestos underwear.

Bet you start with them first.
Oh yes here we go! No doubt within a few posts you will be moaning about how nasty atheists are!
And now for the falsehoods, you have no idea if the Bible is the word of god, if it is then he is a strange god but never mind you, still make false claims as if they are the truth.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him. 1

Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not
believe stands condemned already because they have not believed
in the name of God’s one and only Son.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the
light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by
the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that
what they have done has been done in the sight of God."

    * I use the New International Version { NIV }.
    * The NIV is considered to be an excellent translation
of the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

    Start quote.
The New International Version (NIV) is an English translation of the
Bible first published in 1978 by Biblica (formerly the International Bible
    Society
). The NIV was published to meet the need for a modern
translation done by Bible scholars using the earliest, highest quality
manuscripts available. Of equal importance was that the Bible be
expressed in broadly understood modern English.

A team of 15 biblical scholars, representing a variety of denominations,
worked from the oldest copies of reliable texts, variously written in
Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Each section was subjected to multiple
translations and revisions, and those assessed in detail to produce the
best option. Everyday Bible readers were used to provide feedback on
ease of understanding and comprehensibility. Finally, plans were made
to continue revision of the Bible as new discoveries were made and as
changes in the use of the English language occurred.

The NIV is published by Zondervan in the United States and Hodder
& Stoughton in the UK. The NIV was updated in 1984 and 2011,[3]
and has become one of the most popular and best selling modern
    translations.

    End quote.

The Lord Jesus Raises Lazarus from The dead:

"Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb.

It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.
“Take away the stone, ”he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man,
“by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been
    there four days.”

Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,
you will see the glory of God?”

So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up
and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.

I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the
benefit of the people standing here, that they may
    believe that you sent me.”

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice,
“Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his
hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a
    cloth around his face.

Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and
    let him go.”

    * The Bible is not hard to interpret.
    * Not if you know its very simple goals.
    * Ask this: What does the Bible seek to do?
    * Here below are the short answers:
{1} Save you from eternal Death.
    {2} Give you Eternal Life
{3} Tell you how to live while you wait for Eternal Life

Isn't that enough clarity for you?
When you have {1}, {2}, and {3} up there you have got it ALL.
What more would you want to know?
There is no need to make the Bible complicated.
You can, if you want to, use your Free Will to choose
    to "keep it simple."

    ____________

    Some further explanations:

    * The Bible was written to show you the way to Eternal Life.
~ You must be born again John 3:3
~ You must accept the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior. John 3:16
~ Doing this gives you Eternal Life. "He that believes on Me shall
never die"___The Lord Jesus John 11:26

The Bible CAN and DOES succeed in explaining to you clearly how
you can escape eternal Death and have Eternal Life.
This alone is more than enough clarity with regard to
    Biblical interpretation.

    * The Bible was written to show you how to live your life
AFTER you accept the Lord Jesus as your Savior.
You allow the Holy Spirit to produce His works
in your life, which works are as follows:
    ~ love
    ~ joy
    ~ peace
    ~ patience
    ~ kindness
    ~ goodness
    ~ faithfulness
    ~ gentleness
    ~ self-control
    {Galatians 5:22-23)

Those 9 qualities up there are all you need to live a good life
here on Earth while you wait for Eternal Life.

This is not complicated: "For God so loved the world that He
gave His one and only Son that whoever believes on Him
shall not perish, but have Eternal Life." John 3:16
    {1} perish
    or
    {2} Eternal Life

    Choose either {1) or {2}

    _____________

    Conclusion:
    Long Live Simplicity ~ ~ ~
    Repeat:
    * The Bible is not hard to interpret.
    * Not if you know its very simple goals.
    * Ask this: What does the Bible seek to do?
    * Here below are the short answers:
{1} Save you from eternal Death.
    {2} Give you Eternal Life
{3} Tell you how to live while you wait for Eternal Life

The bible isn't complicated or hard to intepret, it's contradictory.

Further, if Christians believe in eternal life, why don't they believe in ghosts?
    ____________

So, if I understand you correctly, people that know nothing about Christianity because they cannot be "born again" or accept the Lord as their savior?

There wouldn't be so many denominations if that was accurate.

A person doesn't need a list of things in order to do the right thing. I know plenty of non-believers that life that way.

Nobody living knows what happens after death.

    _____________

The Bible was written by men and it is clearly open to different interpretations because denominations cherry pick the verses they believe in. Again, that's why there are so many denominations.

Christians theologians work to resolve apparent contradictions.
Many instance of alleged contradictions have been resolved.

Eternal Life has to do with what happens to your soul after
you die. On Christian doctrine the soul does not return to
Earth as a "ghost" -- so "ghosts" are not an issue for
    Christians.

The Apostle Paul was clear that the unsaved man cannot
    understand spiritual truths.
On Christianity here is how it works:
{1} Step one is desire to become a Christian.
{2} Step two is to ask God to help you become a Christian.
The Bible teaches that you do not have the power to
do this in your own strength.
{3} Step three is to pray the Sinner's Prayer:
    _____________________________________________
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for
Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose
from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come
into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my
Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen.
    _____________________________________________
{4} Step four is to then live your life to please the Lord.
The Bible teaches that God will help you do this
But you live to please the Lord AFTER you become a
Christian. This means we do good works not to be
saved, rather we do good worlds because we ARE
    already saved.

The number of denominations are not really important.
Christians disagree on many points of doctrine, but we
    agree on these three
~ How to be saved from eternal Death.
~ How to have Eternal Life
~ How to live here on Earth while you wait for Eternal Life

    Sure.
    You are correct.
Unbelievers can and do have what could be called a "secular
moral code" -- but that does not address or solve the problem
of eternal Death. You can live a "good moral life" and still NOT
have Eternal Life. In order to have Eternal Life you have to have
a Savior, the Lord Jesus. John 3:16

You cannot possibly know that to be true.
You have no way to know that.
The Bible says that we CAN know.
    _______

The only way that any man can know what happens
after Death is to read the Bible and believe what it
    says:
"Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal
    life.___The Lord Jesus John 6:47

So goes the propaganda for the faith. The first two are very unnecessary. The third one is substantial, except for the part about waiting for Eternal Life.

I believe we are more than our physical bodies. Fortunately, the Bible is not the only available "handbook" available to address such concerns. Other sources existed long before a conquering tribe claimed to be the first and only one to have a hot line to God. That tribe's dialog was subsequently hijacked by those who couldn't come up with anything better than a religious philosophy that turned John Barleycorn into a sanctified crucifiction.

Thorough indoctrination of the propaganda gives one an immense sense of security and conviction to the supposed validity of its tenets and principles. Hypnotism has the same kind of strength.

That doesn't make it any less absurd when viewed from outside the fold.

I will make the following observation:
There are a significant number of activist thread atheists that
choose to regularly criticize the God-That-Does-Not-Exist.
I knew one on a Christian Forum that had over 55,000
posts attacking the God-That-Does-Not-Exist. He regularly
remarked that he was "thankful for his rational mind."
    _____________

My view is that God has written His image on the hearts
and minds of men and no matter how hard they try, they
can never erase that image. But many DO try. And they try
with determination. Romans chapter 1 says that men
"suppress the truth" about what can "be known about
God" and that God has "made it plain to them"
through what has been made -- the Earth and Heavens.
    Romans 1:18-20

    Thanks for your comments.
I understand your point of view.

    Based on your comments:
    * there isn't anything to discuss
    * the case is closed
    * the Christian makes a post
    * Gelecski comes in and mocks and ridicules it.
    That's okay. Not a problem.
Its just that your approach leaves nothing to discuss.
Thanks again for your "interest" in the thread.

My first question was not clear. It should have been "So, if I understand you correctly, people that know nothing about Christianity because they cannot be "born again" or accept the Lord as their savior, are doomed to Eternal hell?

My point is there are many other works that were not included in the Bible. Further, if it's the "Word of God" why should/would there be contradictions in the first place?

My point is what is the point in having "Eternal Life". You are just stuck somewhere you consider to be heaven?

Once again, Christianity is not the "one TRUE gospel". There are variations on that theme all over the world. How do you know YOUR god is better than somebody else's god?

What is the point of Eternal life? Have you ever considered the idea that Christianity is just a form of societal control? For instance, let's say somebody shoots and kills somebody. Without religion, it would probably lead to retaliation. With Christianity, people are told to "forgive and forget" and "It won't be like that in heaven" and other such nonsense. There would be total chaos (heck, there is ALREADY total chaos) if people didn't believe that some higher being would take all their pain away and even the score in some imaginary afterlife.

So, to my first question...A person that has never been exposed to Christanity is basically doomed to Eternal death? That doesn't sound like a loving god at all.

    _______

You cannot possibly know your position to be true either.

I've read the Bible. I've read various versions of the Christian bible and about other religion's doctrines. I have also studied religion and volunteered in a prison ministry outreach program. I've also attended probably a hundred churches and they all believe their god is better than everybody else's god and one only need to believe and things will be okay. Well, things aren't okay.

We hear about tragedies daily (even before the internet) and ALL of those affected cannot possible have just been "wrong" about their god, if any. Christians love to ignore all the atrocities to keep the lie going that one need only have faith. No, people need food, shelter, clean water, security, protection and a host of other things that have nothing to do with faith. I have seen more back-biting, sexual abuse, affairs and theft in churches than I ever saw while a police officer. It's disgusting. And, you are probably come back with the favorite go-to - "those weren't TRUE Christians". Yes, they are and they hide behind their bibles to rationalize how they treat others.

    Hebrew, Aramaic...?
Most of the Bible is the Old Testament so did those guys also go back and get the originals of that as well and translate that to?
If they did then why did they make the Old Testament god a bad tempered old git raining fire and brimstone and the new one a cuddly bunny God?
    Which is the real God;
Door No 1 - Old git god
Door No 2 - Snuggles the bunny god

so....they didn't have the originals....they had copies of copies of someone's idea of what was said to someone who may or may not have been with God? Based on the fact that 95% of the people were illiterate back in the day, who actually would have written them down and when and why?

    * Thanks for your comments.
    * I read your post carefully.
    * Its clear that you are locked-down on your anti-Christian position.
    * Its clear that you are not open to anything pro-Christian.
    * There is a complete absence in your posts of any investigative tones.
    * Its clear that your mind is locked down against Christianity.
    * I am convinced that anything I post will be immediately rejected by you.
    * Therefore its pointless to continue given your approach to "discussion."
