    Unofficially retired engineer
    Cigar smoker
    Health problems; Chronic bronchitis

Since the re-openings; I’ve opted out of several large social/leisure gatherings, both local and out of town, thus, am I scared and/or being too cautious? A little bit of both.

Current hobbies/activities; Lots to do around the farm, such as; horse riding, 4 wheeling trails, gardening, repairs, landscaping, cooking/catering to small groups, horseshoe tournaments, etc.....still an active/healthy lifestyle.

Prior to Covid19; Mainly, a whole lot of traveling, and I was blowing thousands of dollars all over the world, no regrets. Honestly, I don’t miss my pre-Covid19 life, and several of my buddies feel the same way.

You could have had all that without CoVid.

I think we still go back to normal :)

Same here. Still running my company, 65 in 11 days. Mask and faceshield at work. Freedom at the farm, lots of gardening, forest work, water hauling. Won a 3 month battle for one of my dogs leg, double break, splint cast came of today, big smile on my face, no more horse riding ( three day eventing ) for me, concassed out, still have 5, just, used to be in the 20s.
Stay away from people as much as possible and enjoy my beautiful farm.

    Live is good.

    3 dogs, 2 pigs and a Bier.

Looks like the young metropolitan people
got tired/bored of watching Animal Kingdom, thus, perhaps one of the reasons why we have a Covid19 cases spike.

Good for you! That's awesome. It's nice to read a post about someone being grateful for what they have.

That by escaping the rat race that had been his former life, he had become more happy.

If we were to isolate everyone on a deserted island for 3 months, and then, back to the real world, most people’s lifestyle/spending habits would significantly change, however, not good for the economy.

    OR,

Go back living like the Walton’s, materialism would significantly decrease, thus, not good for the economy.

Thus, what percentage of of our economy has long been sustained due to overspending?

That’s true, but still fully in the control of the individual regardless of pandemic status. I think we have all had moments of reflection on pre pandemic things and thoughts about changing them. I’m just in favor of fully getting back to normal and making bad choices or not based with CoVid not being a factor is all. :)

I will still go to concerts and drink too much :)

It is so satifying to grow things, used the extra time, we shortened the hours from 14 to 10 and back to 12 on Monday
After having to quit Eventing I had suddenly so much time, when I got over the misserable side effects of TBI, I turned to gardening. I had the time, was not any more spending 6 month on the road and 7 hours of training and trying to keep my company going, 16 hour days, 7, 365.
Was a ton of fun, for sure.
But when something forces you to quit the rat race, a bright and whole new world opens up. Its a lot of fun, to slow down, sit back, relax and do something new, without the rat race.
Corona gave me 4 more hours a day and I very much like it, I keep those 4 hours, by all means.
So much to do and to discover, aqua ponics, hydro ponics, developed a method which allows me to grow fruit trees in near desert conditions, trained my pigs so they follow me around the farm like my dogs.
    What a rich live.

should have spent it on a nice XC-buggy, hihihihihihi. I still learned plowing, seeding and harvesting with a team and naturally drive a harvest wagon, with 2 cold blood and 2 tb/warmblood mares.
Never regret any fun you had.

One upside was the boardwalk was closed in Mission Beach and it was so much more peaceful during the lockdown. Now it's a zoo.

7 years ago, I inherited a 4th generation family farm, last appraised at $1.8M, and I promised my late Mom “I will never sell it”. However, on paper, $1.8M equates to an easy low interest $250K line of credit....I DIDN’T REALLY NEED

In other words, in the last 7 years, a little bit of wealth derailed me from a simple life.

It would be extremely stupid to do so. Weare in the most severe drought conditions possible. A forest ant having a hot fart would cause a fire storm. We had already over 40 wildfires.
2 years ago over 200.000 acres burned in my county and we were on evacuation orders.

Fireworks under those conditions are just for idiots.

It is not about wealth or being wealthy, it is about when things you have no control over, change your perspective of live

Big Pharma and certain bureaucrats are very much enjoying it.

Who would have thought that one day making masks could become a lucrative business?

I was 'stuck' on a small island for 3 months. In the beginning, the idea that I could not leave was a little unsettling. If something happened to a family member far away, I could do nothing. We were under strict lockdowns in the beginning and it felt very oppressive. And then, I let go of all the angst. I took advantage of the time and helped my husband 'build' things. Shutters, an outdoor shower. I learned a lot! And we both made a conscious effort to laugh a lot and not criticize eachother/use harsh words/get frustrated with eachother. Yes, I overate. But I did so, for the first time in my life, without guilt. And I let the grey grow in. I emerged a new person. Inside and out. I'm grateful for the imposed isolation. And I'm happy to hear that you, @nopartisanbull and others, were in the position to do the same! Here's to getting older and appreciating ourselves and our lives!

That seems to have only happened in America. Young metropolitan people in other countries like ours seem to be doing their part.
